a rare, black bear sighting in the city. the animal was spotted taking a dip in the wissohickon creek before disappearing in the wood, and now the search is on to find the bear before it wanders in to a more populated area. good afternoon, i'm jessica dean. i'm ukee washington. officers with the state gaming commission are work ago long side philadelphia police to track down the animals. our natasha a brownies in fairmount park with the latest on the search, natasha a. >> reporter: well, we can tell you that the hunt for this black bear does continue at this hour. this all started at 11:30 when bear was spotted here in the wissohickon creek just past where the fisherman is right the now around the corner here according to witnesses this was a rare sight as you can imagine captured on cell phone video. take a look at what one witness saw earlier. witnesses say they saw the bear in the creek near forbidden drive and valley green road in upper roxborough. they said the bear appeared to be swimming and fishing for food, in the creek before finally, disappearing, off,

into the woods on the other side of the creek, and, in upper dublin last night and that is when authority were first alerted to the fact there was a bear out here, and pennsylvania gaming commission wild life conservation officer are looking for the bear hoping to tranquilize it at this point before it reaches, areas, very populated nearby. >> well, maybe down and for the regatta this weekend but basically this time of the year they come out of hibernation looking for food and bears from last year basically are looking, they are kick out. mom says fine your own territory. they are looking, exploring for their own territory and all of the corridors that the bear happened to wonder down threw upper dublin, springfield and now into philadelphia. >> reporter: well, again wild life officers are currently outlooking for this bear, this is no easy task as you can imagine as he just disappeared off into the woods here earlier today. of course just to remind you fairmount park is one of the biggest parks in any city in

forest fire in burlington county is 90 percent contained. chopper three over the flames last night in bass river township the. the location of the fire is near dams bridge road, in the bass river state forest. fire was first reported around 5:00 p.m. yesterday. officials say today's rain had helped them immensely in getting things under control. fire burned around 500 acres. a building, once home to a mattress factory went up in flames in philadelphia's bridesberg neighborhood today. chopper three over the scene of the 2200 block of frailly street around 8:30 this morning. fire fighters were able to quickly bring the flames under control no one was hurt. the causes not yet known as of yet. pennsylvania senator bob casey says local rail safety has improved in the form of the positive train control, one year since an amtrak train derailed killing eight in frankford. >> septa and amtrak have had to work very hard with sometimes limited resources to get the job done, just on positive train control. that is not even, that is not

even covering, the major infrastructure challenging that they have. >> reporter: kacie called on washington law make tours do their part to properly fund rail systems to improve safety measures. he said 50 million-dollar allocated by congress for positive train control is not enough. the temple university community is mourning the death of former university president peter liacouras. temple expanded in a big way under his leadership from 1982 to 2,000. liacouras was honored by school in 2,000 when the forum at the apollo of temple was renamed to the liacouras center. memorial services will be held at temple's polling arts center, next friday. peter liacouras passed after a long illness. he was 85. largest clement rowing competition in the united states is underway right now in the schuylkill river. >> over next two days thousands of rowers will compete in the dad vail regatta and, banks of the river are lined with spectators. more than 100 colleges are taking part. dad vail regatta is in the

working to figure out what caused a computer glitch that kept workers at a phoenix airport from being able to search, checked bags. >> the break down happened yesterday, when the equipment screens luggage for explosives. more than 3,000 bags, sat in an airport parking lot as they waited to be shipped by ground to other cities for safety checks. tsa officials say that the blitz only affect phoenix sky harbor airport but everything is back on line, today. the department of home land security and tsa released a ten-point plan to tackle long security lines at the nation's airports. plan includes hiring more than 700 new tsa officers, using additional k-9 teams to screen passengers and encouraging more people to sign up for tsa precheck which allows passengers to move through security faster. >> you want to keep passengers moving but we want to keep passengers safe. that is our primary obligation. >> officials are implementing the new change's head of the busy summer season. a train engineer in poland is getting praise for what he

had two dry days this month and today dealt with the rain again, not much in the way of thunderstorm activity but we will change up as we head in the day tomorrow. it will not rain all throughout the day but you will have to stay wet's wear with the possibility of strong storms as we head into late day tomorrow but right now we're dealing improving conditions, and what is that there? i think the sunshine is trying to come through. it is trying really hard but low clouds are still in place as we look live at center city philadelphia 67 degrees right now. we have warmed up over the last hour, and dew points, they are up there in the lower 60's, because we have all this moisture at the surface. dew points, about that sticky factor and up in the 60's to near 70 degrees as we have in dover, it feels humid. kind of steamy, muggy, sticky, that will be the trend for the next couple of hours but we will get a break in the dew point factor as we head into tonight and through the day tomorrow but storm scan three is showing us we are getting a break from the rain, last of

the shower activity moving off shore, huge sprinkles behind this main line but as we head in the next hour and two that rainfall chance will really diminish and we will see some clearing skies. notice that thick edge to the clearing deck right there. it is continuing to move off to the east with sunshine on the back side of that breaking out across central pennsylvania and i think we will see sunshine breaking out across large portion of the delaware valley before sunsets in several hours and overnight tonight, clearing conditions, nice and dry so rain is moving on out, mild down to 57 degrees with light wind and then for tomorrow we will start off with some sunshine, increasing clouds in the afternoon and then we will see scattered storms developing, worm day tomorrow, up to 74 degrees. we could see stronger storms. storm prediction center has all of the area in the marginal risk. the it is lowest tear of risk but we could see a chance of the isolated severe thunderstorm as this line moves through as we move into late day tomorrow but as i mentioned for this evening, no

