another nor'easter as this storm is finally binding downright -- winding downright now. we are live but we begin with pamela right now. >> good morning. the last few snow flakes are squeezing out of the clouds at this time. that's where the light snow showers are lingering. they are not going to stick around for too much longer. we have a clear sky over boston right now. the vineyard, chatham still seeing light snow flakes. this will continue to move out over the next 20 minutes or so. hour by hour forecast. a couple of clouds linger. we are dry and no additional snow moving in. temperatures will be in the upper 20s this afternoon. winder storm warnings posted for the islands until 7:00 a.m..

-- bit of time to dig out from this heavy snow. slay experiencing wind and coastal issues too, danielle. >> reporter: yeah, the pockets of minor to moderate flooding. the wind is still pretty gusty out here. i have to say the roteds are in pretty good shape as long as you take it slow. the know is down here but we had just about a foot. what did boston end up with? it had a little band as it came up. they reported 6.1 inches of snow. how does it compare to a normal season? we have nearly 20 inches at this point. the total so far is 10.4. some other totals on the

it is 14.5 and oak bluff picking up over a foot. you go north and west of boston, no, this is not a joke. nothing here and ending up with no snow. it was what we talked about all week with sharp cut-off. still gusting over 30 miles per hour at times. it kind of caked on everything. it had near 0 visibility at times. i'm making some snow angels and having snowball fights, things like that. >> sounds fun to me. i'm sure you'll be doing some soon too. thank you.

canceled. canceled. airlines starting monday's service there were 600 monday flights grounded. the high winds combined with high tide to rip up the anxiety of homeowners. >> reporter: we were very lucky. >> reporter: she says the early saturday high tide came up over the sea wall. thanks to protection the house is safe. >> this is what my husband did to protect the house this year. we feel really safe. we don't think any waves will get through it. >> reporter: the wind was howling all night long, blowing snow bands in off of the atlantic.

we have more on how the city faired in this blizzard. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. take a look behind me at what's left behind. people saw between 18 and 30 inches of snow just north of here in baltimore. it is the biggest storm on record. here in washington d. c. it is the fourth biggest storm. it is clear it will take time getting back to normal. >> reporter: a major snowstorm hammered the northeast. it was noticeably quieter saturday night. the national weather service says more than 2 feet of snow fell in the big apple. >> this is a storm that is packing a lot of punch. major coastal flooding and philadelphia could get up to 2 feet of snow by the time the

>> it is well beyond the idea of winter wonderland. there is no romance to a blizzard in my mind. >> reporter: the bus was finally freed after being stranded on the pennsylvania turnpike since the storm hit friday night. high winds caused blinding white out conditions in the nation's capital. a pair of pickup trucks to tow a ladder truck out of the jam. crews couldn't clear roads. side trees were out of the question and officials warned that could slow 911 response times. >> our interest is in our public safety being able to get our city back open. >> reporter: the storm also stranded travelers and more than 10,000 flights were canceled. and back out here live now you

crews did a good job trying to stay ahead of the storm. there is still much work to do here in terms of clearing the roadways. up and down the coast the deaths of at least 19 people linked to the storm. already several school districts in this area have canceled classes for tomorrow. it was quite the storm. >> thank you so much for that update. now to our other top story, the winner punching a ticket to the super bowl. they lost to denver back in november. peyton manning did not play in that game. they were on the losing end of the game against manning in denver two years ago. what is so tough about playing out there? >> we played a lot of good

welcome back. this is ocean city new jersey where the high tide brought flooding to the island. ocean water began to flow into the streets and then began to freeze. pamela is here to tell us what's going on. it looks like our flakes are headed on out finally. >> this last little system starting to pull out here. even the last few clouds are

you can see the cut off here with completely clear sky. you didn't have any snow. to the south and east heavy snow totals across cape cod. accumulation. completely. temperatures in the low 20s. it is colder than it could be because of the snow pack. more clouds move into if picture but no big systems moving our way. another thing we are still concerned about, even though the storm is out of here there is still a coastal flood warning as we get onto nantucket. high tide around 11:00 a.m. this morning. danielle is bracing all of that heavy snow.

