now with the latest on the investigation. >> witnesses say this happened so fast and was just a horrifying scene. something caused the water to start gushing and it filled a trench trapping the two workers underground. video shows dartmouth street submerged this afternoon. the incident prompted a massive response from ems first responders and police. they were describing it no longer as a rescue but recovery operation. authorities have not identified employees of atlantic drain service. federal safety inspectors now on the scene to find out what happened. dartmouth street could be closed for days as the investigation continues. steer clear of the area. more from the crews on the scene coming up. two young men free tonight after pleading not guilty to blowing up a newspaper box in se lem owned by an lgbt publication.

boston ballet students getting a chance of a lifetime preparing to perform. we'll check in with our weather watchers network this evening. the rain continuing to come in this evening. over a half inch of rain as brian in belmont new hampshire. we'll track those down for us coming up. i just want what's best for my kids. when i hear arguments that massachusetts needs more charter schools, i think: what about the students in all of our schools? every new charter takes away more money from the existing public schools. that's 400 million dollars, just last year. we can't afford to drain even more money from our kids' schools

. two mosques in arizona have been vandalized. people spray painted the words "go home" on an islamic mosque. they damaged the garage and porch. the fbi has joined the investigation. this seems like an only in canada type crime. thieves breaking through the roof f a sporting goods store and stealing $150,000 worth of high end hockey sticks. they piled the sticks up by the back door and then loaded them into a white van and they were gone. while the bride and groom in this picture is smiling, other members of the wedding party look absolutely horrified. why is that? when the photographer stepped off the curb a speeding car nearly hit her.

going to end up towards boston and 20 miles further to the west we have pretty heavy rain coming down. the city reaching up into kingsboro. stow we have the heaviest rain westward into paxton. we could see some street flooding so rough go on the roads. it extends towards south bridge and more all seeing the rain tonight. so we will be continuing to be scattered about up until midnight. a front moving in from the west also channelling moisture from this subtropical low off shore. did not get a name but it's adding moisture to the rainfall potential. looking at the temperatures in the 60s and 70s. it won't cool off tonight. dew points in the 60s and we won't dry out either. we see the cooling temperatures

so still a ways to go. timing out the rain, there's what i mentioned the plume of the heaviest rainfall modeled in the eastern end of the state and ended up further west. that will likely continue with heaviest rain moving up through 495 and scattered elsewhere. tomorrow another round of showers is pushing across the area from late morning into the mid afternoon and could see a few local heavy downpours with that also. then the cold moves in an that's snow coming down. in terms of the temps they're in the 60s and will stay in the 60s tomorrow morning. not until after lunchtime that push of cooler air moves in from west to east and falling back in the 40s by tomorrow evening. the combo of wind and cooler temperatures is going to feel like a big change. winds gusting 30-50 miles per hour across the higher terrain and coastal communities. 20-40 miles per hour elsewhere.

stronger winds saturday evening into the day on sunday. showers likely and then we have the afternoon wind and temperature drop. a lot of wind and falling temperatures and on sunday a blustery day and certainly not a weekend for raking for sure. we see highs in the 50s. here's our seven-day. past the weekend into next week a lot of chilly air. highs in the 40s possible several days nec week. we haven't seen that in a long time. our schoolyard shout out is the golden hill school. we went out and talked to 104 middle schoolers there. . >> that seems fun. . thanks, we appreciate it. as the kids gear up for trick or treating, you don't have to wait for halloween to get something sweet.

about 30 kids age 10-16 are in the boston ballet season opener. >> they are all students at the boston ballet school. as exciting as it is, it's also nerve wracking counting down to open night. 0. >> we are the garden girls and we are supposed to be like alive and dancing. ? [ music ] ? ? . >> the garden scene from one of the most famous ensemble scenes in classical ballet and these little flowers provide the color and spectacle to enhance the art industry of the principle dancers. sew foe ya has been a student since she was three. >> it's cool to have a new experience with costumes and choreography. >> my nerves haven't kicked in but i know they will soon.

second year and knows as young performers they have to be ready for thursday's opener. >> the biggest challenge is bumping into each other or if one of us is wrong we're all wrong. ?[ music ] ? ? all the young dancers have to audition and put in the hours and do mental and physical work. >> ballet takes up 80% of my life. it means a lot to me. >> all they're so committed to it. i hope this reinforces why they want to do it and how much fun it is. >> i'm very serious about ballet and want to continue this journey. >> when the audience claps for the company after a part it's fun to think they are also clapping for you. ?[ music ] ? ? . love that whole sense of team work. the ballet runs from october october 27th to november 6th.

it's not. >> you know it isn't. much more still ahead. >> the news at 6:00 starts now. two workers trapped in a trench when water suddenly comes rushing in. a chance for damaging winds this weekend, and a big cool down. a possible second victim steps forward. the news at 6:00 this was a terrifying scene in boston's south end. workers in a manhole suddenly trapped when water started rushing in. >> sky eye over the scene as the rescue operation turned sadly into a recovery mission. we know crews are searching for two men presumed dead. the situation is horrific. witnesses say there was panic and then came the rush of

dramatic. dartmouth street was flooded and two workers were in a trench with no way to escape. team coverage this evening beginning with nick live at the scene in the south end. . >> i can tell you, there was so much water out here to wade through. it took four hours for crews to remove enough to begin the recovery process. now it's officially underway here. firefighters were able to go down into this area you're seeing behind us here. they're work ng a trench box on their knees removing dirt by hand out of respect for two people recovering. >> as deep as 12 feet under the surface, the hole in the ground on dartmouth street is where two construction workers were trapped friday in boston's south end. >> there were workers in the trench submerged we believe

scene before 1:00 upon hearing reports of a water main break. >> there's water in the trench. >> neighbors said the water rushing down the street made the intersection look like a river. members of a private construction crew stuck ends neither it. the mission became a recovery effort to locate two bodies in the trench. >> i think it will be quite a while. they have to firm up the hole before the firefighters and rescue can the two bodies a tough week here in boston. two police officers were shot last week, a two year old girl was shot and we have some workers here today. it shows you life is precious. >> reporter: a tough week and it's not over. the mayor telling us the workers out here may continue into the early morning hours here and this part of dartmouth may be shut down for days as the investigation continues
