shooting after philadelphia police officer are due back in court this morning. >> the officer is recovering at home after taking quick action that saved his life. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live at police headquarters with the latest on the investigation. jan? >> jim, brooke, good morning. that's right, both the alleged shooter and his accomplice are due in court to face a judge today, they are expected to be arraigned on a number of charges, including robbery, and attempted murder of that philadelphia police officer. >> officer mccullough hopped in a car home, the two year veteran of the force depart being thumbs-up not even 24 hours after being shot on the job. >> our offers remembers out there every day, protecting us, and showing the courage and resilience that we admire. >> his alleged shooter, 23 year old scott griffin, tracked to this west philadelphia neighborhood, earlier in the day. police say he was arrested without incident, but he was armed, possibly, with same gun

used to shoot officer mccullough. >> undercover narcotics officers actually saw him, they approached him, took him into custody, and he actually has a weapon on him. the shooter has a lengthy record, arrested 14 times. >> in fact, records show, given was arrested on multiple gun charges on march 16th. but was released just last tuesday after a judge cited a lack of evidence. the district attorney's office immediately refiled the charges. now, griffin, and his alleged accomplice, 20 year old sam ear, are behind bars. sam ear arrested sunday night shortly after the shooting. >> very happy to get him off the streets as quickly as we can. >> on sunday, police say, two men first robbed a man in the area of 59th and market street, and then tried to steel a woman's car. that's when officer mccullough and his partner stepped in. mccullough shot in the process. >> we just are happen that i officer mccullough will recover. and he's going to be okay. >> and top brass continue to

>> texas residents using whatever they can to escape devastating flooding, even a refrigerator. >> at least five people dead, torrential rainfall, and more on the way. more than foot of rain fell in the houston area, submerging entire neighborhoods, highways, shot g down schools. many are still without power. the governor has declared a state of emergency, in nine counties. >> a reporter covering texas flooding became part of the story. he waited until flood waters to help a man escape from a sinking car, you can see the man struggling to swim, as a reporter rushes to his aid. all while the reporter held on to his microphone, started end viewing the man, as he gasps

for breath. >> here is another dramatic rescue, dozens of horses, became trapped in high water near a houston stable. several volunteers leap into the water armed with ropes, boats, to help the horses reach dry land. i think that's amazing, i'm so glad they were able to help these animals. they're helpless, you no, ma'am, when something like this happens. >> and that's a pattern, isn't this a pattern that's going across the country, katy? >> essentially, basically what's happening here, we have this blocking mechanism in place, where we've had beautiful weather for days, days, days, poor folks across the deep south, i mean being look what they've been dealing with, 24-hour loop, the casino every rain that's pushed through here; just incredible, and that video, i mean, jaw dropping, just when i think i've seen it all, unbelievable flooding down across houston yesterday. and again, we will let the loop play one more time for you. unreal, the kind of heavy rainfall intensity that just completely engulfed the i10 corridor in that section of the state. so, thankfully, they've chance to dry out at least little bit. some of the flood watt kerr

recede. but still looking at storminess here across the central plane. we still in the meantime are basically under the influence of high pressure, and also cold front dropping south, see how it is fizzling up across up-state new york, so we stay dry here today. high pressure is going to take the place of that cold front passing through, very weak cold front. so back to sunshine tomorrow, staying little breezy, temperatures take modest hit, back to the 60s frankly where we should be, then come thursday and specially friday, that storm system that we just showed you expands over the central planes, that start to move in. so thursday, overall, actually looks pretty good. start with sun, clouds builds in, overnight into friday, the rain starts to move back in. so we will be dodging showers, maybe some pockets of heavy rain, maybe couple every thunderstorms, windy warm that day, temperatures back to the 70s, meantime, beautiful. lovely start to the morning here, the light of day starts to pop, overbroad heads ville, live look at the pleasant valley middle and high schools there, campus at broads heads ville. meanwhile you got to factor in your health, talking about

>> just about everyone is doing it, at least everyone under 32. we are talking about changing jobs. in today's "3 on your side" consumer report, new study finds that millennials are job hopping, a lot more than their parents ever did. >> the new normal for millennials, changing jobs four times in the first decade, out of college. that bouncing around is nearly double what the previous generation did. according to a study by linked in, the so-called jen x's who graduated from 1986 to 1990 averaged about two job changes in their first decade out of college. today, college graduates don't just change jobs often, they switch industries. the biggest hoppers? those with gigs in entertainment, government, non-profit and, yes, the media. millennials who stay in their position the longest, typically work in industries where they make things, cars, manufacturing, and oil.

"eyewitness news" was at a prayer vigil last night on east mayfield streets in kensington, on saturday afternoon police say maurice phillips shot tamire phillips in the head while playing with a loaded gun. phillips is facing murder charges.

