it is a chilly start out there danielle. >> similar to this time yesterday. so if you are waking up, the wind won't be as strong as yesterday. it's calm in spots and frost out the door this morning. 18 in norwood. 31 in boston right now. a big range in temperatures on cape cod. a lot of it has to do with that wind. where it's gone calm, that's where we're coldest. quiet travel weather, which is fantastic news. leave a couple of extra minutes to scrape the windshield. bright and cool, 44 at the lunchtime. 40 degrees for the ride home. it doesn't matter where you are going across new england or the northeast. 40s for a lot of us, but 50s when you get to new york city to philly. we'll talk about thanksgiving coming up. let's get to the roads. traffic and weather together. it's quiet right now, robi. >> hopefully you are at your thanksgiving location. if not, good luck on the roads today on the second busiest

travel day of the year. it's quiet out there except for one accident south of the city. the crash is at exit 14. it's early so we're not seeing any kind of backup down there just yet. breaking news overnight. an nfl player shot. rams' wide receiver stedman bailey is in critical but stable condition. bailey was shot while sitting in a car in miami guardens, florida. report -- miami guard gardens, florida. we're following a developing story in chicago. police and protesters clashing on the streets. this was hours after the release of dash cam video showing a white police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times. that officer is now facing murder charges. >> this morning, chicago

parents are calling for calm in the city of chicago. nicole jacobs is live in the satellite center with the latest. >> the shooting happened in october of last year. it's coming to light again and sparking protests as we get a closer look at the disturbing dash cam video for the first time. police dash cam video shows the moments at the center of tension in chicago. 17-year-old la kwon mcdonald, two police officers approaching. shot. 15 more would come, including to mcdonald's head and chest while he was on the ground. hundreds filled the streets in protest. chanting 16 shots, they marched for the most part peacefully. >> people have a right to be angry. people have a right to protest. people have a right to free speech, but they do not have a right to commit criminal acts.

>> reporter: the officer is now charged with first-degree murder. >> people will judge the split second actions of my client, however, the standard in this case is, what was my client experiencing at the time he made this split second decision to fire? >> reporter: mcdonald was known to have been carrying a knife and wanted in connection with a burglary at a freight yard. mcdonald was found to have pcp in his system. as for the officer, he has a history of 18 complaints against him involving excessive force and racial slurs. he was reportedly never disciplined for the complaints. in the satellite center, nicole jacobs, wbz news this morning. a former chelsea police officer admitted to punching a handcuffed man. the suffolk d.a. released video of the incident. felix rivera, jr. hit the victim four times in the face knocking him to the ground. the victim who suffered

multiple injuries to his face, was detained for being intoxicated. yesterday, the judge sentenced him to three years' probation and anger management. he has already resigned from the department. if you are traveling for thanksgiving, chances are you are heading out today. today is typically the second busiest travel day of the year, only second to yesterday, which was a tough ride out there. susie steimle is live along the mass pike in natick. susie, that is one of the worst spots to be to get stuck in traffic this holiday season. >> reporter: that's true but not right now. it's good after 5:00. a steady flow of traffic probably a little more than we usually see. right now is a good time if you are thinking about getting out on the road. as you mentioned, chris, yesterday was supposed to be the worst travel day for drivers. today might be slightly better

whether it's the pike, 93, or 128, the holiday lights are glowing red as travelers hit the road for thanksgiving. >> heavy volume between 6:00 and 9:00. >> reporter: inside the mass d.o.t. operation center, they tried to mitt date the inevitable mess, but there's little they can change about these bottlenecks living up to their namesake. >> i'd like to watch my estimated time of arrival just get longer and farther away. >> reporter: drivers do their best to stay positive and for them. 47 million people will travel for thanksgiving this holiday season. 42 million are in their cars. aaa predicts lower gas prices had a lot to do with that decision. >> overall, traffic hasn't been as bad as i thought. >> reporter: amanda and her daughter chose the recommended time for travel and it paid off. officials urge you to stay outside the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8 p.m. >> we've only come to a complete stop twice, so that's good.

>> reporter: tuesday was expected to eclipse wednesday as far as traffic was concerned. a little farther down the road, we'll learn if that prediction turned out to be true. we're giving you a live look now at the allston brighton tolls. this is something that might brighten up your holiday travel day. there is an opportunity for freebies there this morning from 7:00 through 8:00 in the morning. they will be waiving toll fees at that location and handing out cards for a dunkin' donuts free coffee. if you are at home thinking of debting out on the roads, that may give you motivation if you are in that area to travel between 7:00 and 8:00. we're live in natick, susie steimle, wbz this morning. >> free coffee is never a bad thing. thank you very much. in light of the paris terror attacks, president obama will meet with national security advisors again today urging them to step up efforts against isis even over the holidays. the white house says there are

against the u.s. still, the state department has cairned everyone to be -- warned everyone to be vigilant while traveling, especially in large crowds and public places. meanwhile, police say the ringleader of the deadly paris attacks was planning more violence when he was killed in a raid. they say he was planning a suicide attack in paris in the financial district there. before he was killed, officials say he returned to the bataclan theater and restaurant to see the carnage. a deadly crash at a natick shopping center is now under investigation. an elderly driver crashed into three pedestrians. one. men has since died. the other two are in the hospital. police say the woman in her 80s was driving pretty fast for a parking lot. >> we heard this tremendous noise, you know, metal being, you know, crunched. we witnessed a car that had come around the corner. we saw it change directions and

