about super tuesday. voters in 11 states are at the polls this midday. and that includes virginia. coming into today, both parties had clear front runners. a new national n-b-c national poll shows hillary clinton has an 11 point lead over senator bernie sanders. however, support for sanders is at an all-time high at 41 percent. on the republican side, donald trump has also hit a new high for support among voters. he has 40 percent support of those polled, which is almost double than second place pick marco rubio. ted cruz is third with 18 percent. and the turnouts at the polls have been steady throughout the area all day long, and that continues at midday. 10 on your side's stephanie harris joins us live from a polling spot on balentine boulevard in norfolk. stephanie, how are things going over there? expecting a large turnout. - bring a picture id to the polling place with you. acceptable forms include a drivers

several candidates made stops in hampton roads over the past week to campaign heading in to super tuesday. thousands of people turned out last night to see hillary clinton during a visit to norfolk. hillary clinton - "it is not enough that my granddaughter has opportunities. i want your children and grandchildren to have exactly the same opportunities.. to fulfill their dreams in our great country. and if you help me, that is what i will work on every single day as your president." virginia governor terry mcauliffe introduced mrs. clinton. chopper 10 was above lake taylor high school as the line to get in snaked around the building. on the republican side, doctor ben carson visited regent university yesterday. he sat down with the school's chancellor and c-e-o pat robertson as part of the presidential candidate forum. even though he is far behind donald trump, senator cruz, and senator rubio in the polls, dr. carson said he does not

but should push out through the day with some tuned for updates. new at midday -- a sailor accused of strangling a cat to death pleaded no contest today in virginia beach police arrested and his roommate justin page last year. in april gerarden put a rope around "pirate" the cat's throat and dragged him to death. gerarden pleaded no contest to felony animal cruelty,meaning he admits there was enough evidence to convict him. he will be sentenced in may. page is scheduled for trial on the same charge in two weeks. new at midday, we have two crashes involving e-m-s vehicles to tell you about. the first one happened in newport news overnight. a truck crashed into an ambulance on warwick boulevard near mercury boulevard around one in the morning. the paramedics were treating a patient inside the ambulance when the crash happened. the medics and the patient all went to the

now. the driver of the truck, 65-year-old james davis of chesapeake wasn't hurt. but, police charged him with reckless driving. and two people are in the hospital after the car they were riding in got hit by an ems vehicle. it happened around 9:15 this morning at the intersection of north mall drive and lynnhaven parkway. police say the car was making a left onto north mall drive when the ems vehicle came and hit it. both of the people in the car are expected to recover. now to a follow-up of a deadly fire we first brought to you yesterday morning. last night people gathered at the urbanna baptist church to remember dozier's port urbanna marina. this is video from our sister station in richmond. police are investigating the fire as arson. beth justice sent us this video of the fire that started burning yesterday morning around 4:30. we spoke to friends of the two people who died. she said the victims were living on their boat during a renovation

a man is in jail in texas racially charged shooting at the campaign office of a black county sherriff candidate. wintesses say, last night, the suspect pulled up to the campaign headquarters for zena stephens, shouted profanity and racial slurs, and fired a bullet into the front window of the building. no one was hurt. police think the suspect used a pellet or airsoft gun. they arrested him just a few hours later after pulling him over, and they found two guns in the car.

community groups during the next few days. police in southern california are still looking for a man who lead them on a chase. they say it all started when he kidnapped his girlfriend and children. the chase started yesterday evening in orange county. the driver weaved all over the road, even driving on the wrong side of the street at some points. however, the speed of the chase was slow, and the driver obeyed all red lights and stop signs. the chase ended after two hours, then, the man and police got into a standoff. that ended when the man let his girlfriend and children go. he ran off into the woods and police are still looking for him. here's video of another chase that happened in michigan last week. it all started when michigan state police tried to pull over a u-haul truck for equipment violations. but the men didn't stop, because police say they stole the truck. the chase lasted for miles, and even after the truck ran over spike strips, the two men

of the car, so she won't be charged. we have more incredible video to show you. a horse fell into a river in oregon and rescuers had to pull it out. it took them three hours to pull the horse to 15 feet down an embankment and into the water. rescuers used a life raft and attached a harness to the horse to pull it to safety using a rope. the horse did not seem to be hurt, because as soon as it got out of the water, it started walking. the owner escorted it back to the trailer and took it home. a big name comedian is in trouble with the law. police in georgia arrested katt williams a police spokesman says officer were called to a pool supply store. when they got there, they saw williams lying on the ground outside. a police sergeant said williams had his hands behind his back the whole time, waiting to be arrested. the store employee told police he and

argument, and williams threw something at him and punched him. williams, who has starred in comedy specials and the movie "friday after next", is charged with battery. a ukranian man appeared in court in pennsylvania monday. he is accused of using a fake identity so he could pose as a high school student. 23-year-old artur samarin admits he used a fake birth certificate and social security card to get into harrisburg high school using the fake name, asher potts. he went to the school for four years and became a member of the r-o-t-c and was a straight a student. samarin says he did it because he wanted a better opportunity in life than he would have in the ukraine. brother, devine stringfield, and her 50-year-old boyfriend, larry turner. the three were inside a mobile home when the deadly sot c 28 trenika stringfield - lost three loved ones in tornado 13:12:31 "i feel like and i know that we serve a wonderful god i do know that and i know i know that they in a better place i know that they're gonna be better." eight others were hurt in the storm - including trenika. she is now staying with wavy-dot- com. a man faces charges after crashing his car into a train in chesapeake. we can show the scene chopper 10 captured last night. this happened on yadkin road, between george washington highway and i-64. police say the 60-year-old driver was not badly hurt.

