confused, but i'm confused. when i talked to you a month ago after the ohio win, after your ohio win, i asked you if you would consider moving forward coordinating with the cruz campaign to stop donald trump from reaching 1,237 delegates. you said to me, i'm out there running to be president. i'm not out to stop donald trump or anybody else. now, we hear of this deal between your campaign and the cruz campaign. so did reality or the calendar simply catch up with you? >> first of all, we're not out to -- i'm not out to stop donald trump. i'm out to stop hilalary clinto. donald trump has zero chance of being able to beat hillary clinton. he loses in every single poll. i win in every single poll. >> but there is a deal in place -- >> well -- >> -- between your campaign and the cruz campaign. >> i understand. it is a matter of resources. look, in a political campaign, matt, you've got to be in a position of where you apply your

and upset. we're not. i mean, the fact of the matter is, i'm going to be going on thursday to oregon. ted cruz is not going to oregon. he may be in indiana. i'm not going to indiana. i'm not spending resources there. i'm not going on television. >> governor -- >> it's just the way it goes. >> just to be clear, if all of your supporters still vote for you in indiana, and then the cruz supporters vote for cruz, then trump will win. what is the point of the deal? >> i think you're having a hard time figuring this out. >> i am. >> but i'm not. we're not. you may be, but we're not. the fact of the matter is, i'm not over there doing town halls. i'm not over there running television ads. we'll see how it all turns out. i think you'll understand that when somebody is not over there campaigning and putting effort in and spending money on television -- look, you guys are hung up on process. here's the bottom line, the bottom line is, donald trump

cannot beat hilalary clinton. if we don't beat clinton, the republican party will give up the supreme court, we'll lose the united states senate. all surveys indicate it. i'm going to be elected president. the fact is, we are going to go to an open convention where people are going to consider, who is it that has the record of creating jobs and giving hope to families, and who can beat hillary clinton? plain and simple. >> so we can end on a plain and simple vote, the people in eopl who are watching, primary day there, vote for? >> i'm not getting into that, matt. things are not so plain and simple. i don't tell my voters what to do. first of all, i don't have voters. there are people who live in indiana who will have to make a conclusion. john kasich is over here voting or not. if i'm not campaigning, i will get fewer votes than if i were over there campaigning. the same way that ted cruz will

get fewer votes in oregon if he's not there. what's so -- i don't understand what's so -- what the big deal is about this, other than the fact that he and i both would prefer to have an open convention, where delegates can pick the person who can best defeat hillary clinton. end of story. >> i've never heard a presidential candidate wibe unwilling to go on television and tell people in a given state, vote for me. >> listen, matt, this whole business is about stopping hillary clinton from being president. i have laid out a strategy, and i have not told anybody to not vote for me. i'm just not there campaigning. you know what? when you don't campaign in certain areas in any kind of a race, guess what? your turnout goes down. i don't tell people how to vote. i am not in that state right now. i will be in other states. i will be at the convention, trying to become president of the united states because i have the record and the capability to carry out the job and win in the

connecticut. this was not going to be a good night for ted cruz. but they didn't cut that deal. instead, donald trump is going to sweep tonight. donald trump is probably going to win 95 delegates tonight. he's going to cut what he needs down literally -- needs 400. he'll need 50% of remaining delegates. all because they couldn't cut the deal when you asked kasich that question a month ago. if they'd cut it a month ago, we'd be in a different situation. they're doing it out of desperation. kasich was honest about that, resource issue. money wasn't coming in to either campaign. >> did kasich try to cut the deal but the cruz folks didn't want to? >> the kasich campaign wanted to do it for six weeks. the cruz people finally did it. simply in indiana, the only way for them to win was get kasich out of the way. >> pennsylvania on the republican side. get to that one? >> yes, i'm getting there. there you go. so today, only 17 are available. the most interesting people are

going to be the 54 unbound delegates we're looking at here. they get directly elected. they don't have to vote how the state voted. 60% of them in a poll said they would support the winner. if that's trump, it's fair. if trump is short, these could be the 54 most powerful people in the republican party. forget what happens to the rest of the delegates. >> those are delegates on the ballot. >> yeah. >> let's talk about the democrats. a lot of delegates up for grabs. bernie sanders still thinking he has a path? >> he really doesn't. he's admitting it's a narrow path. i think he'll win a couple states tonight. rhode island, maybe connecticut and pennsylvania, but she'll win more delegates because she dominates in a couple other states. she will actually net more delegates tonight, even if he wins more states, which has been the story of the primary campaign for him. >> was there a deal or wasn't there a deal? >> again, i feel you banged your head against the wall for everybody this morning. >> chuck, thank you. another major story.

