"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao is live at west chester's campus where the faculty is walking the picket lines, good morning, jan. >> reporter: good morning, that is right. faculty union went on strike at 5:00 a.m. and very soon after this alarming group of faculty joined the picket line here at west chester university. there are 17,000 students who rely on these faculty members. it will have a lot of

ramifications here and these faculty members say they are willing to stay on the picket line until they get the a fair contract. joining us is mark ripple, local president here of the chapter, hashing, thanks for being on the show. >> thank you for having us. >> it is an early morning but it is important, what are you working for today. >> we're working for a fair contract, undivided faculty. this entire ross zest, chancellor's office has been trying to divide us, to pit untenured faculty, temporary faculty against senior faculty, to divide us by wages, and also weaken our contract in a lot of row visions we have. they have kept us bargaining for two years. and it is just until april before the summer before we even started to have language. we got something in may. we didn't get money information until this september. so we have really been, strung along this entire time.

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao ifs live on west chester's campus with the the sticking points ape reaction from students, jan. >> reporter: jim, good morning. a lot on the line here at west chester university to daze here on the picket line, specifically you can see dozens of faculty members behind me. these are professionors at west chester university who won't be in class today but instead on the picket line. they are working for a fair contract and that is what they say includes fair work rules, health care coverage and raises but also on the line is education for 17,000 students who attend west chester university, much like lauren sanders here, hoist a senior and that is a big concern among seniors looking for credits towards graduation. what is your major and your specific concern. >> my major is athletic training in the sports medicine department and my specific concern is that if this last long in the semester abe i don't finish my course load i cannot sit for my

certification exam in the spring and if i cannot take that certification exam that effects when i can go to graduate school. >> it is a big deal not only that but you have paid to be in class today but still you have to sign in your hand and you you are standing in solidarity with your teachers here, tell me about that. >> i woke up this morning and came out to see what was going on. i saw the two professors who are the head of my department. i felt like i had no choice but to stand with them. i support them. i still support them. when i saw them here i felt like i had to stand with them. >> reporter: now the school has said, west chester university has posted on their web site that students should go to class to see if their professors are there or not. or they can go home. we have heard here on the picket line that this will essentially shut down classes and they will be empty. are you going to class today? what have you her. >> i have a class at ten and my professor is walking here. my professors have all told us that they are going to be here, they are going to be striking, and i'm not going to

their patrol cars, near rittenhouse square. one station right now, it is right in the middle of the square, victim is a 39 year-old man recovering in the hospital after police say he was shot multiple times. he is in stable condition. it proves that being listed in critical condition. police are looking for two men ran from here last night, it happened around 9:30. police say the 39 year-old man was on his bike and when he saw two men trying to rob people at gunpoint here. police say that this good samaritan intervened saying something along the lines of you will in the rob these people, police say one of the robbers took out his revolver and shot this man. this is happening on a warm full night. a lot of people here, neighborhood where this type of violence rarely occurs and those living here are trying to wrap their heads around what happened. >> i heard five gunshots, there was one right after the other. >> i just was shocked for the moment but then again i'm in
