>> go nova. >> hear the roar and feel the excitement, on nova nation, fans are on and off campus, reacting to the victory. and, while were you asleep this might have woke you up, strong storms quickly moving in and quickly move out, find out if mother nature is calming down, or has more on the way. today it is sunday april 3rd, good morning i'm's rahel solomon. we have to start with the wicked weather that left a path of destruction a cross the region overnight. lets take a look a lightening strike hit the courtyard marriott the hotel in bensalem. it happened after midnight on the 3200 block of turner drive. check out the damage to that hotel sign, fortunately the lightening did not cause a fire but fire officials tell us that the fourth floor did fill up with smoke and that knocked out power to the entire floor. hotel guests did have to wait inside the lobby until fire officials could give the all clear. and, severe weather knock out power to thousands, so lets take a lot the at numbers

in pennsylvania, peco has 39,000 customers, without power, with montgomery and chester counties reporting bulk of them. in new jersey ac electric has more than 4,000 customers without power, and atlantic and cumberland counties are most affect and pse and g tells us 500 resident are without power, now if your power is out you will want to contact your electric company, too to ensure that they are aware. you do not want to assume they know bit. what is ahead for rest of the the day. lets turn it over to justin drabick with eyewitness weather and what a night. >> that goes to show how strong this strong air mass is building n yesterday wasn't that warm. we made 60 degrees. it is that temperature difference that caused this storm. >> really coming with the bang. >> it will be windy through the rest of the morning and even into the the after noon. from last night's storms we have reports of hail covering the ground, trees down and we have temperatures, and similar down trees and power lines throughout the morning with the strong wind. outside right now it looks nice with the sunshine and a few patchy clouds but chilly,

38 degrees at the airport. northwest winds sustained at 29 but does feel like the mid 20's. we're talking about wind chill values this morning well below freezing, pretty impressive for early april. wind gusting near 50 in wilmington. mid 40's in mount pocono. 38 miles an hour in allentown. high wind warning, continues until noon time for the entire region. gusts potentially to 50 to 60 miles an hour throughout the morning. temperatures getting close to freezing now, reading and allentown mid 30's in wilmington. they are the wind chills. it feels like single digits a at mount pocono. nineteen in reading. twenty-three in wilmington delaware. a few passing flurries very possible this morning. otherwise partly sunny skies, temperatures running ten to 15 d high only 47 degrees, around philadelphia, and near the jersey shore, and only, stuck in the upper 30's up in the poconos. is there a brief warm upcoming at us for workweek but comes with the rain. ill a's let you know when we need this umbrella a back to you.

shot. we had end of shot clock shots, we just threw up and went in. >> we didn't expect this type of game. we thought it would go down the wire. when we're hitting shots we're tough team to beat. >> reporter: villanova shot 71 a if they can do that again monday night they will be celebrating their first national championship in 31 years. reporting from houston, leslie van arsdal for "eyewitness sports". as we told you earlier the wildcats will face north carolina, tomorrow night. the tar heels beat syracuse 83-66, now unc will be looking for its sixth championship, tenth time they have played in the championship game and this will be a rematch of the 2009 semi finals when north carolina beat the wildcats on their way to the national championship. hopefully, yes. nova nation is going wild, for the wildcats final four win.

>> the celebration began before the final buzzer even sounded and it continues for hours in the night. hundreds of students as you can see there spilling in the streets, screaming, people honking their horns, everybody just beaming with villanova pride. forces, no details on the other charges. well, villanova fans are probably still celebrating last night's victory, cherri gregg from our sister station kyw news radio 1060 is live this morning a at mineli's diner in wayne where diners are toes continuing the win with the very good breakfast this morning. >> reporter: good morning, rahel. very good breakfast. we're here, as you can see, is there a few people trickle in the diner here. not a lot of nova fans. they are probably still trying to recover from that crazy win but you this head line says it all, nova knock out and fans that i was able to catch this morning, were in delight. let look at highlights of last night's game and you can see why the cats, the cats dominated from the beginning. the fans were still biting their nails until after half time when nova got about 30 points ahead and one fan i spoke to said he went to bed

"eyewitness news". >> absolutely, and full faith for sure in the team. thank you very much. stay with "eyewitness news" as we follow wildcats run for ncaa championship our coverage continues on the air and on line, cbs philly.com. investigation is underway in the the death of the pedestrian, struck by a septa bus in montgomery county. it happened around 1:00 yesterday afternoon in glenside, police say the bus was turning on limekiln pike from glenside avenue when he hit victim while trying to cross the street. thirty-nine year-old edward hill senior was pronounced dead at the scene. authorities say the driver of the bus did have a green light at the time and is cooperating with the police. a camden man is under arrest in the fatal shooting of his mother, police say 22-year old pedro mercado shot iris sanchez. it happened friday afternoon on the home on the 1100 block of north 18th street. no word what led to the shooting.

