a lot of people waking up to a pes in their neighborhoods after last night's strong storms. we have team coverage for you of the damage and the problems still out there this morning, check in with katie for a look what we can expect. at least it's calm >> it's calmer. calmer. this storm was huge. erika. we're going to need time for this to, sort of transition back to we're done completely. that's going to take awhile. flerms of presip, that, i think you can safely say we're basically done with because we're going to be lingering shower here and there. so you're not going to be dealing with flooding rain, certainly no more thunderstorms, we're starting things off by taking you outside to the live neighborhood network. i'm going to go broad headsville. you can actually see it because you got street lamps there overlook pleasant valley middle high school but the temperature, 52 degrees up near the poconos right now. it is so mild, start the day off. as we're still technically waiting for the cold air to sort of take over. this storm again it's huge. i got to zoom you out to show

portions of canada to show you. it's still starting to make the retreat in terms of the cold front. you got a lot of heavy snow falling in the great lakes, no snow here by the way but the wind that is left behind as we await the departure of this storm. that's still no joke. in the meehan, spotty shower, admitting the area of radar right now especially back to the northwest berks county, lehigh valley for example. here's a look at wind gusts. you don't see an observation in every town because ntas necessarily reporting anything yet but up and down i95 easily seeing gusts into the 20 and at the airport, you're at 32 miles per hour. now, travel this morning, i give you the red light for at least the morning commute because there will still be puddles out there, debris, even if it's a couple of branches off the trees. you're going to find that the wind continues. it's still, give you that caution light this afternoon but by tonight despite the wind, it is going to be basically dried out and we're going to stay that

way at least for the time being. now, looking at our area temperatures here, we expect these temperatures to start gradually declining, we've actually already hit our daytime high, by the way, so with the colder air taking over these temperatures do start to drop off. expect that to take place, and also sunshine as we eventually move forward in this forecast. with that said, it is still an active day for us, meisha, norm of the wind across the area. >> it certainly is, we're seeing a lot of our cameras shots moving left to right being blown around and we're seeing damp roadways, certainly not all dry and we have flooding to talk about two. this morning, let's get to it. 95 northbound in bucks county, you can terms of traffic, looking pretty good. breaking the 5:00 hour now, it's a thursday, a lot of people know that the storm went through, clearly a lot of people might hold off until things are looking pretty good. traffic level volume levels looking good. what we are seeing is how wet and damp certain things are looking. not so much pooling on your

main. you're not going to see to. you're going to see pooling on side streets, pushed off to the shoulders, under the bridges, all of that. careful around those areas especially when we get up to more of the suburbs and that's where we're going to get the branches and all of that route 1 southbound pa avenue looking good but again you can see that shine letting you know all the roadways are still damp. the good news is dampness in and of itself isn't going to cause us you too many problems. it's where we start to not pay attention and go over to the shoulder lines and that's where we get the pooling. 202 southbound in king of prussia looking good. again, just looking wet and damp flooding in new jersey be right 130 at 47 all lanes are blocked here. you will have to use an alternate, 295 is your best bet. erika back over to you. it's a symbol of the power of mother nature right there, a storm powerful enough to knock down a sign under that burger king in lawncrest. this morning, crews are pulling all nighters trying to get power back to everyone who lost it. peco has more than 9700 outages,

p seand g more than 2900, atlantic city electric more than 48 people in the dark and delmarva waiting for the power to go back on. the storm cast quite a punch that lancaster county. where some people believe a tornado touched down. pretty severe jan, good morning. >> that's right. the national weather service plans to send a crew out to the hardest hit areas of lancaster county this morning to determine if it was indeed a tornado that caused the damage there. overnight, this was a very strong storm. take a look at the video. wednesday night storm's caused a number of buildings to collapse for off roofs-downed trees and cut off power for thousands in eastern lancaster county alone. that was the hardest hit area. a tornado warning for that part of the county was issued overnight. emergency crews focused on it areas near samples berry paradise and white horse. that was also particularly hard hit. a school house and a barn

suffered major damage there and in some of the video you can see school supplies even students's desks just around area in the damage. now the storm left a trail of debris and also flooded some streets and eyewitness to some of this severe damage, severe weather believes it was a tornado that caused all the damage you see. >> a lot of wind whipping. we could see gaps from our basement door, and we seen all the power go out, and ours started flickering on and off and it was off and we knew something wasn't good. we heard, you know, you hear stuff tossing and turning, and we heard debris and stuff like that. but i mean, this is just like not even real. >> reporter: fortunately there are no reported injuries. however, emergency crews are still going to check damaged buildings this morning. again, the national weather service will go out to the hardest hit areas of lancaster county to determine if this was, indeed, a tornado that caused all of this damage.

erika, back to you. >> thank you now, there are also quite a few clean-up jobs closer to home including downed trees and branches, one of that he is places is abington, that's where justin finch joins us with the damage there. justin? >> reporter: erika, good morning, we're here on meeting house road near greenwood avenue. as you can see the shut down behind barrier is closed all the way down to fox chase, where a freeh tree fell. crews moments ago got the tree cleaned up. the area is still closed awaiting peco crews to do some restoration work. less show you what else this storm did do last night we have multiple reports of downed trees and branches across our area, this is if cheltenham where this tree fell on to a house about 9:00 last night. this is near new 2nd street and east church road. two people were inside the home at the time and none were injured. there is, of course, though heavy structural damage and they will see just how severe that damage was later on today. let's move you over to lawncrest

here. that's where a strong wind gust blew down this burger king sign along rising sun avenue. it was a scare for workers and customers who were inside. sp feared that sign would actually cut through roof of the establishment there. the night storm with this lightening and rain and strong winds also did not several people's powers off line and that is being restored across our area this morning. now, back here, live here, there will be debris in roads as you travel out this morning, lots of branches, trash cans and other debris. be mindful of that. we saw lots of ponding, heavy rain came down and still evaporateing and moving off in some areas look out for that as well. erika back over to you >> thank you now, before the storm moved into pennsylvania, it left behind devastation in the south. a tornado hit waverly virginia kill three people, including a 2-year-old boy. they were found about 300 yards from their mobile home. another man died.

