from the north paid the price. maintenance crews hammering away at the commuter rail track in lawrence, a short distance way from a disabled train. the train derailed this morning clogging the line for hours. around 1:00 p.m. it was back up right and slowly rolling away. done. damage to the morning commute reputation. >> this is the second failure between lawrence and andover this year. i think they could be better prepared. >> commuters had to be bussed between lawrence and the andover stop where they were able to get back on board for the trip into boston. this after one day after the t unveiled a plan to raise fares. >> accidents happen. there is nothing they can do about a derailment.

isn't what i want when i am standing out in 8 degrees. >> reporter: the commuter rail operator says the derailment was caused by a track failure of some kind. the nbta late today had an update. >> i want people to understand being prepared for winter does not mean there will be no service disruption whatsoever. cold weather makes tracks brittle and they are more likely to experience problems. >> reporter: tonight the line through andover is back open and, yes, truth be told, cold weather does create track problems in transit systems but these days the nbta is under microscope and everybody has a low threshold. >> jim, thank you. developing news tonight. police are investigating a suspicious death off 290 in auburn. a man's body was found. sources say there was reports that someone was thrown from a car or pushed down an embankment. we will bring you updates when we get them.

terrible scare when a car being towed broke free and hit them. the bmw was under tow behind a flatbed wrecker when the car came lose, crossed park avenue and hit the small bus. there were two kids on board. they are both okay but that wasn't the end of it. a salon. yeah, very scary. i thought it would hit me. luckily i'm fine. i'm shaky. >> police say it's likely the towing company will be cited for not properly securing the car before it broke loose. scary moments for passengers when the plane went washington. take a look. officials say the united flight was taking off for denver when it took an odd turned. that's how it was described, then hit a snowbank. none of the 166 passengers nor seven crew members were hurt. the runway is open tonight. a school will reopen tomorrow after a natural gas leak forced kids and staff out

we will bring in cloud cover. the wind starts to turn off the ocean. that will keep temps near 40 and chillier with less sunshine. for the weekend, we are tracking two systems. the first is weak. it arrives late friday into saturday. it will be just enough cold air so there is the potential of freezing drizzle. sleet or mix in the interior. mainly outside of 495, something that we will monitor through the week. too warm for the boston area south and east. it would be rain. the next storm system, this west. that is a warm storm track for us. although it may be more powerful storm, if it gets more warm air. the bottom line sunday's storm is looking like mainly rain. here is the albuquerque seven day. saturday. sunday, if the storm goes far enough west, well into the 50s. record high 56. we may be in the ballpark to end the weekend.
