thankfully no one was hurt. cape may county the hardest hit area by these late afternoon storms. hi everyone i'm jessica dean. i'm nicole brewer. ukee is off tonight. "eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live at wildwood with a a look at the damage. it looks pretty bad, cleve. >> reporter: nicole and jessica wind is finally stopping. people say it was extremely intense as that thunderstorm rolled through southern parts of the cape may county. what you are looking at behind me is roof, ripped off, from the top of the public works building, at garfield avenue and the bay. this is a big opened area where the bay has room for the wind to pick up, and it lifted up the top of the area here and threw it on the lawn here. at least 50 feet long with the heavy wood framework that is still attached to it. the nails sticking out. i'm joined by the nair of wildwood, ernie. president mayor tell me about the conditions of the storm as it came through wildwood. >> i have been here a lot of

storms. it turned black. and then it came out of no where. it blew i don't know how strong but, in the chest of 80 r 20 or 25 minutes. >> what happened to this building. >> the doors, we have align of garage door, and they all imploded. and then it looks like lifted the whole roof right off. >> what is your sense of the damage and any injuries. >> thank god no injuries to report at this point. a lot of wires down, lot of trees down, treason cars, your typical stuff. we see this on everybody else we never see this here to this extent and it is hard to believe we got that kind of a win. we could have horizontal tornado that seems like what we had. >> we are waiting for more reports about the nature of the storm that came through here. if you have a second home at the shore point may not be a bad idea to call a neighbor or take a trip down mid week if you have that opportunity. we are hearing more damage

north wildwood, trees down, roof off of a condo by the boardwalk there, middletown ship, lower township reporting lots of trees down. again, southern parts of the cape may county hard hit by these afternoon thunderstorms. reporting live, i'm cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> getting a a look at how strong those are, thanks very much. storms moved in quickly. threat isn't over just yet. meteorologist justin drabick has more what we can expect throughout the night. >> at least good news is though that area of widespread strong to severe thunderstorms is moving off shore. that came through 3:30 in parts of the cape may county and prompted tornado warning. looking better right now. still cloud, muggy, humid still under a gun for shower or storm. we have scattered thunderstorm over central chester county it is moving east at 45 miles an hour. zooming in closer here it has potential to drop a little hail over downingtown area right now brief heavy downpour this will track to the east and south east possibly coming through philadelphia around 6:30 if it holds.

not a big storm. no strong wind gusts but you can get gusts to 30 or 40 miles an hour. those storms earlier did drop wind 60, 70, even 80 miles an hour. parts of the cape may count write the worst. villas in the western part of the county two poles snapped. whitesboro tree on houses, windows blown out on homes, tree came down on southbound route nine and route 47. that stopped traffic. numerous power outageness middletown ship. south of the city, so delaware, parts of the central and southern new jersey that is best chance to see another scattered shower or storm tonight. nothing widespread. severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9:00. this evening, another hour or two maybe a shower or storm, south jersey, delaware. potential for damaging wind at 50 miles an hour and small hail. we will bring in more storm chances later this week and we will time it out in a few minutes, nicole, back to you. authorities continue to interview the 12 girls rescued from the house in feasterville bucks county last week. police say one of the girls

was gifted to lee kaplan by her own parents. kaplan faces a list of charges including sexual assault. parents and kaplan are being held on one million-dollar bail. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff traveled to lancaster county to learn more about the parent, alex. >> reporter: coming to an amish community like this looking for answers is not easy, especially when there is a camera involved but it seems that daniel and savilla stoltzfus parted ways with the church many years ago just around the same time they met a man namely kaplan. stoltzfus told police of the 12 girls found inside of 51 year-old lee kaplan's bucks county home, ten their daughters and two their granddaughters, born to the eldest, who couple admits gift to go kaplan when she was just 14 years old. but those are not their own children. at a family property near quarryville lancaster county i spoke with the polite, yet extremely skiddish 19 year-old who says he is their son. he was only able to tell me

situations has been hard, his sisters were well cared for and his dad daniel is a a good dad. stoltzfuss have another son a toddler killed in may of 2001 in a farming accident. enter very dark times. five months later the couple borrowed three hundred thousand dollars from the old amish helping fund a loan for their metal business that was essentially revoke due to allegations of child abuse that police later found no evidence of and relationship with a non-amish man named lee kaplan. in 2003 the couple left the church and in 202 gave their eldest daughter to kaplan telling police it was a gift for helping them out of financial ruin. at kirkwood property a woman said to be daniel's moth's arrived. >> very distraught and upset. >> reporter: non-amish friend said family has not had contact with the 12 girls. they are in custody being questioned, all three adults have been charged.