the news brought the two-day death toll from the storm to seven. investigators meanwhile want to know if mother nature played a role in this home collapse in trenton, it happened on eight hup block in south broad street. it comes if the trenton post facebook page. the front of that house you can collapsed into the street. fire officials evacuateded several nearby homes as a precaution, there were a injuries. also pictures right here from local emergency responders show last night's boat fire at a marina in ocean view seconds of dennis township cape may county. officials say eight boats if dry doc were damaged by that fire. ocean view and sea aisle city fire companies responded to the scene, they had fire under control after midnight. no injuries were reported.

officer during an argument. mccoy met with authorities tuesday night. he's confident the case will be resolved. >> we've consistently said we're confident that at the conclusion of this investigation, that the district attorney will charge whoever is responsible for this vicious beating. >> "eyewitness news" called mccoy's attorneys. they were not returned. police arrest a you ukrainian man for pretending to be a high school student in harrisburg and look at him. that's 23-year-old, he looks young; right? police say he used someone else's identity to enroll in high school in 2012. this year he was a senior with a perfect gp a and was a member of ro tc and the national honor society. all while pretending to be several year younger. according to police, he stayed in the country after his visa expired. check on our forecast. things are calmer this morning after last night's storm.

katie i think the warmth is -- you notice when you walk outside >> i would say so that, in tandem with fact that it is still blustery out here as well. it does feel decent outside. you can't get used to the warmth that is out here but at least things have essentially gun to dry out for us. we got hit hard yesterday in terms of rainfall amounts. we actually do have a if you record from philadelphia yesterday, let's go to that stat first and foremost. yesterday's rainfall in philadelphia at the airport where we get our official observation from. 1.91 inches, that did break the old record last set in 1979 for that day. meanwhile couple of our area rain amounts did awfully wet in potts town, just shy of two and a half inches, that's obviously led to flash flooding issues philly again 1.91, woods town shy of 1.8 and about one and a quarter in west chester hockessin over an inch as well. a lot of rain to go al with nasty storms. at the moment on stormscan 3 we

do still also have a couple of scattered showers, those are going to be lingering through the morning. it's too warm for anything but plain old rain. which is good. but when we start to zoom things out, this storm is still definitely bearing down across the northeastern united states. it's expansive, that's why we've going to be stuck with wind. we got to get this storm out before things can quiet down. let's look at temperatures as we move forward in this forecast you're going to notice something, temperatures usually gradually decline, colder air is going to start to settle in. we'll stay steady through the mid part of the afternoon. helping to warm things up once the sun goes back down, we do bottom out back into the 30's and couple of 20 will likely show up. throughout the course of the day be we're talking mid afternoon at 55. warmer than that right now but other than a lingering shower this morning, we are done with

rittenhouse street pooling water and flooding in new jersey, i'll have those updates coming up in about 15 minutes pennsylvania governor tom wolfe said his prostate cancer is treatable and will in the affect his job. he said he'll begin treatment in coming weeks and it will last a few months. wolf tells "eyewitness news" doctors found cancer during a routine checkup and that it should be a lesson for all men >> because i had the routine checkup, it was detected early and i can do something about it. i want to make sure that this is an example why routine checkups actually matter and make a difference. >> absolutely. now, wolf did not say what kind of treatment he's getting but he has ruled out chemotherapy. on your health watch, looks like the flu shot is doing it's job this year. health officials say flu season has been fairly mild so far, and that's because vaccine is almost 60 percent effective. that's a huge improvement from

people and cars, fire said it was pushed into a sewer by heavy rain caused the blast >> a problem with the cable core roads them. they replaced a lot of the cable. we don't have that problem much anymore. where it's older we do get a fire condition and the smoke billion dollars up carbon monoxide is what you see exploding and that's the pressure that blows the man whole into the air >> about 20 homes and businesses had to be evacuated and pseand gshut off power to the area and while crews investigated but the area is back to normal. a kentucky man is recovering from severe burns after an ecigarette explodes in his pocket. security cameras caught that exact moment the man's pants burst no flames. it happened while the victim was trying to pay for his snack at a convenience store. quick thinking cashier followed him out way fire extinguish. >> i was what was that? you have bomb in your pocket?

from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news" good morning. the big question, was it a tornado? the national weather service will be in lancaster county today taking a close look at all of that damage. power line storms destroyed several buildings including a school house. report of a barn collapse with animals trapped inside but the good news right now, there are no reports of any people or animals getting hurt. i know they will be out there trying to confirm if it was a tornado or not.l be out there we'll have what they will check off and see what it was. first look at the system. it's huge >> it still is huge. we're looking behind it last night what happened last night with that squall line. that's what we're going to start things off. you can see how things evolved there. that squall line was dangerous. look at that. this a
