live from the channel 4 studios in boston this is wbz news at noon. . right now at noon we are on the storm watch, a gray day over the city of boston right now as the city braces for a lot of rain moving in, but some going to see snow. we'll have a live look can see snow making its way into parts of our area. the flakes are already flying in parts of massachusetts. >> there's also potential for damaging winds. danielle niles is here tracking all. there is a little bit of everything with this storm. although it looks like it is snowing the leading edge is not making it down to the grounds

in places like springfield stretching back into vermont and north massachusetts where a little bit of light snow is falling and this will continue to spread over the east the next few hours. it's a wind swept rainstorm. the heaviest comes in tonight up to 2 inches of beneficial rain. it's very windy too particularly earl tomorrow morning that's when we may see some pockets of damage and outages particularly on the cape and islands and it's not a wash-out this weekend but there will be a few showers so currently 47 in boston but only 38 in worcester, 36 in keene. as the steadier precipitation comes in there may be a few slick roadways that results. so if you're traveling west keep that in mind. farthest you go less chance you have seeing of any snow. mainly just a chilly cold rain. we may get wet snowflakes that mix in across

>> she's demanding they step up and make big improvements. we're live at back bay station. . >> reporter: and i talked to the president of the boston city council as she got off the orange line this morning. she tells me the chief is doing a poor job of serving residents in the city and across the state. officials responded by saying major improvements are already in the works. passengers capture moments of chaos as an orange line train begins to fill with smoke during rush hour wednesday. >> i had no idea what was going on. i thought it was on fire. there was a ton of smoke. so the first thing on my mind was getting out of there. >> reporter: mbta officials say a motor likely overheated but with no announcements and no understanding what what was happening fear set in. >> people started to panic. the doors wouldn't open. so people tried to get the men in the front to pry them open they

jumped out. >> reporter: several were treated for smoke inhalation. >> it was horrifying and frightening and completely unacceptable. >> reporter: city council president calling for major investment into the transit system to prevent incidents like this. >> the trains has not received the investment the maintenance over time that they needed when we have ageing infrastructure incidents like this are bound to happen. >> reporter: mbta officials responded by saying that as p program approved this year they're putting $3.7 billion towards projects that will increase safety. about a third of that money will go toward new trains and busses including 152 new cars for the orange line. the first cars are scheduled to be delivered in 2018. orange line service is back to normal here today. the mbta says they're investigating what

noon amtrak agreeing to pay $265 million in the deadly 2015 derailment in philadelphia. that money will be given to the victims by june. 8 people were killed in that wreck, and more than 200 other injured the train hit a curve going more than 100 miles an hour when it derailed. a car crashed into a home sending bricks flying. the driver was working for uber at the time of the crash. we're investigation. . >> reporter: new this noon authorities do confirm that uber driver was in fact involved in a crash on cambridge street before slamming into this home. you can see a lot of apparatus now moved in as they start some repair work and removing bricks but i can tell you police are not considering that cambridge street cash a hit and run as some witnesses reported previously.

building. >> reporter: mid-afternoon wednesday. >> we have a 50-year old male 5-year old female for an eval. >> reporter: sky eye above the brown stones showing the need for it. >> not the phone call i was expecting to get. >> reporter: one day later he thinks back. >> she said it was halfway through the wall. it's there's no way possible. >> reporter: he is a neighbor that was at work at the time and was in order at the thought this could happen z. tight spaces all around. cars on each side. >> reporter: an uber driver behind the wheel of this suv nose first into what we now know was the pantry of this home. witnesses say the vehicle was traveling upwards of 70 miles per hour. >> he couldn't stop any way because he was going too fast. >> reporter: and that's what boston police say he was trying to do turn. new they also confirmed the driver was in fact, involved in an accident

street which they say caused him to lose control. >> bricks actually we want from here all the way to the front of the house which is # 0 or so feet. >> reporter: that's just how powerful the impact was. fortunately the homeowner was not at home. the driver and his passenger were injured but able to walk away. . >> i thought they was dead because he was going so fast. i'm surprised they both got out the car. >> reporter: both crashes the e one here on grove street are still under investigation. at this point no charges have been filed. . breaking right now at noon a deadly crash on the mass pike in warren. police telling us a man parked in the break down lane got out of his car and was hit by another car. he has died from his injuries one lane and the break down lane near mile marker 69 are shut down right knew. we'll bring you updates

the bristol county da ruled a sheriffs deputy did the right thing as he shot and killed a man during a stabbing rampage. . >> reporter: they stood together today as friends but it was a horrifying event last spring that brought them together. >> i would never refer to myself as a hero. i've always said that i think george is the hero. george intervened wit on. he was up and wrestling with him before i could react. without him things would have been very much worse. >> reporter: it was that night when a 28-year old went on a rampage in taunton. bussing into the galleria. he stabbed a pregnant waitress and a customer george heath jumped on him and was stabbed to death.

gifts. >> i was just like that. >> i don't believe that. right. . >> you're like my birthday in another year. i'll take this, this, this. mass dot just tweeted out that they're treating the roads in the berkshires right now. the temperatures just dropped 3 degrees as snow moved in. we are going to see some deterioration on the roads in western massachusetts over the next couple of hours because some of the steady snow is that's when we're seeing some accumulation. the leading edge it looks like it's snowing right in places like worcester even up towards 495. it's not making it down to the ground just yet. that being said i wouldn't be surprised to see flakes flying in the next hour or 2. the temperature in worcester is 38. so that's what we see between

lot of us but notice the mix worcester points west snowing moderately at that point and it will slowly advance northward between 6 and 8 p.m. for the rest of us the rain is steady, light to moderate for the most part but the heaviest rain by far comes in after midnight tonight look at the red and oranges in here. i wouldn't be surprised if you wake up to out over the south coast. the good news is between 5 and 6 a.m. tomorrow the rain is going to be shipping out of here. so there will still be some wet roadway to say contends with. keep in mind with the leaves kind of covering the drains gets a little bit slick on the roads. may cause some urban or low-lying flooding. 6:30 just a few lingering showers. it will be a drying trend during the commute tomorrow and some breaks and

to come out during the afternoon. snow fall first all rain the farthest you come. no impact here in worcester county but when you get up in elevation especially above 1,200, 1,500 feet, we're talking 1 to 3 inches of accumulation stretching back into the berkshires along and east of 91 and back in through vermont approximately. rainfall right around an inch for a lot of us. you see the blues and purples most of us ending up withit there are some locally heavy downpours we may see up to 2 inches in spots. wind the other thing we have to be concerned with. it's going to start to ramp up this evening, but overnight tonight the southeast wind is going to get quite strong. the core comes in 4 to 7 a.m. gusts to 75 miles an hour at the coast, 55 on the cape and islands. early tomorrow morning may be strong
