in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> we begin at 11:00 o'clock with developing news. intense search is underway after a young woman is grabbed off philadelphia street and shoved into a car and we have late breaking details on this case. good evening, thanks for being with us tonight. i'm chris may. i'm jessica dean. >> there is now a $10,000 reward offered in the search for carlesha gaither. police have launch add full scale investigation into the abduction on west colter street in germantown. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco talked tonight with her family. >> let my daughter go. whatever it takes, i don't care. just let her go. >> bring her back safely that's all we just want her to come back safely report roar distraught family has no idea where 22 year old carlesha gaither is. >> why her? and who could do such a thing.

>> reporter: what's more concerning is surveillance video of her abduction sunday night. you can see a man wrestling carlesha to his car as she puts up a fight. struggling for nearly a block, carlesha was walking home from a family party just before 10:00 when police say the man approached her. >> it was sickening much that's the only thing you can say. it looks like that he -- even knew she was coming around that corner he park his car then back for her. >> when they got in the back of the car you heard like a tap, tap, pat, pat. whatever it was like two of them and then a back window came out. report roar the back passenger side window was smashed or kick out and the car drove off. eyewitness who doesn't want to show his face called 911. he had been walking the opposite side of the street when he heard her scream. >> help me, help me! i turned around even just started running up here. i call the cops as, you know, as i'm like screaming stop, stop, stop! he's dragging her to the car. >> reporter: he says her abductor had a large 95 left on the ground with carlesha's cell phone and glasses.

>> we going to pray for her to get the will, the strength and the courage to fight her way o out. >> reporter: based on what you saw here she is a fighter. the man in this video is described at about 5-foot 10, 25 to 30 years old with a dark complexion, last seen wearing dark colored clothing. the car he was driving is described as a 2,000 to 2002 dark colored ford taurus it may be metallic color with pennsylvania plates both of the back windows are shattered. we're live outside northwest detectives tonight, i'm diana rocco cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> we'll keep following this closely. diana, thank you very much. there is breaking news right now. gunfire rings out and a wmca is put on lock down. chaos unfolded outside the brandywine ymca on hurley road. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live tonight with late breaking requests and what we know is deadly shooting. todd. >> reporter: chris, tonight we learned that victim here was a

fitness instructor at this ymca and she was also the mother of two children. you can still see behind me here at this hour still very much remains an active crime seen here tonight in chester county. about 40 kids and parents huddled inside the y after the shots were fired. terrified and panicked lifeguards stood in front of the windows to protect the crowd. >> we kept all families back in the corner away from all the windows towards the door. >> reporter: the shooting happened outside in the parking lot at brandywine ymca was placed on lock down investigators say a man who had a relationship with the mom shot and killed her here around 6:00 o'clock monday evening. then when police arrived to the y off hurley road the man then shot and killed himself. a co-worker says the woman was a mother of a 17 and 10 year old. >> one of the sweetest and most caring people you will ever meet in your whole life. she was very motherly to everybody. >> rt roar nervous parents waited for about an hour until the lock down was lifted. the area was then declared safe

knowledge one else was hurt. >> i called my daughter and she didn't want to talk about it because she was in daycare, child care. >> right. >> she wanted to stay calm for the kids. and i told her to text me and she -- she told me it was -- someone had shot the instructor after shooting someone else. >> we talk at the da about the details of the shooting. >> very clear that the individual who did this, the male, had planned what he was going to do. the exact details of what he did we are not releasing yet. but this was not anything that this woman ever would have seen coming. >> reporter: the identities of the mom and the shooter haven't been released. police do say that this was a clear murder suicide and domestic situation. reporting live tonight in west brandywine, chester county, todd quinones cbs-3 "eyewitness new news". >> todd, thank you. new reaction tonight from a friend of a radnor high school senior accused of threatening to

kill a teacher and her classmates. that girl is under going a mental evaluation after what police say they found written in her school notebook. >> it's a little unsettling to be honest. you hope that no one would be capable of doing this especially when you know someone like this. >> reporter: reaction tonight from someone who knew the student now accused of plotting a violent attack at her high school. >> i've had classes with her before. very nice girl. whenever -- i never had a bad conversation with her personal personally. authorities be trade portrayed a different side earlier money. >> i could be the first female school shooter. >> radnor police read allowed words came from a 70 year old senior's notebook filled with vivid descriptions of violence. >> i'm homicide al and fine with that. >> we would be remiss if we did not take these types of threats seriously based on the history of violence in our school system throughout the country. according to police a teacher notice noticed the writs monday morning. officers removed the student from school and immediately took her to the radnor police department. they also searched her home but found no weapons.

