sunshine. enjoy it while it lats it -- last. rain to the west stays there. and rain south of nantucket continues to lift north and that's where we are looking at rare yays of rain -- areas of rain filling in it won't be until late morning and midday along the south coast. the rest of us wait until the afternoon for scattered showers and a few downpours. they will stick around for the evening commute. scattered in nature and temperatures in the 50s throughout the course of the day today. more wet weather tomorrow. we will time that out for the weaning coming up. no >> reporter: we are still watching that accident on 24 north at 128 up here in randolph. it's blocking the right holder. see the backup is really building fast. traffic is now backed up to exit 18 and route 27 in brockton. this is going to add 25 minutes to your morning commute. good news is you can avoid 24 north a couple good alternate routes will be route 138 or 28 you can take those both back up to 128.

this morning his uncle is headed to court to face attempted murder charges. >> neigh coal -- nicole jacobs is live with the latest. >> reporter: that boy is going to be okay. he suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. but many in the neighborhood are still questioning how or why he would be hurt allegedly at the hands of his uncle. police audio transmission detail the 911 call. >> he killed nephew and says he left him in the apartment. >> reporter: lincoln village apartments in worcester an officer there working a detail was the first to respond. authorities entered the apartment and fortunately the little boy was not dead. >> and hope that little boy is going to be okay. >> reporter: neighbors in the area were shaken. one snapping this photo of a man taken into custody. >> it made me scared and made me want to keep my kids in the house because i figure if you can do this to your family then you can do it to pretty much anybody. >> reporter: police say it was

charge of baby sitting him while the father was at work instead assaulting him multiple times. this man who doesn't want to be identified heard the child in distress. >> sound like he was screaming but i mean, just pretty much crying and sometimes screaming. >> reporter: still many questions surrounding exactly what happened here. but this one most disturbing for residents. >> who would hurt a little kid? >> reporter: is 21-year-old taj mcdonald who is set to face a judge today. facing multiple charges including attempted murder. live in worcester nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thank you very much. disturbing story there. the fbi is now involved in the investigation into a mother who went missing during a trip at sway her son last night police searched a search warrant in the home of linda carman investigators were seen taking

look into whether herson nathan played a role in his disappearance. she is presumed dead now. her son nathan was rescued sunday after spending 8 days in a raft. he says the boat suddenly took on water and sank and denies any involvement in her disappearance. investigators are also taking a new look at unsolved murder of his wealthy grandfather. he he was killed three years ago. nathan was the last person to see hem alive and was once -- him alive and was once a person of interest in the crime. we are developing stories two people hit by a tow truck at a intersection in new ton. at least one of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. this happened at the intersection of beacon street and langley road after 7 last night. the driver stopped so far no charges have been filed. right now braintree police are searching for a suspect after two men were stabbed in a movie theater parking lot. this happened at 7 last night at the amc braintree 10 theater. the victims two men from hingham both 36 years old were

with nonlife-threatening injuries. and a warning from police after a sexual assault injamaica plain a woman said a man wearing a mask threatened her with a gun took her cell phone and sexual hi assault her. she says it happened 1:30 in the morning in the area of gayhead and mendon street. police say don't walk alone if possible and be aware of your surroundings. if you have information call police. this morning federal investigators are trying train crash in new jersey. the train was going too fast when it came into the station but it is unclear as to why. a mother who was standing on the platform was killed by debris more than 100 others were injured. the wbz louisa moller is live in hoboken new jersey with the latest on the investigation. louisa. >> reporter: well chris it's the first full day for federal investigators of the tragic crash and that means reviewing material from the train and

engineer who survive the crash 72 hours prior to the incident as well as his medical history. >> i have heavy structural damage and people trapped on the train. >> reporter: the historic hoboken terminal building remains closed to commuters this morning as federal investigators work to recover event recorders from the mangled new jersey transit train inside. >> the canopy of the building is on top of the controlling car. additionally because of the possibility of asbestos. >> reporter: witnesses say the train was traveling at a high speed when it slammed through a barrier and into the platform. >> the lights went off and people started screaming. >> reporter: in the midst of the chaos strangers stepped in to help the injured including this pregnant woman. >> the baby is fine but the ceiling of the train fell on my head. >> reporter: 34-year-old fabiola bittar