dangerous storms. this was the scene in parts of michigan on monday. heavy rains triggering flash flooding. dylan is tracking a new threat facing tens of millions of people today. she's in for al. >> tornado alley is the area we're foe cushicusing on today. we have severe thunderstorm watches. the orange boxes indicate the severe thunderstorm warnings we're already seeing this morning. then we'll get a break and the real activity will start to get going later on this afternoon. we're looking at the chance of perhaps over the next couple of hours, large hail, damaging wind gusts with these super cells that are developing. as we go into the afternoon and evening, that's when we're going to see the chance of three to four inch diameter hail. that's baseball, softball and grapefruit sized hail possible with some of the storms. the biggest threat will be in southern nebraska and northern kansas. we could also see a few strong tornadoes that could develop. then this whole storm system will develop into one of those

systems that continues to spread east through the night. still with the threat of the severe storms. during the overnight hours when it's dark, it makes it that much more dangerous. through the afternoon and into tomorrow morning, some of the storms will hold together tomorrow morning. they'll move through the st. louis area, little rock, stretching down to the gulf of mexico. wednesday afternoon, another round of storms will fire up. we're looking at the chance of still, the larger hail. today is our biggest threat of the strong storms. tomorrow, it's a wider area, from houston through jackson, mississippi, up to memphis, including st. louis. we're not looking at the wide spread outbreak we could see later this afternoon. the large hail we could see later this afternoon. we're still looking at some moderate sized hail. golf ball sized hail instead. also, damaging winds. we still have to keep an eye out for some of the tornadoes. we are going to be active later on this afternoon. >> you can say that again. dylan, thank you. the nfl's deflategate scandal is back in the

headlines. a federal appeals court restored the suspension of tom brady. willie is here with the latest twist on this. good morning. >> morning, guys. first, everybody in the state of indiana, vote for me when you go to the polls today. brady's initial suspension was overturned by a lower court judge last fall. in a reversal, a three-judge panel is siding with the nfl, saying commissioner roger goodell has the authority to keep brady off the field. >> drive and brady -- >> reporter: this morning, fans in new england are furious. sports radio is all about brady. >> the narrative out there will be that brady is a cheater, but his legacy will be -- >> oh, gosh, we'll have the legacy discussion the rest of our lives. >> you will. >> reporter: entering presidential politics. >> leave tom brady alone. >> reporter: donald trump rallying in patriots country. on monday, two judges on the second circuit court of appeals reinstated tom brady four-game

suspension for his alleged involvement in the deflategate scandal. now, the star quarterback could be on the bench at the start of next season. the fight is not over. >> what tom brady and the nfl players association can do is file a petition for a rehearing before the full u.s. court of appeals. if they do that, the suspension will be stayed. >> reporter: in the decision, the appeals court slams brady for destroying his cell phone during the investigation, ruling that commissioner goodell had the authority to punish him. thanks to the league's collective bargaining agreement. the scandal shook the nfl for more than a year. >> is tom brady a cheater? >> i don't believe so. i've always played within the rules. i would never do anything to break the rules. >> reporter: in january 2010, the patriots crushed the colts at the championship game. the next day, rumors surfaced that new england had been deflating footballs. getting an advantage. in september, brady and the

players union won a major victory. his four-game suspension overturned. until now. >> this ruling shows that the commissioner has plenty of power. essentially, it is a tie right now. two of the judges sided with tom brady and the union. the other two judges have sided with the nfl. >> we reached out to the patriots. haven't yet heard back on this one. what happens next for tom brady is what people want to know. he can go back to the same court of appeals and have all 14 judges, not just the three-judge panel, hear it again. if he fails there, the next move is the supreme court. it seems unlikely they'd take up the deflategate case. >> dylan, we'll turn to you. it's for the weather, not patriots opinions from a fan. we have a couple of spotty showers this morning and heavier rain this afternoon. that's a look at the weather across the country. your local forecast is coming up in the next 30 seconds.

her! really, really beat her bigly. >> both trump and clinton are pulling ahead in all five states voting today. more severe weather expected today across the midwest. on monday, the region was hit by storms that produced a number of tornadoes and baseball-sized hail. check out an unusual police chase in california. the suspect was a young bear on the run. slow-speed chase happened last night in a los angeles suburb. the bear ran from cruisers trying to scare it away from the area. it was sedated and will be released back into the forest. also this morning, there is a battle brewing between two florida families that had been linked by tragedy. their teenagers were lost at sea during a fishing trip last summer. now, a search has finally turned up their boat and an iphone. but the families do not agree about where to proceed from here. nbc's kerry sanders has the latest. good morning. >> good morning, matt.

florida law enforcement officials tell us this morning they still have the iphone in their custody. what they don't have is the search warcht search warrant to look at the iphone's contents. they plan to give it up. >> nobody is on board. >> reporter: this morning, two families grieving over the tragic loss of their sons at sea last summer are now at odds with each other in court over this damaged iphone. >> we need experts to take a look at that phone. >> reporter: it belonged to 14-year-old austin stephanos. he and his buddy perry cohen, whose phone was broken, shared this phone on their fateful fishing trip last july. both using it to text family. the phone was discovered in the boat's console when the small craft was found last month off bermuda, nearly 1,000 miles from home. no one is sure how badly damaged the phone might be after nine months exposed to corrosive saltwater and humidity. >> we're hoping to find any

