incredible piece out this morning, looking at russian counter-intelligence operations here on u.s. soil. some astounding stuff in your piece. tell us more about this. >> sure, absolutely. so my colleagues, we have been working on this story for the lant month and a half, and our story goes into extensive details about the years prior to russia's infamous election meddling in 2016. so prior to that, russia had been involved in an astounding technical break through, what many former officials told us was a very important deal, russian spies on u.s. soil, were able to compromise the fbi's radio communications, which essentially made it possible for russian spies operating in the u.s. to run around freely, in certain contexts and meet with their sources without any of the fbi agents repealing them, or knowing what is going on.

as 15% after that attack on saudi arabian oil facilities, we have more from london. let's talk about the markets here. after the weekend's activities. how has this spike in prices impacted the markets? >> huge move, as you say, at one point, it was up 15%, on the open, and since then, we peared some of those gains but still up about 8%, or $6, and just to give you the context of this. saudi has said that this will disrupt 5.7 million barrels a day of the daily production. that's more than half. 5% of global supply. so no wonder we are seeing this big reaction in the oil markets.

and overnight the saudis released a statement saying they look to restore one-third of the production lost in the next couple of weeks and analysts warn if it goes on longer than six weeks, we could see brent prices move up north of $70, $75, as i mentioned, we're trading around $66 here. opec member, the other oil situation very closely. they have said that there's no need as of yet to call for an extraordinary meeting. they're keeping a close eye on the situation and in the u.s. of course president trump has tweeted saying. u.s. they're looking to release strategic reserves. that's something that's usually only reserved for extreme circumstance because they said they're locked and loaned ready to loaded and ready to go. >> let me get your thoughts about another big story in the u.s. auto workers have gone on strike

against general motors. what can you tell us about that? >> this strike went into action yesterday at 11:59 p.m. it is a walkout put together by the unite the auto workers union, the uaw, in protest against general motors. and 46,000 workers have walked out so far of 31 general motors factories spread across nine different states. this is a protest of their pay poll sands they're saying the company is putting profits ahead of the employees. and these are the same employees who helped turn the company around after the bailout a decade ago. the last auto walkout lasted three days long. we don't know how long. last but they've started negotiations. >> thank you. coming up, axios's mike allen as a look at the one big
