"eyewitness news" reporter greg argos live in center city at the site of the statue, and greg, what are people saying tonight? >> welshing as you can imagine , nicole, philadelphians, both sides of this issue right now, hear from them in just a moment. but i want to paint you the picture of what's going on, that's the statue of course here at the municipal services building surrounded by two levels of barricade, plenty of philadelphia police, and that's because there is a march, a rail, which is expected to ends here at the statue, the statue which has become so very controversial over the past two days.

equivalent to anything else that happened in charlottesville. i believe the president should have been and still needs to be un ambiguous on that point. >> talking to kids about the events in charlottesville. and the nation's political climate can be difficult. henry rossoff live on independence mall, what some are calling an opportunity. henry? >> we spoke with both community leaders even historian about the best way to speak with your children about this moment in time, and about what happened in virginia. the concensus is this will be eye opening for both parent and their kids. >> when would you try to talk to them few years ago, mom and dad, that does not exist, that world is not there. >> called the events in charlottesville a revealing moment for young people. he is telling his parishioners who are parents that the most important thing they can do right now is to be therefore their children. >> they watch the news, ask questions, well (would someone say that, because of the color of our skin.

>> this is tough. sometimes no words. sometimes just a hug, come sit next to me. >> you know, somehow we will make this country live up to the promise that it has made. >> really hard. >> i'm not going to pretends testees. >> i reggie with the aclu of pennsylvania encores courages parents to teach their kids not hate speech is wrong but why in america people have the right to say what they feel, even if it is offensive. >> it is necessary to have those conversations about what an america that is really differs, different people, different perspectives, what that looks like, what that means, that means good things, that means bad things. >> if parents are having trouble explaining the images of hate, coming out of places like charlottesville, there are always resources like the national museum of american jewish history right here in philly. >> these symbols have a power, and these symbols have a past. and the most important thing we can be doing today is educating ourselves, and educating our children about their history.

really nice to see them reminiscing about growing up with dogs, and maybe missing some of their pets, but that's okay, we were able to, you know, share some smiles today. >> oh, that they d each dog had their biography red, to the crowd. the seniors learned where the animals were from, and what they like to do for fun. some of the smaller animals also got a chance to cuddle with some of the resident. nicely done. >> now the countdown continues , little less than five days until the solar eclipse. the eclipsefest cough taj continues as we countdown to the billing day. >> yesterday we told but how wild animals will react to the event. but what about your pets? but will tests be ' qually as excited as their owners, or will the pets be anxious? >> the scientific evidence will document what is going to happen to pets. >> doctor carlos is with pen vets brian hospital in philadelphia. he's among many veterinarians being bombarded when questions from concerned pet owners. studied animal behavior for 15 years, said, likely there is one condition will that will determine if your pet will have a reaction to the rare natural phenomenon monday. >> if they have learned association, then they will do t behavior, or at a minimum they get confused because the time frame that -- >> if your pooch or bet gets little anxious during the eclipse, the solution is certainly. just give it a little extra loving, little extra comfort. but if you know ahead of time that your pet gets little anxious in general, vets are recommends that do you not take the pet out during the