answers, if there are any. >> reporter: but the boys' families disagree about how to get the information. austin's parents want their son's phone back, reluctant to let government investigators try to recover its contents. austin's father has been working with apple, writing in a facebook post, apple seems willing to help us try to get the phone operational again. but on monday, perry's parents filed a lawsuit, demanding the phone not be turned over until a court can decide how to proceed. and in a twist, cohen's parents are now working with family friend john scully. he is the former ceo of apple. >> i think in a case like this, anything is worth following up with a careful investigation. that's what both families are trying to do. >> reporter: perry cohen's mother says she just wants answers. >> they may be willing to bring it to an expert, but it would still be filtered information that we would get. a proper investigation needs to

take place with government officials. >> a judge will now determine what happens to the iphone. if it remains with law enforcement, detectives will have to get a search warrant to look at its contents. legal experts say that may be difficult because there is no obvious probable cause suggesting what happened to the teenagers off the coast here was anything more than a tragic accident. matt and savannah? >> kerry, so hard for parents to be left with so many unanswered questions. thank you very much. turning now to other news. this morning, we're getting a glimpse inside prince's minnesota estate, as the investigation into his untimely death goes on. joe fryer is following the story. good morning. >> savannah, good morning. so many questions remain unanswered. not just the cause of prince's death but who will inherit his estate and what will happen to paisley park? this morning, we're taking a closer look at the questions and learning more information about a dramatic incident leading up to prince's death.

>> reporter: for the first time, we're hearing audio from a air traffic control tower as prince's plane made a sudden landing in illinois. >> what's the nature of the emergency? >> unresponsive passenger. >> reporter: it's part of the mystery surrounding prince's unsolved death six days later in minnesota. many wonder what will happen to the music legend's estate. it's unclear if he left a will. if not, under minnesota law, everything would go to his closest relatives, his siblings, including sister nelson. >> thank you for loving him, y'all. he loves each and every one of you. >> reporter: she was seen in this photo taken after her brother's cremation and is said to show relatives transporting prince's ashes under a jacket. six half siblings would share equally. according to celebrity network, prince was worth an estimated $300 million. as for paisley park, friends say for instance wanted it to become a museum for fans.

>> beautiful and inviting place. that's what he wanted, so we hope, you know, to continue what his wishes were. >> reporter: images from inside the 65,000 square foot compound show a vast recording studio, elaborate stage where prince rehearsed for tours, even a purple vending machine. inside one room, prince's storied vault. legend says it's filled with troves of unreleased music. brent fisher added backgrounds to some of prince's songs. >> i can still remember some of the song titles we worked on. we were like, this is unbelievable. i can't wait to hear the final version of this. we never did. >> reporter: in the '80s, sound engineer susan rogers started collecting prince's recorded material for him. she hopes whatever is left is someday released. >> i hope that that was his wish. i think it would be the smart thing. his fans want and should know

scenes following the execution-style murders of eight family members in ohio. a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation tells nbc news, the pot found was not for personal use. one location was an indoor facility with more than 100 plants. the other two were outside. >> plenty of places for people to grow marijuana. we're also very, very a poor county, one of the poorest counties in the state of ohio. people grow marijuana as a cash crop. >> reporter: authorities aren't saying whether the discovery could point to a potential drug-related motive to the killings. one of the victims, dana rhoden, was the grandmother of the youngest survivor, just four days old. >> my daughter-in-law up there. >> reporter: dana's father suspects whoever did this was no stranger, saying pitbulls on the property would have attacked an intruder. a police report reveals there were no signs of forced entry at one of the homes. in another twist, the authority general's office tells nbc news

she's made health and wellness a part of her life? >> she was there from the beginning. she didn't flinch at all. kind of accepted it as a challenge, you know. she was going to make me over anyway, so might as well do it from the inside, as well. >> michael, perhaps, didn't have the most healthy lifestyle? >> no. or the best haircut. >> yeah. >> you know, i just -- i just never saw us not together. i never didn't see a future, even though people said he might have only a few months to live. instead of going the traditional routes, we did the best of east and west. integrative medicine. >> as you said, it's east and west. what does that mean? for people who are wondering, what should i do? how should i treat my issues? what does it mean to collect the best of both worlds? >> instead of just going with chemo and radiation, automatically, and a doctor says, we're going to burn, cut, cauterize, poison you, suppress your immune system and get you back to normal, i felt like,

these regimens and things to do every day. i felt like i was helping myself. i wasn't sitting there being a victim, waiting for a doctor to cure me. so in that way, it gave me a daily routine that was healthy and helpful through the ordeal. back to what you were saying, wholistic was exactly the word. east is the wholistic, healing the body. at the same time, using the west to specifically target the cancer. >> he was diagnosed with two cancers. two months after bladder cancer, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. >> you've been in remission how long? >> 12 1/2 years. >> congratulations. >> doctors said, we have to take your bladder out, prostate. if you want to have sex, we'll run a hose up and you can pump it six times. no pump necessary. didn't go through the surgeries and saved his life. >> she's a force of nature. >> and she knows what she wants. >> one of the most interesting thing about you is you have a memory where you remember every
