a couple of showers left over this morning. one sprinkle just past east of chat am a.m. -- chatham. they're hugging bristol county. so i'll keep the threat for a shower in across eastern massachusetts. otherwise, partial clearing comes in by the time we get to the afternoon. temperatures mid to upper 60s right now. 69 in boston, 67 in manchester. there's fog in spots, particularly north and west of boston. it's locally thick. quarter mile visibility enter wooster and bedford right now. so just something to be aware of as you head out the door for your commute. others we rise out of the 60s, 78 by midday, increasing sunshine, a lingering shower along the south coast through midday and then warm and a bit humid. >> breaking news overnight. crews are working to repair a water main break in chelsea. this is on revere beach parkway

westbound side and repair could take about eight hours. we have two accidents that you should know about. the biggest concern will be at the braintree split. there is stop and go traffic now back to exit 17. this will only slow you down between 5 and 10 minutes, but you know how busy that area can get. there's also another accident right now on 95 north in canton. it's blocking the shoulder at exit 12 before 128 and traffic is backed up to exit the afghan immigrant suspected of setting off bombs in new york and new jersey may have referenced the boston hair thon bombers. according to cnn, a handwritten note found next to one of the bombs contained rambles that referenced previous terrorists. a source tells cbs news, rahami is not cooperating. >> he's now charged in connection with liz capture and that shootout. rahami, a u.s. citizen faces five counts of attempted murder of police officers. he's still in the hospital this

that arrest. he's being held on $5.2 million bail as prosecutors consider what charges to file against him. cbs' hannah daniels has the very latest on this morning on the investigation. >> reporter: rahami is in custody this morning facing five counts of attempted murder of police officers and gun charges. this cell phone video shows the 28 year old handcuffed and laying on the ground in linden, new jersey, yesterday. president obama york for the u.n. general assembly preyed officers. >> it's just one more reminder of the extraordinary skill and sacrifice and courage of our law enforcement officers. >> reporter: authorities say they've directly linked rahami to saturday's explosions in both new york city and new jersey. and connected this tim -- him to five more bombs found sunday night near a new jersey train station. they're also looking into

terror groups, a senior law enforcement official tells cbs news, rahami traveled to his native afghanistan at least three times in the last two years. he also visited pakistan. as the investigation continues to unfold, people who live here along the street where the bomb went off are returning home. and businesses are back open once again. >> all we could do is be vigilant and clean up the mess. >> this is not a block you would think of as a target. it's not time square or the world trade center or grand happened here. >> reporter: officials say there is no indication of an extremist cell operating in the area and believe rahami acted alone. han i can't daniels, cbs news. meanwhile, here in massachusetts, officials are stepping up security patrols. nicole jacobs is live at south station this morning with more on that. nicole. >> reporter: kate, the bomb that was planted in elizabeth, new jersey was right here a

in massachusetts are stepping up patrols at locations like south station. experts say the issue of lone wolf terrorists is now the unfortunate new normal. massachusetts residents know the terror all too well. it was three years ago pressure cooker bombs went off at the marathon finish line. >> it's just a sign of the times that we live in. >> reporter: wbz' security analyst ed davis was the police commissioner then. a part of t lone wolf terrorists. >> isis has been very effective in activating people that are fringe players here, people with mental health problems, people who are upset with the government. >> reporter: ahmad khan rahami now in custody after allegedly setting off and planting bombs in new york and new jersey. a u.s. citizen who had traveled to afghanistan in the past, authorities say, questioned upon each return but never on a watch list radar. the bombs he allegedly designed

the hard decisions to take terrorists off the battlefield. >> we have seen how failures to screen, who is entering the united states, puts all of our citizens, everyone in this room, at danger. >> national security will be one of three topics at next week's first presidential debate. we'll bring you live coverage of it monday night right here. breaking news overseas this morning. there's been eight new arrests in connection to aru 86 people were killed in the bastille day in nice. prosecutors say the eight men arrested are french and at that nearbyian. isis claimed responsibility for the july attack when a truck plowed into a crowd. also breaking overnight a plane put in isolation after a distress call. officials now say it was a false call. the flight crew admitted they made a mistake sending that emergency message. the captain told the control