also some large trees down. these are just some reports. we are seeing a lot of reports across the region in south jersey and delaware of strong wind gust was those storms. still, we will be dealing with windy conditions throughout the day-to-day, behind that cold front, sustain wind near 30 miles an hour this morning gusting to 60 potentially. that is why high wind warning is in effect until noon time today. afternoon it gets better. still wind which high win gusts up to 40 miles an hour and then tonight those wind do relax, sustained wind down around 15 miles an hour. so why all of the wind? well, we have last night's arctic cold front associated with low pressure start to energize, early this morning as it slowly moves off to the north and east and then we will have strong high pressure building from the south and west, that pressure difference, between the high and low that causes the strong wind. so we're right in the middle here so we're dealing with that west northwesterly wind flow and coming out of the canada ushering in colder air. thirty-eight at the airport. forty in millville. thirty-three allentown, reading and then colder to the

north and west. twenty-seven in cleveland. twenty-eight in chicago. brief cool down today, we're going to rapidly warm things up in the morning hours tomorrow. the here's why. we will deal with sunshine today, and just windy, cold, tonight, cloud start to increase ahead of the next storm system and then we will kick up wind out of the south tomorrow morning bringing in milder air and initially the morning is dry, maybe some light rain, possible for the morning ride up towards the lehigh valley and poconos. in the afternoon is best chance to see showers. we could linger in the early morning commute. by late evening that system is off shore and we will start to break clouds up again but we will see another surge of colder air building in behind that system. we're not talking about a whole lot of rain and it doesn't look like we will be dealing with thunderstorms as well but rainfall amounts around a quarter inch or less potentially with this next system. today's high mid 40's, maybe upper 40's in the warm spots with some sunshine and just stays windy. the tonight, we will initially drop down to the 30's but early tomorrow morning around sunrise those temperatures will start to rise and we are

approaching lower 60's. maybe mid 60's in the the far south jersey and delaware where we will see more sunshine and that last little bit longer in the morning during the rain moving in. today windy, chilly, temperatures ten to 15 degrees below average at 47 degrees. and then tonight still cold, 38, breezy at times, those wind sustained 15 to 20 abe the extended forecast around 60 tomorrow. watch out for afternoon showers, we are back to sunshine on tuesday but gets cold again with highs in the mid 40's and couple cold mornings ahead, temperatures in the 20's in the suburbs to freezing in the city. end of the week another storm brings showers thursday into friday and then chilly again next weekend highs only in the 40's, rahel, back to you. time is 7:18. lets see how traffic is moving with ann evans in the cbs-3 traffic center. folks have been treating me on twitter saying wind are crazy. >> it is very windy. there is a lot of debris on the highways especially on the highways and in the form of tree branches, fallen trees

and trash cans, so watch out for everything as you are driving today. this is ben franklin bridge. we have windy conditions, they are shaking our traffic cameras this morning but ben franklin bridge is in good shape. speaking of the debris is there a fallen tree in burlington township taking ben franklin bridge to 295 southbound between route 541, mount holly exit and mount holly willingboro exit. it is passable with care. an accident cleared in egg harbor township that involved a fallen tree in the parkway southbound, south of the great egg tolls and another down tree on delsea drive between goshen swinton road and beaver dam road and that whole area is closed because tree is just so big and right in the middle of the highway. also since we're not in the area but in charleston we have another fallen tree, cold stream road is shut down between charlestown road and kim berton road in chester county. it is in chester county but still you had should be mentioned. we have a no delays on

did you think they were going to win and once you awe them getting it underway. >> yesterday was very exciting. we were going to a friend's house to watch the game with a lot ofville 'nova graduates. so i knew it would be exciting and as the game went on we were all looking at each other saying this is unbelievable. this is incredible, incredible, all of the shot that went in. they played remarkably. it was a very exciting night. >> now mike over here you are not necessarily the biggest villanova fan but villanova by proxy. >> i was a fan last night. >> reporter: did you think they were going to win, were you biting your nails, what was the group going to do. >> they were going crazy last night a lot of things going on. have been excited. a lot of fun. >> reporter: turf ask, betsy i know you don't want to jinks this but what do you think will happen begins north carolina and what will you be to go during that game. >> i think the same group will
