trying to avoid a deer went off the road and hit a tree and the suv caught fire. the driver was taken to the hospital. and fortunately, the driver is not badly injured. a tragic twist in the death of a woman who dedicated herself to helping people recover from addiction. she was killed by a driver who was high on drugs. beth germano is live at the scene now. and beth, people close to the what happened. >> that's because she dedicated her life to helping people overcome substance abuse. she was killed at this busy intersection yesterday. and now family members say she could have helped the driver who is accused of blowing through the stop sign. accident reconstruction teams at the scene of a horrific three way accident in salem, new hampshire, that claimed the

buseck. >> we're shooken up, you know what i mean? >> family members believe there's irony in the tragedy. police say 45-year-old todd gurley, charged with negligent homicide was high on heroin at the time of the accident. she was a longtime substance abuse counselor. >> she spends her whole life helping out people like that. and someone like that would end >> reporter: gurley went through a stop sign entering route 111, striking a car and sending it head on to the vehicle she was in. gurley tried to hide heroin he had in his car. and showed signs of opiate abuse. >> they saw signs of impairment. constricted pupils, slurred

say it's not the person, it's the disease. >> her family is convinced of one thing. >> if she was here today, she would forgive him. that's the type of person that she was. >> reporter: family members are also pulling for charlene's husband who was behind the wheel of the car and remains hospitalized with serious injuries. police say todd gurley was driving with a suspended license and is being $65,000 bail. reporting live from salem, new hampshire, i'm beth germano, wbz news. third day in a row. and dozens of disability rights advocates were protesting. the group wants the governor to provide more funding for home and community-based services and more money to help pay overtime for personal attendance. and a sweet november day.

enjoying the temperatures. as it is in november, it's not going to stick around. towns in the 70s, mendon at 72. and attleborough and hanover, 70 degrees. and now through the 50s and lower 60s but a nice evening and there's mild air off to the warm evening in cleveland. temperatures will hold close to 50 so not terribly chilly. and then we watch the showers heading our way. tomorrow morning, new hampshire and far northern ma. most of the rain showers move through the afternoon. we might goo get a rumble of thunder and with the drier air comes cooler air and a lot of wind out of the northwest.

world series. it looks to move in after midnight. so unless it's a long extra innings game, they should be fine. otherwise, the clouds thicken up this evening. and that caps overnight lows near 50 degrees. not chilly by november standards. and tomorrow, the incoming showers and more clouds. one batch is possible early in the morning before daybreak and across vermont and new hampshire in particular. in the midday, a chance for the sunshine, best odds for sun wibe the pike. areas farther to the north, more clouds and cooler temperatures. and a band of showers from midday through the afternoon. doesn't look like a big rain event. just showers and a rumble of thunder. and that will wrap up and then drying as we head to friday morning. in terms of temperatures, we've baby talking about the split. along and north of the pike. highs in the 60s to around 70