while police said students were never in immediate danger, there was still concern from them and their parents. >> the biggest thing to me this kid did not have access to a gun in her home. that was something i really wanted to know much it's very sad. sad for the girl and it's just sad. police tell us the suspect who will be charged as a juvenile also wrote a letter to the parent one of the columbin shooters dylan kleebold. it's unclear if that letter was ever mailed. >> developing right now, chopper three over a shooting near the campus of delaware state university in dover. a male student was shot at an off campus residence hall called the living and learning commons about half mile north of campus. the university did go into lock down shortly after the shooting. that was around 4:00 p.m. that lock down was lived just a couple of hours ago. the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. >> new tonight an urgent warning for parents. after police say a razor blade was found in a piece of halloween candy in vineland.

parents who visited homes on south spring road lincoln avenue and pennsylvania avenue are urged to take a closer look at their candy. on saturday, we told you a razor played was found inside a candy bar collected halloween night in the area of woodlawn drive and walnut lane in towamenson township. police have yet to make any arrests in either case. >> new information tonight. new jersey state police hope a $1,500 reward will lead them to the hit-and-run driver who killed 25 year old chelsea burns as she walked along al away road in piles township last month. police talk to driver of a second vehicle that hit burns but did not file charges against that driver. investigators say it was the first impact that killed her. ♪ >> we are live for you tonight once again in "eyewitness news" election central because just hours from now, the polls will be open. in pennsylvania, it's all about

the race for governor, ton night both candidates were out on the stump trying to get those last minute votes. natasha brown reports on the last minute push. >> reporter: both candidates for pennsylvania governor chris crossing the state at a frenzied pace rallying their supporters both ending their day in the western part of the state at rallies in pittsburgh. >> i believe tomorrow night when you guys come around, whenever the final totals come in, that i'm going to be the victor we'll have a second term. >> i'm not cocky. i'm not getting complacent. i'm working really hard. i'll be working all through the election tomorrow. >> the final hours before election day, governor tom corbett made a stop in west chester, pennsylvania, reminding voters why he deserves four more years in office. portraying his democratic challenger tom wolf as a candidate set on raising taxes on the middle class. >> can be summed up in one word, taxes. >> reporter: wolf is quick fire back from this rally in lancaster monday afternoon. attacking corbett on cuts to

education and a lack of job creation throughout the state. >> this is about education, it's about jobs, it's about fairness. >> reporter: candidates wrapped up their campaigns having started on one side of the state and ended on another hundreds of miles traveled, no time to waste. while recent polls show corbett still trailing by double digits the gap has narrowed and left to voter that is decide. governor corbett will be awaiting the election results here in pittsburgh. meantime tom wolf does remain ahead in the polls, but both candidates say, polls don't vote. people do. that's why voter turnout will be key. in pittsburgh, natasha brown, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> that is just one of many races that youly will be deciding tomorrow and we encourage to you get out and vote. the polls do open early. let's shot when you they'll be open. if you were in new jersey, the polls will open for you at 6:00 o'clock tomorrow morning. they'll stay open until 8:00 o'clock tomorrow night. in both pennsylvania and delaware the polling hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. "eyewitness news" will have

at 1776 feet it's the tallest building in america and many argue the safest. the stairwells are pressure arrived surrounded by concrete and large enough to accommodate three people at once. $4 billion tower has separate stairwell for first responders. >> you kind of go what am i doing here. >> as you get through the site and you understand the security process you can see plenty of security here. >> very exciting. very historic. coming back to this sight after all that happened i think it's great. >> the building is 60% rented right now. when it is full the developers he have mate 10 no 15,000 people will likely work there. quick thinking during a scare at a daycare. when a daycare owner saved this little girl's live and it's ms. something we all need to know. plus. >> i tomorrow first supporter the story and we're still on it. >> the world is a sadder place without my mom. >> police say a driver who was high on drugs killed her.

