working to learn more about an interstate shooting. state police say someone shot two men in a car on 64 near j clyde morris boulevard. both are expected to be okay. this story was breaking all morning. 10 on your side's erin kelly is live in newport news with the latest developments. earlier this morning police shut two travel lanes to investigate and then reopened them. at this point -- we don't know why this happened or who police are looking for. troopers say they got a call around 2 am for a possible shooting. they say a car with two men inside was heading west near the harpersville road exit when another car pulled up. police say hospital for treatment.

called 911 or what police have not said who called 911 or what investigations is looking into this. live in newport news, erin kelly, 10 on your side. more developing news --- in suffolk. police say a three-year-old boy shot himself last night at a home on jonathans way in the applewood farms neighborhood. right now, the toddler is at c-h-k-d in norfolk. investigators say the boy should recover. 10 on your side's joe fisher spent the day in suffolk gathering new information. ((look live vosot)) ((joe)) suffolk police tell me the three-year-old boy found a gun inside his home and accidentally shot himself in the upper shoulder. ((pkg)) neighbors on jonathans way in the applewood farms section of suffolk report heavy police activity surrounding this home -- just after 7:30 wednesday night. that's when medics responded to help the injured three-year-old. police say the child found the gun --- which was in the home for protection -- and accidentally pulled the trigger. he received

a local cold case murder is moving forward. during a preliminary hearing in norfolk --- a judge certified 2nd degree murder charges against michael brown to the grand jury. brown is accused of killing angela lechlitner (leck-light-ner) in 2008 at her shafer street home. police arrested brown in goldsboro, north carolina in september. detectives have not said if brown knew lechlitner. 10 on your side has identify the second suspect in a double murder. 26-year-old stephen hayes turned himself into police tuesday. police think hayes and 33-year-old laratio dantzler shot and killed two people near 14th and wickham avenue in january.

eyewitness picked hayes out of a photo lineup. according to the paperwork, a witness said the two suspects tried to rob the victims. police say -- on the day of the murders -- an officer shot dantzler after he shot at two officers and wouldn't cooperate. dantzler went in police custody. a construction worker is recovering after an accident this morning in portsmouth. portsmouth's fire chief says the man was 25 feet in the air --- when he was hit by construction material. it happened at the corner of washington and county streets. crews took the victim to the hospital. investigators are working to find out what sparked a fire at a norfolk home. someone spotted smoke and called 9-1- 1. crews responded to the call from chesapeake boulevard around 10 this morning . the fire department sent 10 on your side this picture of the damage inside the bedroom. no one was home when the fire started. no one can stay here because of the damage from the smoke and flames. the hampton fire department's arson dog is helping investigate what

fire in ocean view. the department sent us these pictures of "taylor" and her handler going through the rubble this morning. andy fox was there yesterday when residents returned for a closer look at the damage. saturday's fire in willoughby destroyed eight buildings and damaged six. the york-poquoson's sheriff's office is investigating a gas station robbery. it happened this morning at a shell station on hampton highway in yorktown. we are working to get more information from deputies. sheriff's deputies in gloucester county are working to track down bank robber. they sent us these pictures from the langley federal credit union on george washington highway. around four yesterday afternoon --- deputies say this man gave the teller a note demanding cash. once he had the money --- the suspect ran into the farm fresh parking lot, jumped into a car and drove off. virginia beach police are looking for the man they say hit someone in the head during an attempted robbery. dispatchers say the attack happened around seven last night on holland road in the chimney hill area. the victim went to the hospital. detectives have a vague description of the suspect. new information about a

it's a way of life that's going under, and some fear a small island community in the chesapeake bay is no match for the pounding waters that surrounds it. oceanographers also say those waters are rising --- creating double trouble for tangier island. 10 on your side's tom schaad is here to preview tonight's special report on a way of life that's washing away, and if there's anything that can be done to stop it. anita and stephanie, many agree tangier island, the last island fishing community on the virginia side of the chesapeake bay, is a treasure. and it's not easy to get to. we flew from chopper 10, and that trip gave us some spectacular aerials of what this culture is up against. tangier island is remote, about 14 miles west of the eastern shore, near the middle of the bay. to drive here, along with the ferry ride, would have taken us about four hours, which gives you an idea on how remote this island is. and it is literally going under. a recent report released by

engineers says tangier has lost close to 70 per cent of its land since 1850. so the problem here is sea level rise from climate change. the corps of engineers blames sea level rise together with erosion exacerbated by storms. so its recommending a series of dunes and sea walls to protect the island. how much time do these people have before tangier island becomes uninhabitable? oceanographers estimate, if nothing is done to protect the island, about 50 years. if you notice i'm walking with the mayor of tangier island, james eskridge. he took me to a once thriving neighborhood on the

we're on your side with information about a massive recall from toyota. the automaker is recalling nearly three million s-u-vs around the world because of problems with the seatbelts. toyota executives say a piece of metal could damage the seatbelt during a crash, which could keep it from properly restraining passengers. most of the vehicles

made between 2005 and 2014. if you own one of the recalled s-u-vs --- toyota says it will contact you about replacing the belt. we've put details on wavy-dot-com. ford says one of its new cars offers pothole protection. the automaker says a shock absorber system on the 2017 fusion v-six sport sedan automatically stiffens when sensors detect a pothole. that allows the system to keep the wheel elevated instead of dropping into the pothole. some luxury cars including ford's lincoln m-k-z have similar technology. apple is recalling 895-thousand a-c adapter kits because they are an electric shock hazard. the recall involves apple world travel adapter kits and wall plug adapters. apple has received a dozen reports of shock incidents. don't use the adapters and contact apple for