"eyewitness news" reporter joe holden is live outside federal building with more on today's verdict, joe. >> reporter: good evening to you. jury assigning blame on everybody involved in this, lets talk about those key players. there was the money man there was woman responsible for concealing the documents. there was the brains behind the operation. then central figure congressman chaka fattah, this all dating back to a nine year long running scheme congressman fattah's long fall from grace which started in

2007, then looking for a new job he ran for mayor of philadelphia on the campaign trail federal agents say fattah received an illegal million-dollar loan, prosecutors alleged that the democrat lawmakers would root money through non-profit programs and grants to conceal loan's repayment. prosecutors described the scope of the corruption and racketeering a white collar crime spree. >> in short, chaka fattah senior and his co-defendants betrayed the public trust and under mind our faith in government report rorrer injuries or spent two days deliberating the fate of four co-defendants tied to fattah each was convicted for their specific rolls in how this elaborate corruption scheme got off the ground. >> very tough day but we will confer with my lawyers and we will figure out what our next steps are. >> reporter: prosecutors say philadelphia political magnate herb vederman was congressman fattah's human atm. he showered him with cash in exchange for his support with an ambassadorship. vederman's family said he was

kind, helpful, and victim of an over reaching and aggressive prosecution. >> when fattah came to him and said something like my sonnies in trouble and he needs help, my uncle was kind of person who be there to help. >> reporter: prosecutors are pressing for jail time, it is unknown if fattah will resign his congressional seat at sentencing, u.s. attorney would only say this. >> this trial is a referendum of chaka fattah's senior conduct bye for congress and other person to determine what the appropriate steps for congressman fattah to take. >> reporter: now sentencing is scheduled for october, once again, fattah remains a congressman tonight. reporting live at federal court, in downtown, joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". mayor kenney was in washington tc for a national press club events and reporters asked him what he thought of the congressman's convictions. >> criminal just advertise process went forward. it is my understanding that congressman who has been convicted cannot vote. i think district there needs a voting member.

you know, the jury has spoken and is there nothing more i can say. >> again, when asked whether or the not the congressman should resign in light of the day's event mayor kenney only repeat ago this fattah's district needs a voting member in congress. city of orlando continues to heel following the night club massacre that killed 49 people. united states attorney general loretta lynch was in orlando and visited memorial honoring victims. she also met privately with those impacted by the shooting. lynch met with investigators who are trying to understand why the shooter opened fire inside that night club. also today the city removed barriers reopening the main street, and just in front of the nightclub. dogs from our region are visiting orlando to provide comfort, tri-state k-9 crisis response team based in cherry hill left for orlando early this morning. six therapy dogs and their handlers are especially trained to help people deal with the stress and shock of

>> he just got a bonus of 6 million. >> yes. >> he is 18 years old. >> they say he is a good guy. >> that is great. >> we will see him grow. >> exactly. >> thanks, don. let's switch gears and talk weather, justin. the crazy day. >> kind of rough in south jersey. we had strong to severe thunderstorm and wind ripe to produce rotation and prompted a tornado warning in cape may county. this is eyewitness video from north wildwood showing whipping wind so strong it carried, pieces of debris through the air. we had strong wind gusts up around six on seven on 80 miles an hour from those storms that rolled on in. not only that we will dough live to chopper three over wildwood. this is public works building where the roof has been ripped off. you get wind gusting over 60 miles an hour you will get big time roof damage. we are seeing a lot of reports from homes with windows blown out. you can see there just demolish right there. that is good indication there that strong wind up to around 80 miles an hour.

go into assess this damage what they will look for is trees and poles if they are all fallen down in one direction together that means straight line wind not a tornado but debris scattered all over the place would indicate a tornado. we will see what the national weather service does there. thinks wildwood from chopper three. pun works building just torn up there from those severe thunderstorms, prompted tornado warning earlier, this afternoon in cape may county. looking a whole lot better now on storm scan three, cluster that rolled off shore. we are left with clouds and showers. maybe getting another rumble of thunder, basically from the city on south, and that will get a slight risk for severe storms this evening for parts of the southern new jersey. enhanced risk in far central and southern delaware. that is best shot to see showers or storm if we do get it. first full day of the official summer season today. we made it up to 88 above average of 846789 we will cool it down next couple days. nothing too cool but we will get summer relief from the heat and humidity.

mid 80's in allentown and reading where they did not see any rain a lot of sunshine. seventy-five in chicago. a little area carved out will track down to the south and east. our temperatures to drop below average by end of the week. if you don't like humidity you didn't like today. still humid right now. big difference tomorrow. bring back some steamy conditions on thursday. but then by friday and saturday, another pleasant air mass fills back n let's time it out, through 9:00 or 10:00 there could be another shower or storm across delaware, south jersey, nothing widespread at this point. we're good overnight. tomorrow looks good. the mostly sunny skies. thursday we will have more cloud, showers, a few thunderstorms, some of those could be severe around the city and points tout south. temperature wise tonight more comfortable. some areas up to the north could drop in the upper 50's in the lehigh valley, parts of the northern bucks and montgomery county such as quakertown. tomorrow noticeably cooler, still warm, well in the mid 80's but that is average for