suffered a seizure due to high fever. after a few minutes of chest compressions and rescue breathes she started breathing on her own. >> it's like ride ago bike. you go into the mowings of your training at the time when it's needed. >> jersey law does require licensed daycare centers to have two staff members certified in both first aid and cpr. the davis holland learning center says all its staff is trained. >> on the health watch tonight, some surprising new research about shift work and how it may be hurting your health. new study found that those who perform shift work had lower scores on memory, processing speed and overall brain power. that study suggests that health monitoring is important for those who perform shift work for more than a decade. researchers also found that it's possible to recover that cognitive ability at least five years after you stop shift work. well there's some potential trouble tonight for honda. federal regulators are

investigating whether to car company failed to report deaths and injuries in its vehicles. the national highway traffic safety administration says that honda may have failed to report incidents related to faulty air bags as well as other defective parts. honda could face up to $35 million in fines if nhtsa finds it failed to report those incidents. police say a driver who was high on drugs killed a beloved mother and wife. the victim's family thought she'd escaped justice and would never go to jail until now. it's a story we first told you about back in may and the i-team is still on it. here's investigative reporter charlotte huffman with the dramatic new developments and a family that's demanding justice. >> reporter: shaken non, anything to say to us today. >> no comment. >> reporter: shannon, was back in court last week something the smith family never thought they'd see again it all started nearly three years ago on a day that would end like this. she was driving in pemberton

township in february 2012. police reports say she was we have beening in and out her lane and crossed the center line slamming head on into this car. inside, 81 year old betsy smith. >> blood tests showed she was high on prescription painkille painkillers. charged with aggravated manslaughter, she faced up to 30 years behind bars. >> but the case didn't get far. earlier this year burlington county judge terrence cook throughout any evidence that she was on drugs because after the crash, rile she was in and out of consciousness, a police officer went into her purse for her driver's license to try to identify her. that's when he saw pill bottles and requested a blood test. but judge cook ruled the officer needed a search warrant to go into her purse. the drug evidence was out. it was a decision that paved the way for the woman to walk free. >> what did he say? what?

that's about -- that's about as clear as you can get is you've got to be kidding. >> reporter: the smiths were shocked and prosecutors appeal appealed. >> good morning. you can all be seated. >> reporter: i-team followed the case to the state appelate court. last month unanimous decision the judge's reverted the lower court ruling saying the evidence is admissible because the way the officer acted was entirely residential and did he not need a search warrant. >> we both i think breathe add sigh of relief that the world wasn't as crazy as it had been made out. >> this i think will vindicate the fact that you can't do irresponsible things that end in a tragedy for somebody and just, you know, pass it off. >> reporter: now she finds herself back in court and looking at a possible prison sentence. >> if convicted you could go to prison -- no comment, please, guys. no comment. >> the smith family is hoping to see justice soon but it may take awhile. her attorney is now appealing

cbsphilly.com/watchers. outside in our center city studios we have a partly cloudy sky. if you saw anything in the sky at about six, 7:00 o'clock night a flash of light perhaps, you may have seen a meteor or a fire ball which is a very bright meteor. take look at this map i have for you it may just look like spaghetti thrown down or pixie sticks. what it actually is is a 197 reports of meteors in the sky throughout the southeast and extended toward the mid we have. new jersey is right here. pennsylvania is right there and all of these blue stick figures are reports ground reports of meteors. where you see the red lines that is the direction that the meteor was traveling in. so we may have seen it here in philadelphia. i know chopper three was reporting some bright flashes in the sky around 6:00 p.m. so you weren't crazy. you actually saw a meteor. on storm scan3 you can see the clouds rolling in from the west. some overcast is building. this is all associated with a warm front a leading edge of

milder air that will boost those temperatures towards 70 degrees tomorrow. right now not so bad. 54 in philadelphia. 48 in wilmington. 50 in the poconos. 54 right now in reading. not much of a range in temperature with clouds rolling in from the west. pittsburgh sitting at 48 degrees. high pressure to the south brings in the warmth ahead of this cold front. temperatures well into the 60s for tomorrow. beautiful day to be outside. this cold front approaches from the west. squeezes the warmth off the coastal plain still a very pleasant day wednesday with temperatures at least in the mid to upper 60s. but the clouds will invade. then we'll watch this front it's going to be slow to move in and slow to move out with this air of low pressure traveling along it bringing periods of rain on thursday. our future weather has really good grip on this bring the rain in early in the morning on thursday. some patches of rain for the morning commute then it really begins to hit us pretty hard in the afternoon into the evening. and the wind will be kicking up as well. overnight, no issues. partly cloudy, seasonal the low 45. starting with a chill when you
