the bahamas and may make correct landfall into the day tomorrow. these are the hurricane warnings from daytona beach to north of miami. here's a look at the latest track that just came in. see the intensification, up to a category 4 hurricane. this may make landfall to the north of west palm beach and getting up to the space coast and tituil facilities. and then along the georgia and south carolina coast and then it gets wacky. it stops and starts to turn around and that's something to talk about as we move forward into the future. the winds will be gusting over 90 miles per hour. and over 100 miles per hour for a time in bahamas and you can see the hundred-mile-per-hour gusts moving up to florida. the strongest storm since wilma in 2005.

minutes. >> hurricane matthew threatening the entire atlantic coast as eric just showed us. and it could lead to historic evacuations there. florida residents are taking the storm seriously, and they should. matthew has been blamed for 11 deaths in the caribbean. in haiti, winds of up to 125 miles per hour pounded the island nation, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction. officials say largest humanitarian event since a catastrophic earthquake in 2010. people in florida are now bracing for the worst. >> screens around the porches and we'll be prepared. >> there are mandatory evacuations for the barrier islands and some states have already canceled school. in south carolina, interstate 26 was packed with drivers racing to get out of the storm's path. >> our goal is to make sure

people get moved out safely, and that they get moved back safely. >> as the forecast track holds true, some areas of the southeast could see more than 10 inches of rain. >> causing other problems. many floridians are coming to new england. beth germano is live at logan airport where planes from down south were packed. >> reporter: we found people endingivations early to -- ending vacations early to get out of the path of matthew. they are taking the hurricane seriously. >> are you glad to get out a day early? the growing urgency on florida's east coast. >> the grocery stores you would think it was a combination of christmas, new year's, and 4th of july. they are so crowded and people

not happy to leave her family behind. >> reporter: are you nervous leaving your son and husband behind? >> absolutely. i've been through wilma, francis, and jean and we were out of power for two weeks for one of those. so yeah, yeah. >> reporter: the lengthy lines for propane and gas. deb young made it to dell ray only to turn around and come home. >> there's no water in the we waited in line over an hour to fill up the car. >> matthew left its mark. and while it appears calm on the coast right now. she knows what's coming. >> i have shutter. you'd be enclosed. no air conditioning. i'm happy i'm not there. >> reporter: and some were not sure if they'd end up being evacuated and if they didn't get out today.

>> like a bumper sticker. we have breaking news. several students at westford academy have been diagnosed with mrsa and staph infections. coaches are talking to athletes about the signs and symptoms of the infection. and this breaking news, an nsa contractor is under arrest, accused of taking classified documents and storing them in his home. liam martin is here studio with the details. >> reporter: harris thomas martin is charged with theft of government property and highly classified information. he was working with -- as a contractor with the nsa and authorities found hard copy and digital files of top secret information in his home. the fbi has not released a motive. but martin's attorney says his client did not intend to betray his country.

until that point. prosecutors say the suspects thought they were ripping off a pair of heroin buyers who wanted some guns. the two came to court with hooded jail jump suits covering most of their faces and one admitted they were trying to pull the wool over the eyes of undercover cops when the shootout erupted. >> the police said -- they set up the officers robbery. >> police say they made several heroin buys from the pair last month and the investigation took a turn when the suspects started offering guns for sale. the two undercover state troopers thought they were buying a machine gun and two pistols for 1800 bucks. but the suspects were thinking ripoff, unaware who they were dealing with. >> he put a firearm to the head

>> he managed to scramble away while his partner wrestled with the other suspect. some bullets hit a house. >> my son knew what they were. and when one hit the house, he got himself to the basement. >> he was caught quickly in the manhunt that followed. and gonzalez was tracked down the 11-year-old was eventually plucked from the basement by police. >> pat was not picking up the phone. and it was 30 minutes that were very tense. >> these court records make it clear that neither suspect was a choir boy before this incident. and now the judge has set bail at a half million dollars each for assault with intent to murder. ken macleod, wbz news.

a hero gets a well deserved second chance. boston doctors performed a double arm transplant on a marine. this man is so inspiring. >> he lost all of his limbs in 2010 when he stepped on a homemade bomb in afghanistan. and the transplant will now let him pursue his dreams. >> reporter: six years ago during his afghanistan. he stepped on an ied losing both arms and legs. >> it's a miracle i'm here. >> he thought his dreams of becoming a celebrity chef were over until doctors gave him hope. he became the 4th patient at the brigham and the first marine ever to undergo a double arm transplant.

and headlines as it comes to new england. a direct hit or a fringe hit looks unlikely. it should stay quite a distance to the south. some of the tropical moisture can work north. rainfall late saturday and saturday night and into sunday morning. we'll see building seas and you'll notice those most to the south coast as the storm churns well off and here's matthew, starting to reorganize. it's back in the warm water. and away from the land of cuba and haiti and expected to become a category 4 again. pretty much a slam dunk across the bahamas and likely across the east coast of florida. and this is a storm that could go up 95 from west palm beach up the georgia coastline, the

so it will impact every community along the way. not just the winds but the surf. the bahamas are prone to storm surge. the water that piles up ahead of a hurricane because the water is shallow. and it's easy to collect it and push it to shore. the big waves will arrive in florida tomorrow. 30-footers will be just offshore. erosion, coastal flooding, and surge potential up the coastline into saturday. that's another element. and the other rainfall. and while beach areas can deal with the heavier rainfall. i'm watching south carolina and north carolina. they had a really wet sent and they are prone to big -- i mean catastrophic flooding if this stays far enough west. so a lot to watch. it's so quiet. and temperatures in the 60s. we've had clouds towards cape cod, the south shore and the islands, everyone else has been in the sunshine. we'll look at mainly clear

the air. well back in the 30s for many. it will be a cold start to the day tomorrow. like many autumn days, tons of sunshine and less wind. and temperatures will make it to the low 70s inland and a little bit cooler at the coast. an excellent thursday and a repeat performance on friday, almost the exact same day wrap up the week. 60s near the water's edge and a fabulous fall day. high pressure in control for friday. and then we get to saturday. and this is where we could get into the connection with matthew. even though it's well to the south. the incoming front should bring in cloud cover. right now that looks like the best chance of seeing the rainfall. and then we clear out as we head through the day. and monday looks like the best of all for columbus day.