>> reporter: and it is not nearly as strong as it was before. the wind is still gusting over 30 miles per hour. believe it or not we verified blizzard conditions in eastern massachusetts yesterday in several spots. let's take a look here including the vineyard and nantucket and including at the immediate coastline. keep in mind, even if you don't have the highest snowfall totals it is all about the wind speed. you need speeds of 35 miles per hour or greater. here is the key, less than a quarter of a mile for three consecutive hours or more. the current wind gusts have died down.

want to be bundled up. it is in the teens back down here to the cape. we have our wbz commemorative snow stick. it is pretty windy out here. it is hard to measure. this is one little drift. in some of the wide open areas we have about 10 inches here. there is a lot out here. it is the wet sticky snow. >> interesting. we did have a lot of power outages, all of that weight too. your cars make sure you get all of that snow off of your car so it's not blowing to your friend behind you. it will take time to get road crews to clear all of that since you did have so much. we did have 6.1 inches of snow.

it kind of tells the story from coastline. look at this, nantucket and hurricane forces at 73 miles per hour gusts. rock port picking up gusts over 50. given the strength of the wind i'm surprised there wasn't more outages. winds are still gusting but it's not nearly as strong as yesterday but still adding chill. we just had about a half hour ago can, they are doing a great job and most are without power. next thing we're going to watch is the tide if it comes up for minor pocket and coastal flooding. back to you ! all right. thank you so much. half a foot of snow in boston is enough to cause slick streets. most people took this storm in

for the blizzard bunnie s. in maryland they go down in history with 29. 29.2-inch of snow here. that beat the old record. we are wait are if the latest stats because they are so close at getting the record for biggest snowstorm on record. we'll see if the it comes down any time soon. when it comes down we'll let you know. >> reporter: notice this morning all of that snow is pushing off of the islands. we have a couple of flurries but no more snow accumulation for today. skies continue to be nice and bright and clear and very very bright with sunshine reflecting off of the snow. temperatures not warming up too much. by 5:00 p.m. a few clouds rolling into the forecast. wind gusts are pretty strong in some locations.

and south shore too. marsh field and plymouth had to verify blizzard conditions. quarter of a mile or less visibility, frequent gusts of over 35 miles an hour for three consecutive hours or more and we had had four hours. two inches so far. they've only had 8.6 inches. boston we're now up to 10.4 with yesterday's 6.1. our average is 20. it's just rare that you have somewhere like boston with more snow, with you it was the sharp -- but it was the sharp cut off that we were talking about. jackpot here open the cape. i know there is going to be cleanup. it's bend at the knees because it's heavy, wet snow this morning. >> and definitely take breaks. you don't have to do it all at

the system, waking up to a clear and cold start to the day. satellite radar pictures show everything out by noon. near freezing for the high temperatures, but it's deceiving sunshine because it's so chilly. the winds subside a bit, a little bit of a gust to the north stays, especially on the cape and islands. danielle is live in sandwich. that's where we had the jackpot zone, but you're also tracking the wind and concern for coastal flooding later on. >>reporter: it is a snowy scene, pamela, absolutely. we've got a foot in parts of the cape, over that in a few communities.

it's on the signs and lamp posts. we're in sandwich. the marina is right behind me and the wind has been subsiding slowly. it is not nearly like what we had yesterday. current wind still gusting in spots. over 30 miles per hour in some spots and still isolated gusts over 40. i think the biggest factor with that this morning is there is no more damage to be done. the wind is not damaging, but it's adding that bite to the air. so the wind real, the real feel is running in the single digits and teens. it cuts right through you. want to be bundled up. eastern massachusetts, as we approach high tide, will see pockets of minor coast willal flooding and splashover. high tide coming up just after 11 a.m. so from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

eric had a live shot in sandwich and the conditions went from literally nothing to practically whiteout in about 20 minutes. traveling down from boston along route 3, snow started in plymouth. that's when conditions started to go downhill. like a wall of snow came in with that gusty wind. last evening was just impressive. we had tropical storm force gusts, hurricane gusts on nantucket. that visibility went to zero really fast and we started to see things go downhill on the cape. we had plow trucks come by, less than 1,000 customers without power this morning, which is great news given the strong wind gusts, pamela. the hope is that over the next couple of hours, the rest of the customers will have power restored. there goes the plow truck right behind us. they've been doing a good job. just take it slow on the roads and everybody should be a okay.

especially to east coast hubs. at least 600 flights nationwide planned for monday have been grounded. the city of boston for the most part got off easy comparatively. some areas saw about six inches of snow, though. and roads and streets are still pretty treacherous while plows and sanders are trying to do their best work. strong winds and high tides caused severe problems up and down the east coast. streets along the jersey shore were flooded out. this was the scene along the new jersey shore in margate city. that was one of the areas that hurricane sandy devastated back in 2012. baltimore also hit pretty hard. the city was digging out from nearly two oh, feet of snow. some people getting around on snowmobiles.

blizzard verified here on cape cod. several spots verified blizzard conditions from the cape and islands and up to the south shore as well. nantucket in the vineyard stretching up to marsh field. keep in mind it's three hours consecutive in a row visibility quarter of a mile or less. the vineyard and nantucket had four hours sustained of 35 miles per hour gusts or greater and blizzard conditions. 15.3 inches here. 13.3 on oak bus. sandwich with a foot and born 10 inches of snow. pretty impressive. it's wet and sticky as well. we're talking about the boston comparison too.
