doctor jen with the shovel. no, it is about being active. you don't to have run miles to do gardening, you just want to be active. stretch. maybe get yourself limbered up, just don't start getting in to it and work eight hours on one the saturday and you have not been out all season. the that is what the problem is, um-hmm. >> watch with lifting and digging. >> let's talk about this. this is something people come in all the time, they have been doing a day's yard work. weather is getting nice. they will be out in the yard all day licensing. the lets talk about gardening. this is a big thing. we have our garden here which is nice. the lets talk about shoveling mechanics. when you are shoveling first of all, instead of shoveling if you need to you can push soil which is a lot easier. other thing make sure you use a smaller shovel. it sound strange because people want their work done faster but smaller, the less you are lifting up which is helpful because it is heavy. when you get to shovel you are shoveling here, rather than

bending at the waste been the at the knee, pick up the dirt and then walk over. >> just like shoveling snow. >> don't twist or torque your back, that is really important and bending at knees is super important. >> what about putting stuff in the wheel barrel same thing. >> i think biggest thing with this is making sure you are in the overloading it. it is tendency. hey i can fill this up. i don't want you filling it up. lifting a cord go to your weight. this this is something really important. if you have heart or lung conditions, and you know that lifting heavy things might be a little touch and go for you, check with your doctor first because there are some people i'm not going to recommend pushing heavy rocks in a wheel barrel definitely what should be a red flag if i'm sore, soreness will happen. >> soreness will happen, there are a couple things. a lot of people will kind of tweak their back or maybe get shoulder pains.

we call it rice, rest, ice, compression, elevation. rest it. if you are feeling pain, stop doing what you are doing. just take a break. the don't play through or work through it. >> you go to the doctor. >> if the pain doesn't go away or gets worse or if you feel weak or numberness, those are signs that i'm really big on, weakness, numbness, pain that gets worse or doesn't go away, that is when i need to be seeing you. >> good add rise doctor jen, meantime i will hire my neighbor's kids to dot work this year. we will be right back with three to go. stay with us.