boston mayor walsh is not far behind with a 5 #% approval rating and same unfavorable as for-- baker and senator warren 46%. while the election may be coming to an end political insiders are contemplating the 2018 election where will feature races for governor and u.s. senate here in massachusetts. and in trial matchups fo amherst poll found baker willbeat the top dem crack healy by a 18 point and defeats mayor walsh but look at this, 4th district congressman joe kennedy ties baker in a potential matchup. looks like the kennedy name still has bounce around here. now senator warren would face an easy reelection in 2018 if

welcome back. 6:24. newton he's mayor speak out after student were caught on camera waving a confederate fling outside newton north high school. mayor says the incident is unacceptable. he spoke with students yesterday and he will meet with them again next week. the superintendent tells the boston globe that he cannot reveal what punishment the students involved are facing because of privacy issues. but police are still investigating. a day care chain under

year-old was hurt allegedly at the hands of his own uncle, they were completely disturbed by this. the man called police initially saying that he had killed his nephew and left him inside an apartment. police arrived and that little boy was alive conscious and alert. but police say he had been attacked several times. the injuries are nonlife threateling and authorities do believe the -- nonlife- threatening and the authorities believe the his uncle taj mcdonald was taken into custody and charged. neighbors in the lincoln village complex were shaken. >> it made me scared and made me want to keep my kids in the house because if you can do this to your own family you can do it to anybody. >> reporter: mcdonald faces several charges including attempted murder. nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thanks very much for the update this morning. president obooma has

voting started yesterday. she is taken a page out of president obama's book trial to -- trying to get ahead in bat ground states. she announced 40 new endorsements from republican officials. she will hold two rallies in florida. federal investigators are trying to figure out what caused a deadly train crash in new jersey. some officials say the train was going way too fast. wbz louisa moehler is live -- moller is live with >> reporter: it's the first full day for federal investigators as they try to determine as you said what caused the new jersey transit train to flow into the historic hoboken station at high rate of speed of the they will look at the train's data recorder and also surveillance video. they plan to interview the train's engineer 48-year-old thomas gallagher a man with 20 years of experience. the crash happened yesterday morning just before 9.

weymouth the woman tied up at bottom of the ravine lied to police she called 911 around 8 saying she was assaulted and left in the ravine. after the rescue police began an immediate investigation into her claims and they say she now admits she made the whole thing up. no word if she could face charges. a local man says he is grateful to police for returning a world war i sold yr's dog tag. we told you about this story yesterday morning. tag belonged to joseph e hughes randolph after a push for help from the public officer kevin aldred was able to track down the soldier's oldest living grandson and namesake a retired boston firefighter living in walpole. >> he probably had it on his neck when he was fighting the battles in france and now it is full circle all the way back to here to me. >> he says this inspired him to

more wet weather back to the south. the band of rain stays to the west but more rain and that's what we are watching to fill in over the course of the day. while it may be a dry start this morning, look at that rain fills in from south to north between now and early afternoon. notice it takes long until mid to late afternoon a scattered shower in northern new england a lot of day is spent dry i should say in northern massachusetts southern new hampshire to late in the day and if you have friday evening plans hand have the wet weather gear pockets of rain tonight saturday areas of rain downpours in the morning and that will taper but only gradually. so even by 3 p.m., areas of rain and we are talking about a leftover shower through evening with patchy areas of drizzle as well. sunday morning we may get a brief batch of rain that comes through and the rest of the day should be mainly dry. notice not a ton of green showing up on the map. maybe a quick passing shower here or there. so sunday is the drier of the two weekend days overall. rainfall total the blue indicates half an inch to an
