look at this traffic. the lack of traffic. this is great, some light traffic building as you make your way to downtown but it is not going to slow you down. nothing major in the area. of the drive time from the split into downtown boston or the pike is a quick 10 minutes. not too much to worry about. let's get a look at the maps. if you are coming from the north shore, you can see 93, route 3, 128 are wide open and no problems getting into work. we begin with the latest on the shooting of two boston police officers. >> both are in critical but stable condition. detectives have a search warrant for the east boston home where the shootout happen. we were there as investigators searched the scene and we are learning about the suspect and his criminal past. city hall was lit of blue in honor of the injured officers. a vigil was held in east boston. >> nicole jacobs is live were the officers are being treated a very emotional night for everyone. >> reporter: for sure, and not just for fellow officers it but also for community members. the commissioner says that he has spoken with the two

beds and they both understand just how dire their situations were. the community rallies together in prayer that they will eventually make it home. >> reporter: the emotion of the last couple of days are spilling over for captain kelley mccormick. >> there are no words for these guys -- >> reporter: after a dangerous and deadly night for his fellow brothers and blue. officers richard cintolo and matthew morrison responded to a gladstone domestic dispute, and both were shot. cell phone video shows the er >> everything within their capabilities to bring these guys home safe. >> reporter: the community rallies behind the department by candlelight and a blue lake city hall. >> when something hit -- hits home, you feel like you do not know what is going to go on. >> reporter: of those who know the officers understand their commitment to serve and protect. >> a very honorable guy and he wanted to be a veteran. >> one of the nicest guys that

quiet type of guy. >> reporter: they came face-to- face with gunfire but the thin blue line had their backs with officers rushing to their aid using tourniquets and their hands to keep them alive. >> he clearly said to me, i want to thank this particular officer. he saved my life. he knows how close he was to death. >> reporter: the prayers continue that their bravery is rewarded by a full recovery. both officers have undergone surgery. they are still listed in stable a but critical condition. once again tonight the community will come together and support of these officers and the department in prayer

nicole jacobs, wbz. >> it was the quick action of fellow police that helped save the lives of the wounded officers. the commissioner says that they use tourniquets to slow the bleeding and doctors say that is what saved at the officer -- there life after he was shot in a main artery in his leg. the officers carry the tourniquets after the marathon bombing and retired transit officer says that it is an important change. >> from what i hear, up to this point, it looks like some of the things, the changes, the training, and the tools that went into -- into effect after the marathon come after my shooting hopefully help to save the officers lives. >> reporter: the boston police department started adding the tourniquets to the vehicles. >> some of the officers who use them wednesday night had just been trained last week. boston police and the mayor walsh our urgent community to also give blood. they say that the officers needed transfusions and if there is one thing that you can

information about the suspect in what may have set off the argument that first brought police to the scene. autumn plyler is live in east boston with the latest for us. >> reporter: part of the street is blocked off with crime tape and police are processing the scene hoping to learn about the man who will do the officers within our license assault rifle. >> it was rapid. it was not like one at a time, like separated, but it was popping. >> reporter: a ferocious firestorm breaks out when the boston police officers richard cintolo antt on wednesday night. of the commissioner said that 33-year-old kirsten figaro -- kirk figueroa shielded with a ballistic vest opened fire. >> he quickly displayed a rifle and without provocation, basically, he opened fire on the officers. >> reporter: other officers ran towards the gunfire and shot and killed figueroa -- the security company that he founded -- he called himself a bounty hunter and claimed that he served eight years as an

only served five months before receiving a hardship discharge. in 2010 figueroa faced a felony for setting his car on fire to collect insurance money. last year figueroa ex-wife asked for a restraining order writing that he gave me black eyes, choked me, pulled out my hair, verbally humiliated -- he abuse me on several visit -- different occasions. despite his history he was swor no criminal record. i think that there were several felony -- from what i understand, not in the state, so it -- impersonating a police officer and i think that there was one charge. nothing here. nothing that would prevent -- ban us from issuing him a constable license. >> reporter: police sources

five teenagers in a wrong way crash will be arraigned on murder charges but 36 rolled stephen is facing five counts of second-degree murder. police say that he drove the wrong way on 89 and he hit the teenager car and stole a police cruiser before crashing into at least seven other vehicles. he will be a rain from his hospital bed. police captured a man wanted for an attempted sexual assault in roxbury and he is due in coto and pictures of the suspect hoping that someone would turn him in. they arrested 32-year-old jose cepeda yesterday afternoon. he is accused of pushing a woman to the ground in mission hill on saturday and trying to sexually assault her before taking off. campaign 2016 -- drama on the campaign trail with 25 days until the election. hillary clinton is dealing with new leaked emails and first lady michelle obama is sounding off about donald trump as he defends himself against new accusations of sexual assault. hena daniels with the very latest.

skiing, whatever, but this is awesome. look at this shot. thank you to this shot for how beautiful does it is so colorful. it is probably going a little bit past the peak and beyond -- but most of the rest of the region -- the color wave is moving down into massachusetts and the wind is taking off some leaves off of the trees and certainly bringing down a lot of pine needles. when i came to work -- there are pine needles all over the town roads and the country roads and that sort of thing. the temperatures are about the same almost everywhere. there are exceptions where the wind has dropped off a but in the most part, upper 40s and a few lower 50s. it is breezy. you can see -- feel the chilly -- today the magic number will be about 58 and -- in most all locations, give or take 1

tonight it drops off and the temperature tumbles and it dives quickly with that the wind becoming calm, down to 41 at logan airport but we have got 20s out in here, so certainly a lot of frost and freezing conditions of this the first time that we have had a freeze warning close to boston in many of the suburbs. these communities and these counties so the national weather service is warning you of that and i am, of course, as well to protect the plants tonight as it gets really cold but then there is a nice recovery tomorrow, about 58 again, along the coast and the temperatures will rise probably a good almost 30 degrees to 40 degrees in some locations. at least the morning lows. probably 35 in spots. high pressure is bringing in the cooler air and there goes the storm out at sea which is nicole which really clobbered bermuda yesterday. it is way out in the atlantic so no troubles to any other land areas.

two 143 it -- very minor and not going to slow you down too much. 5:31 am and the latest on the shooting of two boston police officers. both of those officers are in critical but stable condition. last up in blue in honor of the officers richard cintolo and matt morris and a vigil was held in east boston. city leaders, fellow officers and the community gathered together in prayer. detectives now have a search warrant for the east boston home where they should not happen. investigators say that the suspect kirk figueroa were able listed vest and fired and assault rifle. when the officers responded to the remains on wednesday night police sources tell us that it may have started as a fight over the thermostat we are learning about the background of figueroa -- he was not licensed to have a gun in massachusetts. he claimed that he served eight years in the army reserves. military police soldiers. but the army times reports that while he did and list he never attended basic training and was