hijacking was in progress was pushed accidentally. th a developing story in maynard, there will be extra security at all public schools today after a threat against school buses there. wbz's anna meiler is live in maynard with a closer look at that investigation. anna. . >> reporter: and chris, that threat was in the form of messages scribbled on shot 51 shell found in front of a local woman's home. so even though police believe this threat is most likely a hoax they're seriously. they say a re-dez dent called them to report a bag of shotgun shells on the sidewalk in front of heifer house. messages were scribbled referencing terrorism and a bomb planted on a bus. police alettered the fusion center and federal authorities. the state police bomb squad thoroughly searched the vicinity and all four of the town's school buses. investigators say no danger was

behind this threat. even if a hoax, this incident falls under terroristic threats. they're urging anyone with information to give them a call. reporting live from maynard, anna meiler, wbz this morning. new this morning, school officials responding to concerns about student safety at wilmington high school as a teacher returns to work there. the superintendent says anthony altieri is returning to his position as the gym teacher there. of teach. he was placed on paid administrative leave for several days after allegations of tow mess tick assault. a 911 problem. resident in huntington and chester couldn't call 911 from their landlines for several hours yesterday. state police were urging people to use their cell phones instead. now they say 911 service for landlines has been restored. still no word on what caused that outage. he may be town with a

these showers move through. there is a visibility quarter of a mile. it's thick in bedford for the fog. wooster, quarter of a mile visibility. so the fog is thickest north and west of town. advisability is doing from boston to the cape. 69 in boston right now. same in chatham. upper 60s from laurens to manchester and keene. wooster sitting at 63. temperatures will be in the 80s by later on today. you notice the clouds that are in place right now. but there's been clearing coming england and that is going to be working in our direction during the day today. what's happening here is the front that came through yesterday, it's now stalling out, it's not moving so we need something to kick it out of here. this cold front back through the midwest is going to do that later on today. it will also drag in less humid air during the day for our wednesday. so look at this, between now, late morning, chance of a shower out over cape cod, may linger on the outer cape. the trend will be for gradually increasing sunshine it may take

we may get some late-day peeks. but north and west boston we warm up first. a little sea breeze may try to kick in. an above-average day. tonight there may be a few lingering clouds. we're talking about mainly clear skies. 54 to 62 in the suburbs about 66 downtown. very similar for highs tomorrow. the biggest difference, lower humidity, you'll feel the 83 in boston, 85 in norwood. most of us in the lower to middle 80s. high pressure building right on in. going to stay with us for thursday, too. so as a warm front approaches there will be some showers and closed but the focus of that right now should be to our north. so thursday stays dry as well and then the next front approaches to end the week. so thursday night football looking good for the gillette stadium. 8:25 kickoff. great night. warm and dry. mid-70s very pleasant for this time of the year. we're in the 80s on friday.

thunderstorm not until late friday evening and night. a few showers may linger into saturday morning. that front means business. it cools us down significantly for the weekend. there's definitely a feel of fall, but temperatures in the mid-60s on saturday. even cooler on sunday. at least the sun will be shining and the mid-60s to start next week. >> there's three accident to know about. the latest one is 93 south in methuen. it's at exit 46. traffic is backed up and the back-up is actually feting pretty close to the new hampshire border. there's another accident on 95 north in canton. this is blocking the shoulder at exit 12 before 128 and traffic is backed up to exit 11. that first accident happened at the braintree split on route three north. it just cleared but there is some stop and go traffic back to union street at exit 17. the mbta has a new plan to vamp up the red line but it comeses with a hefty price. the globe is reporting that

line cars rather than refurbish them and add an additional two dozen train cars. this could allow the red line to carry 50% more passenger per hour and that trains would come every three minutes. the mbta already set aside about to hundred million dollars to upgrade the cars. no word on how much it will cost to replace them. >> all right. thank you very much. a child in chelsea hit by a driver who police say weaved around a stopped school bus. that 6-year-old boy was clipped by the side mirror yeste hospital with minor injuries. the driver was cited. 15 cases have now been dismissed over compromised evidence at the braintree police department. the latest case dismissed yesterday was a 2010 drug charge against a hyde park man who was facing heroin and cocaine trafficking charges. last week an audit reveals, drugs, guns and money were policing from the evidence room at the braintree police department. >> double trouble forejet blue plane. it was diverted for an equipment

