informant within the trump campaign lead to questions of obstruction? ivanka hitting the trail for a loyal republican. why this could be seen as a warning sign, coming up. we begin with a live picture of the white house after an oval office welcome for another american citizen who had been imprisoned abroad. president trump celebrating the release of 26-year-old joshua holt and his wife from eveveneza from prison. a signal that more americans will soon be coming home. >> we have had 17 released. and we are very proud of that record, very proud, and we have others coming. we are in the big of some big negotiations to get others out. in most cases, they are americans, but we can try and help other countries, too, where there's unjustice. >> the president is making new comments on the june 12 summit with kim jong-un. >> that i thinks are very well in terms of the summit with north korea.
4:02 am
looks like it's going along very well. a lot of people are working on it. it's moving along nicely, so we are looking at june 12th in singapo singapore, that hasn't changement and it's moving along pretty well. so we'll see what happens. >> president trump's comments followed an unannounced meeting between kim jong-un and the south korean president on the north korean side of the demilitarized zone. bill knee lneely is joining us south korea. what did the two leaders talk about? >> reporter: good morning, dara. president moon offered more proof that donald trump does indeed want a summit. and more momentum building to the summit. he said it was kim who asked to meet him. he said kim reiterated he was
4:03 am
absolutely committed to meeting donald trump. to having denuclearization. but the interesting part is what kim was concerned about. not about the issue of denuclearization, but he was worried that the united states couldn't be trusted. that he couldn't trust the united states to guarantee his security. otherwise, if you like the fought of gadhafi hovering over the summit at the back of kim's mind, gadhafi gave up the nuclear program seven years lawsuiter. that is worrying kim jong-un. the north korean president and talks with donald trump are
4:04 am
critical. and donald trump who canceled the summit on thursday now appears to be talking like that never happened. he said that it has not changed and things are moving along well. so it does appear that the summit is back from the dead, but momentum to having this on the 12th. but the one thing that still is hanging in the air is that this really hasn't been defined. president moon wouldn't spell out today what that means to kim jong-un. we know there's a gap between what it means to kim and what it means to the united states. so the summit may be back on track, on again, off again, now it appears on again, but some of the key issues, dara, have not been resolved. bill neely live in seoul. thank you so much for the reporter. let's bring in jonathan allen

4:06 am
investigation into what he's calling spygate. so he got what out of these, does that buy him anything? >> no. he's attacking the people investigating him and basically saying anybody that worked under barack obama and the federal government over the course of the eight years is a democrat. and an an to-trump person, even though many have been involved in the investigations are life-long republicans. i think donald trump often tweets what he's feeling. sometimes the best thing is to real the analysis of what he wrote. >> he tweeted about "the new york times" saying, quote, a nonexistent senior white house official, when, in fact, the paper had an audio exposure.
4:07 am
dud he intentionally try to misinform? >> i would be shocked if the president was trying to is inform the public. he's a person who really doesn't seem to know his administration. >> with all the tweets, they just seem to overshadow the release of the american prisoners in venezuela. help can't stand to let the moment stand on its own. so he has to promise more to come. how did this release come about? >> you know, i think the -- the americans detained overseas are being brought back home. that's something he clearly thinks about. that's not only the right thing to do, but a good photo-op

policy. it's interesting that he decided to sort of jump on his own way. i can't tangle with that. but taking folks detand over yeahs for what we believe to be improper reasons and bringing them home. >> ozzie, should we expect more or is this part of the president's inclination to overhype and sell the moments? >> the inclination is to oversell. but this is the core piece of trump's appeal to his supporters. in this case, it's a gentleman from the midwest. this is part of the trump awe peel to the public. he's helping people and getting things accomplished. don't worry about check in inis.

>> and this time on the policy separating children from parents once they cross the border, that his administration had pushed and strengthened. now the base wants him to be tough on immigration, so why credit, if you will, democrats for this policy? >> i think what is clear is that the president is sensitive to the idea that even many or no children should be separated from their parents. the department of homeland security is dealing with adults and hhs is dealing with minors. this goes along with the views of the express views on daca. even though he ended the

politi politics. children that calm here illegal ly -- the vast major to of americans agree that people who came here illegally as children should be published. and the current children shouldn't be separated from their parents. >> ozzie, what is your take on the issue? >> the president understands family. however, it's defined, a parent's relationship to their own child is something no politician wants to get in the middle of unless absolutely necessary. so anything that avoids him looking like he's responsible for any of that kind of separation is something he wants to do. >> azi, jonathan, thank you. stick around, because we have more to talk about today. should he or shouldn't he?

president and it's different from the typical case. >> doug, what would you do? have the president come in, even as a former prosecutor, would this be setting up for a perjury trial? >> it could, but i don't think that is the intention that ken starr is trying to follow. if i could get a reasonable scope of duration, you know, when something goes off topic, we take a time-out and step out in the hall and say, we don't want to discuss that. here with it being the president yifts, i united states, i'm sure they can agree to what the scope of it and what the timing will be. if that's the case, again, it's not a game show answer, not black and white. it's not like i'm saying definitely go in and other people say definitely no. it depends on the facts of the case. >> doug burns so wants to talk