court --- the clerk's office unsealed the details of the case. 10 on your side's matt gregory is here with those new details. in december, portsmouth police cleaned one of the dirtiest streets in portsmouth. a stretch of elm avenue, where court documents say where the gang , corna sto boys bought and sold thousands of dollars cocaine and heroin. all a stones throw away from brighton elementary school. that corner which you can see is so close to brighton elementary school. you can imagine on a former drug corner, neighbors didn't want to talk to us on camera. but witnesses tell me since december the traffic at elm and fillmore has died down. they point to a home at the corner as the hot spot of activity. court affidavits report the gang paid people to watch for police. one of the men norman stephenson, pleaded guilty and admitted selling up to a 1/2 ounce of crack cocaine every day from that corner . 3 other men jawanza johnson, lacharles hodges and charles battle had their inital appearances this week. each faces charges for the drug conspiracy for selling on

several candidates to participate in a town hall last night hosted by c-n-n. we're learning more about what happened before the el faro sinking. the coast guard held another hearing today in florida. this is video from yesterday's hearing. today a second mate told the panel he warned the captain via text message that a storm looming offshore was forecast to become a hurricane. second mate charles baird was on vacation. baird says captaint michael davidson replied that he planned to go near but "under," or south, of the storm. investigators want to know why davidson chose to sail closer to a hurricane when he chose a more evasive route in previous storms. el faro went down in the atlantic during a hurricane in october. all 33 people on board died, including men from chesapeake and virginia beach. crews found the wreckage in about 15-thousand feet of water near the bahamas. president barack obama is traveling to cuba next month. here are pictures of his tweets this morning officially announcing the brief

the president says the visit will advance u.s. efforts to restore ties with the communist nation and improve the lives of cubans. the white house says president obama will meet with cuban president raul castro, cuban entrepreneurs and members of civil society. president obama will be the first sitting president to visit cuba in more than half a century. president calvin coolidge visted cuba in 1928. six turkish soldiers are dead and one injured after a bombing. the military says a handmade bomb detonated by remote control targeted a military vehicle. the soldiers were searching for mines on a highway at the time of the blast. this is the second deadly bombing in two days. this is surveillance video of another terrorist bombing wednesday night. it's a little fuzzy. but you can see someone walk down the street in ankara as cars go by. then moments later there's a huge flash of white obscuring the camera and smoke left behind. the car bombing targeted a military convoy. at least 28 people died. more than 60 others were hurt.

they just stopped a couple from bringing in more than $4-and-a-half million dollars in counterfeit bills. check out these pictures of the evidence from detroit. agents say the vietnamese couple flew in from south korea. they say there were several bundles of fake vietnamese bills, too. agents say because the couple never tried to spend the money, they weren't arrested and were allowed to continue their trip. the f-b-i is investigating a hospital hacking. a los angeles facility paid a 17-thousand- dollar ransom in order to regain control of its computer systems. the hollywood presbyterian medical center ended up paying the hackers in the internet currency bitcoins. malware locked up access to certain systems and prevented electronic communications. hospital administrators decieded the quickest way to get back up and running was to pay the ransom. 10=6:23: "i'm jason marks in accomack county the case of a stolen dog takes a bizarre twist when it goes to court i'll let you know what happened"

and a new study reveals that the military is struggling to provide adequate care for thousands of troops suffering from

depression. a study by the rand corp found many of the 40 thousand troops they studied are not getting the minimum number of therapy sessions. according to military guidelines --- that minimum number is four sessions within eight weeks. or at least two sessions to manage newly prescribed medications. military officials blame a lack of mental health professionals and plan to examine the rand study and find ways to improve. about one in five americans visit the emergency room every year. a new c-d-c report reveals the reasons why. 77-percent of adults of who went to the e-r in 2014 said they needed treatment for a serious medical condition. 12-percent chose the emergency room because their doctor's office was not open seven percent said they had no other health provider. medicaid patients were most likely to seek emergency care for serious symptoms. uninsured adults tended to use the e-r for less urgent problems.

an update to breaking news we've been following in chesapeake this interstate 464 at military highway. we've been telling you about a backup because of a car fire. it appears to be clearing up. emotions are still running high after an officer-involved shooting in virginia beach last year. one family is planning to protest. another is speaking out in defense of police. angelo perry and india kager sat in a car parked outside 7-eleven on lynnhaven parkway just after midnight on september fifth.

approached the vehicle - and perry started shooting. that's when beach police shot back - killing the couple. tomorrow, demonstrators lead by kager's mother, will demand justice. 10 on your side's brandi cummings is here with what she is saying...and why another family says the police shooting was justified. stephanie, we have been following this case for months. let me give you a quick timeline: according to virginia beach police, angelo perry was connected to several crimes including an armed robbery in june, a shooting in july, and the murder of guy cuffee in august. police say cuffee was shot and killed in the green run neighborhood when he went to pick up his daughter for work. a month after that shooting - in september, police shot and killed perry and kager. last week india kager's mother gina best posted this emotional video to her facebook page. in it, she calls for justice for her daughter and angelo perry. two days after that video posted, guy cuffee's daughter

one driver was killed. crews rescued two other people trapped in their cars. the accident caused a massive power outage in the area. investigators say an engine fire caused this school bus to burst into flames. this happened in alabama. the bus driver noticed smoke coming from the front and got all 15 students off the bus before the fire. dylan gackley/escaped bus fire: "we all got off the back of the bus and we went over there and then the whole front of the bus caught on fire, and then then it just all of a sudden went throug the engine, and then the whole bus engulfed in flames." no one was hurt. the bus was at a mechanic's shop just hours before the fire. customers and workers at a texas pizza joint, grabbed anything they could to stop armed men from robbing the place. check out this surviellence video from inside this restaurant. you see one robber with a gun, grabs a woman by the hair while the second robber hits her with a chair. that's when the woman's brother picked up a chair of his own and started swinging.
