right now dan scavino is now claiming that he is not anti-semitic and he did not get this image of what could be considered a sheriffs star. after that tweet was sent out yesterday or sunday it was quickly covered up with a circle before being tleeted entirely. it prompted a ton of backlash online for what that might look like to somebody who potentially is jewish. the campaign has been trying to push back. dan scavino is saying no i'm not anti-semitic. my wife is jewish. we got this from th the #crookedhillary scraping. the campaign hasn't told us where this tweet originated from, where this image originated from and whether it

to get out on the campaign trail. the campaign believes he is uniquely suited about what is required to be in the oval office and about clinton and her experience and what it is like to not only work with her but to go from being rivals with her to the closest of confidants. of course he has proven himself to be a very effective attack dog against donald trump. not clear we will hear him mention donald trump by name but you can bet he will draw sharp distings. president obama out on the campaign trail. the reason why he is hugely popular, his approval rating, 56%. he helped clinton in north carolina.

this comes three days after clinton's interview with the fb if i about the use of her private e-mail server. she spoke exclusively with chuck todd about it. joining me now is assistant director, bill gavin. as you heard her speaking to chuck todd she said she was anxious to bring this to a close. hillary clinton wants this investigation over. what information do they want, do they need to shut this up? >> basically, you know, there are two different things to look at here. hillary said she was glad to

appear and wanted to appear. politically she had to appear. the problem that i had is she brought a cast of at least a half dozen people with her which isn't a usual thing. in three and a half hours there is no way she has the ability to answer all of the questions that the fbi has. >> but why? given the investigation has been going on for years in three and a half years. at this point they have had to have asked everything. >> absolutely not. if you consider that this case has to go or made very well on recommendation of the bureau going to the justice department and they say have a grand jury this case could go on for a week or more to present the facts. there are a ton of questions. she has to understands a couple of agents flew everything abokn

the case. they knew how to interpret the answers. this is a very dangerous thing. while she is not under oath if she didn't tell the truth to the fbi she opened herself up to another prosecution. >> if she was not under oath but she didn't tell the truth would that be breaking the law? >> if she didn't tell the truth, you have seen it a thousand times, that people are interviewed by the fbi and do not tell the truth, they may not be tried and convicted for the violation but they do get in trouble for lying during the course of the inquiry. yes, she would be vulnerable to prosecution. >> and as you mentioned earlier, this was voluntary. had she not done it what would happen? she could get subpoenaed while on the campaign triail. it would look significantly

worse. >> i think probably the next step would have been to determine whether or not they will have a grand jury. if they do she would be subpoenaed. >> we learned james comey will be speaking today. how closely tied is he to this investigation? >> director comey knows everything single detail of this investigation. he is a tremendously bright giechlt guy. he knows what has gone on. he has directed the investigation and he will leave no stone unturned until he is ready to present it to the department. >> and you don't think three hours of questions would close that down? >> absolutely not. it isn't even close to being enough. they have all of the questions they have drafted for the interview. not only do they have the questions, they knew what the answers were. she could add maybe some clinton

short list got a little bit longer. it was ton 4th of july the day before. donald trump tweeted that quote the only people who are not interested in being the vp pick are the people who have not been asked. kelly, what have these two potential candidates bring to the table? >> part of this is that donald trump is reaching into the heartland. it may also be a signal to the party that he represents something important to republican supporters. he is a governor in a heartland state where trump wanted hugely to use a word trump would like in the indiana primary.

he worked here in leadership roles and can understand how this place works, so he offers that. he is also a social conservative. so he can speak to that wing of the party where donald trump does not have that part. she was chosen to deliver the response for the republican party after the president's state of the union. that is a high profile role. she also served for about 20 years and retired and was deployed to iraq. she has some of that experience as well. one of the questions will be is this a vetting meeting where donald trump is considering both of these people for a running mate spot or could it be something different like a keynote speaking address. these are things we don't have nailed down and perhaps it's not even resolve yet but being more public about potential vp

go to our reporter ton the ground. before that we have to take you to washington where the house of representatives returns to work and is expected to take up republican gun control measures. what's unclear is whether democrats will try to shut down the house again in the bitter fight over gun control. luke joins us from capitol hill. glad to see you're out of the car and you're on the hill. walk us through specifically what don't democrats like about this bill? >> well, they see this as something that is backed by the nra and essentially says you have a 72 hour window for the government to prove that a suspected terrorist on the list is not in fact a -- or is in fact a literal terrorist. they say the burden of proof is too high ton the government. if you were on this list and

you're specifically pinpointed then the idea is that you have gotten there because there are real factors that have determined the likelihood that you have dangerous. they say that the burden of proof is way too high in order to get somebody off of this list. all of that being said where the real question will be this week is what exactly moves forward on the floor. there are competing democratic proposals. ryan believes giving those a vote would in some way knowledge that the protest on the house floor and he does not want to set that precedent. the leader has a meeting tonight with speaker ryan. take a look at what he would like to see and what is capable of being done on the house floor regarding this gun issue. >> when we have come back here on july 5th they will continue to push, to pull, to stand out

and if necessary, so sit down. >> we know how dramatic this sit-in was. they could be the real impact? is this smoke and mirrors? it costs a lot of taxpayer dollars to do this. what's really moving the needle? >> i think what moves the needle is the social media campaign that came out of that last sit-in. and there is palpable frustration around the country with this seemingly inability of congress to get anything done with gun violence. these issues the democrats are pushing forward no, fly, no buy, if you can't get a gun there should be universal background checks at gun shows that, has 85, 90% polling support. the republicans realize this is an election year, 125 days until the house is up in november. they don't want to go against the nra. so what the democrats see is an opportunity for them to say, hey, we're doing everything in our power, it's politically

popular for our base. and the republicans say the most motivated voters are gun rights voters, we can take a stand against these democrats. so to some capacity, this works for both sides this week if they have another standoff. >> thanks for joining us, luke russert on capitol hill. i want to go back to the story of the university of wisconsin student killed in italy. we're live from rome. what led to this arrest? >> reporter: well, stephanie, so far the investigators have given us a lot of details about the man they arrested in connection with the murder of beau solomon, but not much about why they would have murdered him. this morning they arrested a 40-year-old homeless man from rome and they charged him with aggravated murder for futile motives. what could this future i'll motives be? this is a robbery gone wrong.

solomon arrived in rome on thursday for -- to attend a five-week summer school at john cabot university, a liberal arts college, very popular with american students here in rome. the same night he went out with a bunch of other classmates, possibly to make friends and to get to know each other at a bar nearby here in the neighborhood. about 1:00 in the morning, they got separated, and when he didn't turn up the next morning for orientation class, that's when they reported him missing. investigators looked into it and soon found about $1500 spent following his disappearance. when they found his lifeless body in the river, tiber yesterday on the fourth of july, the suspected robbery turned into a gruesome murder case. >> tragic story. thank you. moving forward, the mega millions drawing tonight will be worth, that's right, mega, mega