problems, heading out over next couple hours leave that umbrella behind. waking up tomorrow morning, some actual sunshine before the clouds deck increases in the afternoon hours. then you'll notice a few spotty showers and thunderstorms developing ahead of the main line. this is 5:00 o'clock in the afternoon. you will notice showers and storms starting to work in our western counties during that time frame. throughout the evening hours, clearing in philadelphia, and surrounding counties and as i move in the shore for ladder part of the evening hours and then by late evening, all of the storms have rolled on out so there will be a quick hit of weather but we could indeed see a few stronger embedded thunderstorms and then on sunday we will see some sunshine, this particular model is picking up on maybe some sprinkle activity. best chance for a few sprinkles will be in the lehigh valley and poconos on sunday but for tomorrow wet weather in the have afternoon and evening hours, temperatures will be very mild up in the lower 70's, low 60's in the mountains and then on sunday windy conditions and much, much cooler, 61 degrees

authorities are investigating a home invasion in philadelphia's somerton neighborhood, a family was a wakened by men with guns and questioned, about money. during the ordeal one of the suspects said they might have targeted the wrong house and that is something police are trying to figure out. >> reporter: authorities called it one of the most quiet spots in philadelphia, but early friday morning that silence was shattered when a real life nightmare for one family. >> scariest thing in my life, like, you know, we just could not believe that this was happening. >> reporter: victim, too frightened to show his face said he was asleep his wife around 1:00 a.m. when three intruders broke in the house through the basement door and tied them up with their adult son. he tells me at least one had a gun. >> they said, well, where is the money. i said i don't have any. they got nothing out of the other guy standing on my wife's side. i don't think this is the house. this is not the house. then that is when they actually, fled. >> reporter: victims say after 30 minutes they were able to free themselves and call for help. philadelphia police who were on the scene through the afternoon, say it is still unclear who the intruders were targeting. >> it is a challenge at this point in time because we are working with what you have as

since may 1st, 20th 2.74 inches of rainfall, only two dry days, so far this month. i think we need some dry weather in the weekend forecast and we are going to get it. storm scan three showing last of the precipitation moving off shore. cloud deck quickly clearing out. look at the that defined line of clearing, western counties, starting to break out in that sunshine as we have seen from our cbs-3 weather watcher reports. still some showers, up wind right now moving close to the shore, up wind in avalon and stone harbor but those will quickly move off to the east and then your cloud will start to decrease as we head in the second half of the evening but some nice sunshine, starting to break out across western chester county and that cloud deck will continue, to erode off to the east with some sunshine breaking out in center city philadelphia as we head in the next couple of hours but with that sunshine breaking out temperatures are warming up at the end of the day, we have jumped up 4 degrees over the last hour in lancaster up to 71 degrees right now. seventy in reading.

where we have clouds in place cooler temperatures down in the middle 60's. elevated are our dew points. as soon as you step outside we have had moisture today and feels very stick which dew points up in the mid 60's, upper 60's in some locations but overnight tonight, humidity will start to drop down, skies clear, milder conditions, down to 57 degrees. for tomorrow mostly sunny for first half of the day. we will get into some sunshine but watching skies for our round of thunderstorms developing for late day and into the evening hours the high temperature tomorrow pretty warm at 74 degrees with that sunshine to start. >> the damp start for tomorrow we're in the lowest category but it is all across the delaware valley, a marginal risk of severe weather meaning we could see one or two strong storms, isolated severe storm. we will not see prolong wet weather activity for our saturday. as i mentioned starting off mostly sun that i would be nice but as we head in the afternoon hours and these storms start popping up mid to late afternoon that cloud deck will start to increase.

we will see it a uniform line moving through in the early evening hours, it is 6:00 o'clock, a few stronger thunderstorms as we continue to raza cross the delaware valley but by late evening hours, all of the wet weather is out of here, so we just have a particular time frame of concern after the 3:00 o'clock hour after 8:00 o'clock in the evening. and then as we push out the rain, cooler temperatures moving in, a big dip in the jet stream for sunday and monday. meantime unseasonably cool temperatures but all together not too bad, sunday 61 degrees, windy conditions, on monday, sunshine is out but we are still cooler than average at 64. >> lauren, thank you. on the cbs-3 healthwatch with the rate of alzheimer's sky rocketing there is new interest and simple ways to keep our brains sharp. there is growing evidence, that the best place to start is in the grocery store. health reporter stephanie stahl has the list of food that can fight dementia. >> reporter: greens and grains

are on the list of foods that have been linked to lower rates of cognitive decline, some thing added that chris, has on her mind, when she goes grocery shopping. >> i would be happy to know i'm doing right thing. >> reporter: leafy green vegetables, blueberries, nuts, seed, fatty fish, olive oil have been associated with the lower risk of alzheimer's disease. so have whole grains, and beans. >> these foods have different components that are neuro protective that help protect our brain, other ones give your brains fuel. >> reporter: so-called brain food are also elements of the mediterranean diet which includes less red meat and processed food. nine out of 12 recent study found a link between that diet and reduced risk of alzheimer's. >> i'm trying to eat more greens and grains. >> reporter: alzheimer's association is evaluating the evident and says it does point to a link between heart healthy food and the lower risk of cognitive decline. >> it business trying to take