. new this morning, a warning if you have eggo waffles in your freezer. they are being walled in massachusetts and 24 other states because of possible listeria contamination. the voluntary recall impacts nutri-grain whole wheat waffles. kelloggs says you should throw out the affected packages. the navy will be honoring robert f. kennedy. a new ship will be renamed the u.s. n.s. robert f. kennedy. the secretary of the navy along with ethyl kennedy and other members of the kennedy family will be on hand. every wonder what it's like

in connection to a truck attack in france. 86 people were killed in the bastille day aattack in nice, france. eight men arrested are french and at that nearbyian. identification claimed responsibility when a truck plowed into a crowd. a man suspected of setting off bombs in new york and new jersey may have referenced the boston marathon bombers. according to cnn, a handwritten note found next to one of bombs contained rambles that referenced previous terrorists including tsarnaev brothers. this morning the bombing suspect ahmad rahami is being held on $5.2 million bail. he's in the hospital after undergoing surgery. rahami is facing charges, five counts of attempted murder for that gunfight with police. federal prosecutors are now deciding what other charges he will face in connection with the

week's first presidential debate. we'll bring you live coverage monday night right here. police still want to know more about the motive behind these attacks in new york and new jersey and whether others were involved. you can stay with wbz on air and online for the very latest. this morning, the justice department is investigating after tulsa police shoot and kill an unarmed black man. police responded to reports of a vehicle stalled in the road on friday. while new video from police dash cam and that terrance crutcher has his hands in the air. he drops to the ground after being shocked with a stun gun. but then a female officer opens fire, she shoots and kills him. that officer is on paid leave right now. crutcher's family says the video shows police prejudged him as a threat. they are calling for peace, though, during the investigation. police in southbridge are tighting up security around their station. the wooster telegram and gazette is reporting that southbridge police chief shane woodson

parking lot behind the station. chief woodson asked town counselors if he could repurpose $60,000 for a repaving project. it was approved and the chief hopes to have it installed by winter. a developing story in maynard. there will be extra security at all public schools today after a threat against school buses. wbz's anna meiler is live in maynard this morning with a closer look at that investigation. anna, good morning. that threat was in the form of messages scribbled on shotgun shells found in front of a local woman's home. so even though police believe this threat is most likely a hoax, they're taking it very seriously. police say a resident called them around 6:00 last night to report a bag of shotgun shells on the side walk in front of her house. on those shut gun shells messages were scribbled referencing terrorism and a bomb planted on a bus in town. maynard police alerted the

fusion center and federal authorities. the state police bomb squad thoroughly searched the vicinity and all four of the town's school buses. investigators say no danger was found but police have a very strong message, saying they will prosecute whoever is behind this threat. police say even if a hoax, this incident falls under terroristic threats which is a felony carrying up to 20 years in prison. police are urging anyone with information to give them a call. reporting live in maynard, anna meiler, wbz this morni the man accused of crashing into a newton restaurant killing two people has been released on personal recognizance and ordered not to drive. brad casler was arraigned yesterday on two counts of motor vehicle homicide in connection to the sweet tomatoes crash. attorneys on bone sides confirmed casler has multiple sclerosis. but prosecutors say that did not cause the crash. casler insists his brake pedal was stuck. >> the braking system was fully functioning as well as the ac

officers in connection with his capture and shootout that took place. he was taken into custody yesterday after that shootout. he's in the hospital now recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg. he's being held on $5.2 million bail. a source tells cbs news he is not cooperating with investigators. there will be extra security at public schools in maynard today after a threat against school buses there. police now say they believe this threat may be a hoax. a woman found a bag of shotgun shells with m front of her house yesterday. they reference terrorism and bombs on a school bus. a school officials are responding to concerns about student safety at wilmington high school as a teacher heads back to work. the superintendent says anthony altieri is returning as the physical education teacher. officials don't believe he posts any threat.
