. live from the channel 4 studios in boston, wbz news at noon starts now with breaking news. this noon a hazmat situation at a local school sends 8 people including students to the hospital. authorities say this all started with a cell phone charger. >>christina hagar is following she's live with the latest. >> reporter: chris, this made for some scary moments inside the school. 8 people taken to the hospital after inhaling fumes from the charger. fire officials called it a phone charger. the president of the manville school said it was more like a universal charger with some usb inputs. the hazmat crew put the unit in a bucket labeled hazardous material after it overheated and then a member

that caused another type of reaction that was a potentially dangerous situation. >>the student had a charger and it started to heat up and started sparking, and then he threw it down. some people came and helped. they took it to the bathroom, tried to isolate it. filled it with water and it started to off-gas. >> reporter: some people who were nearby inhaled the gas fumes and lightheaded. 7 people went in an ambulance to local hospitals. the school here is a special education school, but none of the students or staff had to be evacuated. a crew went inside, made surety area where this happened -- sure the area where it happened was clean, tested the air and determined it was safe to go on with classes.

shot a man from stoneham sunday. one witness describes what she saw as it unfolded in front of her. >>the guy that got shot run out to the street and that's when he had fallen right there, and he said to the girlfriend "i can't breathe." >>police say it was an isolated incident and there is no threated to neighborhood. vectors are searching the south carolina property of an for clues into the murders he's confessed to. todd kolap was arrested thursday when investigators found a woman chained on his property. david begnite reports from south carolina. >> reporter: todd kolap was denied bond when he appeared before a judge. the family members of the people he

>>anything you wish to say at this time? >>not it at this time. >> reporter: the 45-year-old realtor confessed to killing people in apparent burg county in 2003. one of them -- in spartanburg county. one of them was the shop's owner. his then-wife got the phone call saturday, a detective calling with news of her husband's alleged killer. she says he was husband's store. >>if she had not been found alive, we wouldn't be having an interview right now. >> reporter: he was arrested last thursday. investigators discovered brown chained up like a dog inside a storage container on his property. they later found her boyfriend's remains in a shallow grave nearby. on saturday he took investigators to where he says two other bodies are buried, one of which has been found.