>> we are learning more about the deadly amtrak crash in chester. on sunday morning, april 3rd, a train hit a back hoe killing two workers and hurting 41 people on the train. the preliminary report indicates the back hoe had a right to be on the tracks while workers did maintenance. track maintenance was planned over the weekend, april 1st, through april 4th, track two was removed from service during that time. trains were supposed to be running on tracks one, three, and four. now the ntsb does say this information is preliminary. and could change. >> happening today, atlantic city officials will be back in court, they want a judge to freeze the city's spending, until the city hands over millions of dollars it owes its school system. the state education department is suing the nearly broke city. the city paid half of a $8.4 million payment that was due last friday. well, nearly 82 million taxpayers received average irs refunds of about $2,800. >> before you blow that on new gadget, cbs news business

philadelphia sport fans behaving badly, as win simmons said, ed snider would not have been too happy here guys. >> that's a bummer. we got to do better. >> start keeping it classy. we bring in pat gallen, at the game shooting store allows night, in the crowd as bracelets began to rain down, pat, just plane ugly. >> reporter: ya, guys, definitely was, i was actually shooting a story about the atmosphere becomes what it is like to be up close and personal in a playoff atmosphere, the flyers, so gracious and generous, and they let me basically almost on to the ice last night. a front row seat right on the glass, could you see everything right there. and it started off great. i mean, the pre-game ceremony for ed snider was fantastic. although there was one person that started it off by screaming obscenity during the moment of silence, so that one person of course ruined it for everyone. then as the flyers are losing late in the game, mentioned throwing the stuff on to the ice, but not all of them reached the aisles.

so i was in the front row with other people. and we were getting pelted or close to being pelted by these bracelets. and the bracelets, you know, they're little plastic brass lets with a runner band on them. but they are still heavy enough to do some damage. so, it turned into an ugly scene pretty quickly. and we as philadelphians and philadelphia sports fans get a bad rap, and it is just a few people that spoil it for the bunch. this is about 100, maybe 100 or more, that did this. it is not a good look for the city, guys. it was definitely plaque eye for the sit. >> i that's a bummer. >> thanks, pat. we will be checking in with you in just a little while. pat will be back with a look at cool new playgrounds in our area, that kate tears kids with special needs. that's good news. >> that is good news, thanks, justin. and two members of the worlds famous rockettes will be joining us, where you can see them this summer, and also little lesson in high kicking. you don't want to miss it, it is next.

>> pat gratten life in east falls, with more on how special needs kids, get the help they need, to enjoy some fun and games. hey, pat? >> good morning, guys, kids at play here in east falls. and it is an indoor playground, facility, that doubles as a therapy center for children. see the huge jungle gym, ball pit, try to climb out of this thing, i'm too old for this stuff. back here with julia singer cats, julia, go through the backgrounds of this place. how did it come about? where did the idea come from? >> sure t came from this idea that our children in the community needed some more support in terms of early intervention, in terms of therapy. so what we offer here, is physical therapy, occupational

therapy, speech therapy, we do special instruction, we work with kids on the spectrum, and we really wanted it so that when you come in, you don't know who is getting therapy. kids are just playing, and they're learning and they grow as they play. >> private party, and it is really kind of what the community wants to make it. >> so not just for special needs kids, basically for anyone. and big kids like you. >> parent love it, also? >> as you can see, definitely a loft fun with the jungle gym, with the ball pit, all sorts of stuff happening here, go, little deep near some of the therapeutic options for the kids. >> some of the kids we offer, in terms every like our classes, that is today actually at 1:00 our fun with food class. that's actually sensory class. it is led by occupational therapist. the kids are playing with food, they're creating things, but at the same time, working on sensory issues that maybe that can come along with it, spectrum disorders or it could come along with adhd.

we do have this accident here, you can see, route one northbound past route 32, blocking the right lane, forcing everyone over to the left lane. this is going to be very slow moving there. also, we had disable vehicle here, 95 south before cottman. shoulder, now cleared, you can see that sun glare, that's going to let you know, pack those sunglasses. accident here, boulevard southbound, approaching wissahickon, pulled out to the shoulder. you can see the flashing lights, what you are seeing primarily here, is you are going to have some gaper delay. make note of. that will also disable truck, leaking fuel, sumneytown pike near the northeast extension, make note of this. for sure. if you are in this area. because this, you want to stay clear of. any time you have a truck or vehicle leaking fuel, you want to keep a safe distance. also, lawn painting projects between nine a.m. and 3:00 p.m. today. dealing with this yesterday. today it is the blue route moving in both directions. the entire lent of the blue route. wednesday through friday will be the schuylkill, friday the vine street expressway. and then, we've got some sewer repairs here, mt. laurel, new