store. we thought it was going to impact the front of the store. >> police say the elderly woman, herself, was injured and distraught. they are now looking into whether she suffered some is the of medical emergency. right now, a search under way for a dorchester man accused of killing a woman and setting her poddy on fire. the d -- her body on fire. the victim's bound and burned body was found near railroad tracks earlier this month. the d.a. says owens believed the woman had something to do with his son's death. >> cell phone records show there were 13 phone calls between miss boredner and mr. owen the day ashley was killed. state police have additionally seized several items at owens' home in dorr chester that link him to the -- dorchester that link him to the murder. >> two others were also charged

eyewitnesses hold the key to cracking the burglaries in their neighborhood. each time the thieves were after small items, electronics, jewelry, cash, and one case a gun. >> these were actually forced entries. windows or doors with are pried or kicked. that's how entry was made. >> reporter: police say the robberies happened during the daylight hours which means there are witnesses. they are looking for at least three men. two white, one black in a dark colored suv. two fantasy sports sites will be in court today. new york's attorney general is trying to stop fan duel and draftkings from doing business in new york arguing the sites are illegal. the "new york times" says both sites started blocking users from states where fantasy sports betting is already illegal. two cars used in ben affleck's new film reported

there was just a bit of a breeze yesterday. it's calm in most spots, but that has allowed for spots to develop. 19 in keene. same in canton this morning. a lot of the rest of us are running in the 20s and the skies are clear. we're in for mostly sunny skies through the day today. the nation on a whole is quiet, too. we have snow pushing through north dakota, montana, idaho. there is a disturbance coming in that will bring in know through the rockies, cascades and central plains. for us, though, that blue h, high pressure fair weather and control. the fair weather cheese the northeast and mid-atlantic. tomorrow thanksgiving we start with low clouds. the wind is coming in from the south tomorrow and picks up some of the low-level moisture. our highs today will be in the 40s but tomorrow we manage mid-

there is a growing trend in many professions so hire younger employees who are less expensive. >> this morning, jon keller takes a closer look at why experience should matter more. >> reporter: good morning. if you are a sports fan, you are probably still buzzing about mopped night's patriots game and the atrocious display of incompetence of the referees. members of the officiating crew either didn't know the rules or were so inexperienced, they were going by college rules instead of the professional ones. professional. that's the key word here. amazingly, given the scrutiny and amount of money involved,

officials who have other jobs during the week. so much for all of that rhetoric from league executives about their commitment to the integrity of the game. that's not the only industry where part timers and amateurs are handling jobs that really ought to be filled with full- time professions. look at journalism where you are increasingly likely to get your news from someone without basic reporting skills or an experienced editor scrutinizing the work. and how about rank amateurs are all of the rage in politics despite the disappointing performances by two underexperienced presidents in a row. there's no what i to say this without sounding to some like an old coot shouting to get off his lawn so i'm going to go for it. experience matters. it can be the antidote to panic

bailey is currently sevenning a four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. tensions remain high in chicago following a night of unrest. protesters marched through the streets clashing with police at times after graphic video showed a white police officer shooting a black teen 16 times killing him. the veteran officer is being charged with murder. chilling moments for a brockton teen when she finds an intruder in her home. she was home alone when she heard glass breaking. a burglar was breaking into the house and ransacking the bedrooms. that's when the teenager decided to hide and called 911. >> reporter: what room are you? >> i'm in the bathroom. >> is the door locked? >> no, there's no lock on the door. >> i was like, i have to try to maintain myself because if he hears me, that might not be

with first-degree murder in this case. coming up at 6:00, van dike's attorney is speaking out as well as the police superintendent. in the satellite center, nicole jacobs, wbz news this morning. authorities say a norton man found dead in his home died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. police responded to the home saturday night. they say amare fired several shots through the front door. one officer returned fire a short time later. police heard a single shot from inside of the house. an unlikely discovery at a church if ativity scene out of queens, new york. a newborn baby boy found wrapped up in hey manger. police believe the poi was about four hours old when a church custodian found him. the church is considered a safe haven which means a newborn can be dropped off. because no one was notified,

whomever left him there could face charges. massachusetts is full of college kids and the state is looking to help them get out from a mountain of debt. a dedicated unit helps students who have fallen behind on the payments. the a.g.'s office is also cracking down on companies that charge excessive fees or mislead bureauers. monitoring what's likely going to be another tough travel day this day before thanksgiving. there's expected to be 47 million americans traveling over the next couple of days for thanksgiving. 42 million of them will be driving this season. officials say the worst time to be out on the roads in massachusetts is between 4:00 and 8:00 this evening. so try to avoid that if you can. we have more tips about what might make your day easier coming up at 6:00. for now, we're live in natick,

susie steimle, wbz this morning. it is 5:51. time for our "daily talker." >> when you order something from amazon, do you ever wonder how many people it takes to get your package delivered? >> some of the workers will be on the job tomorrow while you are eating your thanksgiving turkey. at least one employee thinks that's wrong. here's robi with her story. >> reporter: chris, there are blue laws in massachusetts that say retailers have to close on thanksgiving and christmas. we spoke to a woman who works to are amazon who works in a warehouse. camille works part time sorting packages in stoughton where orders are processed and shipped out. she didn't get a holiday tomorrow because amazon believes this facility is not a retail store but rather a transportation hub where factages are loaded and unloaded onto trucks. therefore, amazon believes they are exempt from massachusetts blue laws.