see the train coming. officers charged him with driving without a license. investigators say there are no flashing lights or crossing arms at this intersection because it's a feeder rail. another driver faces charges in norfolk after police say he hit two children in a crosswalk. this happened yesterday afternoon at the intersection of chesapeake boulevard and dudley avenue. police say the driver was trying to turn left onto dudley avenue when he hit a seven-year-old and nine-year-old. the children went to c-h-k-d and should be okay. jesse matthew junior is expected to plead guilty in the kidnapping and murder cases of two virginia college students. our affliate station in charlottesville reports he'll enter the plea tomorrow in albemarle county. matthew is charged in hannah graham and morgan harrington's murders. without the plea agreement, he could have faced the death penalty. matthew is already serving life in prison for a sexual assault in fairfax county. democratic state senator don mceachin filed the

congress in virginia's 4th district. that seat is currently held by republican u-s representative randy forbes. mceachin is an african american personal injury lawyer who is head of the democratic caucus in the state senate. this all has to do with the redrawn lines in the 4th district. a panel of judges changed it, and now the district includes large areas of democratic voters. we told you earlier this year representative forbes is now vying for the second district. congressman scott rigell holds the seat right now, but says he's stepping down at the end of his term. now to a story you'll only see only on 10. lawmakers in richmond disagree over a toll bill designed to protect you. it calls for free passage - meaning not all lanes cannot be tolled. that would affect crossings like the h- r-b-t and the monitor merrimac. the bill also calls for better electronic notification of unpaid tolls and capping fines. however tomorrow, this bill could die because not everyone

breaking news from newport news a building is on fire on 35th street near roanoke avenue. fire crews tell us a firefighter fell through part of the roof - because it was rotting. you can see firefighters walking on the roof to get to the fire in this 10 on your side viewer video. we're told he fell up to his waist - and he's not hurt. they got him out. crews say the call came in just before 11-30 this morning. the building is a drug treatment - support

to get it under control now. we have a crew on the way to the scene. 5, 4,3, 2, 1 lift off. a successful launch for nasa from the pad at wallops island. the multiple user suborbital instrument carrier, or music was sent up into space this morning. this launch has been delayed and rescheduled several times because of weather and payload issues. the rocket carried engineering projects and experiments from west virginia university, developed through a nasa program at the school. nasa astronaut scott kelly is getting ready to come hom later today. he has been at the international space station longer than any other astronaut ever. his current mission has lasted almost a year. kelly says he is feeling good as he prepares for his flight back. after he lands, he'll go to houston where doctors and scientists will perform tests on him.

mission in space. . meanwhile, here on earth, nasa is investing in a supersonic passenger plane. nasa granted a 20-million dollar contract to lockheed martin to develop a passenger jet that can go faster than the speed of sound. nasa says the plan is intended to make flying faster, safer, greener, and quieter. the jet would use technology to create a soft thump instead of rattling sonic booms while in flight. this will be the first supersonic passenger jet developed in more than a decade. the original supersonic passenger plane, the concorde was grounded because planes were too expensive to maintain. popular sportscaster erin andrews was on the stand yesterday. she fought off tears as she gave testimony in a civil suit against a hotel and a man who spied on her. andrews filed a 75-million dollar lawsuit against the marriott in nashville. back in 2009, michael barrett stalked her and posted nude videos on the internet he filmed through a peephole in her

"si se puede, si se puede" the chants you heard there are fans from the opposing school saying "si se puede," which is spanish for "yes we can!" the person who took the video says fans from the predominantly latino school were responding to racist things shouted by fans of the other team. the witness says she heard chants like "build a wall" and "please speak english." howard says: "(covered by above still frame) ...had the bolded t and e as in deport. 10-20mph with gusts to 30mph. we'll see a nice day today for super tuesday voters. clouds will increase this afternoon, but temps will be comfortable. it will be a little cooler near the shore. tonight, some showers move in along a weak area of low pressure & cold front...mainly after midnight. the showers will continue into tomorrow morning, but should push out through the day with some clearing. we'll be dry and much cooler on thursday with highs in the mid 40s. a quick moving system will move into the region thursday night into friday morning. it is expected to bring a wintry mix to the area. at this point it looks to move through very fast with little impact. the system is still far away in time, but it could potentially bring a little light snow to part of the region north of the soutside...stay tuned. it will move out by late friday morning with dry weather for the rest of friday and saturday. stay

members of a basketball team in rhode island thought they had the title won. but they should have probably listened to the old saying: don't count your chickens before they've hatched. check it out. burrill-ville high school played chariho high school for the rhode island state title sunday. chariho inbounds the ball burrillville player throws the ball in the air expecting time to run out. but, a chariho player catches the ball and called timeout before the clock expires. that set up this final play -- a long toss toward the basket and a quick tip in. chariho won the game 60-59 and the title, handing heartbreak
