course at boylston street in boston. sound familiar? hope so. 75% of the possible come by neighs were schlecked so now next wednesday's powerball jackpot is expected to reach $1.3 billion. in other news this morning, two boys have been pulled from an icy pond. one is in critical cal condition. a 9-year-old and 12-year-old fell into icy water. the younger boy was pull to safety. emergency crews rescued the younger boy and performed cpr. police arrested a driver suspected in a deadly hit-and- run yesterday in worcester. 21-year-old vincent green of west boylston is charge with motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene, and other counts. police said green was driving rememberingslessly when he hit a 56-year-old man and never stopped. that man later died at the hospital.

police officer in philadelphia charge with attempted murder. edward archer claimed he fired 13 shot into the officer's car for i.s.i.s. the officer was hit three times but shot back. he is hospitalize and recovering. the tipster who raised questions about juror at the aaron hernandez trial has been ruled unreliable, claimed she worked with a juror who knew hernandez was charged with a double murder in boston. it was not permissible as evidence when hernandez was on trial for the murder of odin lloyd but a judge ruled the tipster as unreliable. hernandez is awaiting trial on charges. boston mayor walsh wants city hall to be more transparent and wants lobiests required to make their efforts to influence city hall public. he is modeling the city's

due in court on monday. reporting outside of boston medical center, wbz news. in other news, the good man who ambushed a police officer in philadelphia is charged with attempted murder. investigators say edward archer claimed he fired 13 shots into the officer's car for isis. the officer was hit three times but managed to shoot back. he's now hospitalized and recovering. the tipster who raised questions about a juror at the arraign hernandez murder trial has been ruled unreliable. that tipster claimed she worked with a juror in the trial who knew herns was also charged with -- hernandez was also boston. that was not admissible in evidence when he was on trial for murder. but the judge has ruled the tipster is not credible. marty walsh wants city hall to be more transparent. the globe is reporting the mayor wants regulations on lobbyists.

welcome back to our conversation with the newly elected president of the boston city council, michelle wu. anxious americans have been such an integral part of the for so long. why aren't there more prominent asian americans? >> i am the second-ever to serve on the council. our china thattown is one of the oldest across the country. one of the chinese schools there has been in china town for 96 years, now. serving residents. so, you know, there are -- >> are there cultural reasons? >> when i was growing up i never imagined running for office. i think a big part of that was not seeing anyone who looked like me in government. i was told all the time to

michelle kwan was such a popular figure, asian american woman. i hope the younger generation does look around, the younger generation from every background, seeing a diverse representation in our government today, and can envision themselves stepping up. >> i know for some groups, particularly newer immigrants there is a feeling of lay low, fit in, politics is sharp-elbow time, don't cause a stir. has that been a factor also? >> certain fly my family that was the attitude towards politics. my parents immigrated from taiwan and their parents had immigrated from china to the island of taiwan during the civil war. and, for them, politics represented even more than war, and -- >> yeah. >> and a lot of discord. so, they wanted me to pursue a certain.

>> and you ignored their advice. speaking of sharp elbows. historically in the city, the mayor and city council have -- swopt to call it an actuarial relationship but -- i don't want to call -- i don't want to call it an adversarial relationship. but what needs to be improved? >> they have been great. what i appreciate about mayor walsh is his emphasis in terms of relating to the council has always been on communication rather than agreement or forcing a certain view. so, we have -- over the last term in office together, had a great record of collaboration, and that partnership between the mayor and the city council has resulted in, i think, the elevation of city government overall. we have seen landmark legislateyn like paid parental leave introduced in boston and environmental regulations and immigration regulations that put boston in the national spotlight.

you were not one who was rah- rah about the summer olympics coming here is that right? >> i was -- i was very concerned about the impact on our city's finances, about the -- the timeframe and i think, many residents felt the same way. >> has the mayor learned his lesson from that debacle? >> i think the conversation was great for boston and for the region to have and -- we as a city, always need to be thinking big. so, i don't think in any way is a debacle and something boston should regret but we embarked on a visioning process for the city. we came to the realization that this would not be in the best interest for boston financially and for our future. and we are no longer a bid city. >> councilor, we look forward to having you here again. thank you and congratulations. that was the friendly interview. the next one, all bets are off. good to have you. >> thank you, john. >> boston city council
