london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. we've have days of really dreary weather. a change is near. meteorologist sheena parveen has your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. tell us about it. >> yes, change is coming. doesn't seem like it especially with the heavier rain we saw earlier today. we still do have the rain around right now. let's take a look. we are seeing some areas of moderate rainfall now right around philadelphia, parts of bucks, montgomery, also upper bucks county as well as chester county and that's where we're seeing some heavier rainfall here right around 76 and parts of chester county. west vincent seeing that, norristown seeing the rain as well as much of bucks county, upper bucks at least seeing the steady lighter rain. with your new neighborhood already, your seven-day is also tracking at the bottom of the screen while we're tracking the rain for you. aside from the rain we still expect, coastal flooding is still going to be an issue so that coastal flood threat will be along the shore, the delaware beaches because of the high tide and also a coastal flood

advisory inland. more showers as we start off your weekend. much better as we go into sunday. we'll take a look at that forecast coming up. >> okay, sheena. it's been more than a week since we saw the sun and it's starting to take a toll on people. >> drew smith is at penn's landing with the rain, travel, and frankly your psychological well being. drew? >> reporter: this is one of the city parks that was supposed to be opening today. as you can see, we're pretty much the only people out here. the nbc 10 first alert weather team tells me it's been 1 1 straight days of rainy weather or overcast skies and seems people have just had enough. it's a may friday night in rittenhouse square and these outdoor restaurant seats are empty. >> pretty gross, but to be honest, it makes me want to lay in bed all day, snuggle with my dog. >> reporter: at phl airport, weather delayed flights two hours on average. emergency managers warned of the possibility of flooding overnight on the delaware river. as storm clouds whipped past the

william penn statute, terri and her family ducked under a tent. it's so wet and cold she had to break out the mittens. >> usually i only wear this hat in buffalo in may, but now i'm wearing it if philadelphia. >> reporter: the rain did not extinguish the chinese lantern festival. >> even in the clouds the lanterns actually look pretty beautiful. you know, the light just has a magical effect. >> reporter: but not even magical looking lights at penn's landing could save the summer opening of the spruce street harbor park. the event is postponed with the chairs dripping and umbrellas down with no sun to block. >> the general lack of sunlight and the sort of gloomy air, you begin to feel down, depressed. >> reporter: frank farley is a psychology professor at temple university. he says when bad weather lasts this long, it can influence moods, emotions and thoughts. >> any sort of relentless invasion of our life by weather has effects on us psychologically. >> reporter: he says the best fix is to focus on something else like playing with the kids or cleaning the house until the sun returns.

higher ups at penn state before the sex abuse sandal broke in 2011. yesterday we learned a child allegedly told former penn state head coach joe paterno he was molested by sandusky in 1976. sandusky right now is serving 30 to 60 years in prison. new at 11:00 a murder suspect in custody. u.s. marshals captured a man who allegedly killed a teenager at a motel in cherry hill. officers say 21-year-old kevin fentres is from burlington city but arrested in georgia. he opened fire outside the inn of dove in february. two people were hit. one, a 17-year-old, died. police say the violence began with a fight at a party. surveillance video captured the arrest of a suspect wanted for a rash of the shootings outside of washington, d.c., that left three people dead. 62-year-old eulalio tordil charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his

wife outside a high school yesterday. authorities believe the federal security officer is also responsible for two deadly shootings today, one outside a mall, the other at a grocery store. >> they had this individual under surveillance and when the individual walked back to his car, the plain-clothed officers were able to take him into custody without incident. >> program authorities say tordil was placed on leave from his job in march after his wife got a restraining order. in decision 2016 tonight, hillary clinton is heading to new jersey in the coming weeks. she'll host a public event in the camden area wednesday ahead of the state's june 7th primary. >> when i think about what's at stake, even if i weren't running for president, i would be doing everything i could to make sure that the presumptive nominee of the republican party never gets near the white house. >> tonight, clinton taking a swipe at donald trump as she

hosted a get out the vote rally in oaklands but bernie sanders still stands in her way in california. voters in that state head to the polls june 7th. sanders is threatening a floor fight at the democratic national convention here in philadelphia this summer. sanders wrote a letter to the democratic national committee today. he accuses the dnc of giving clinton supporters more representation at the convention. clinton has more than 90% of the delegates needed to clinch the nomination. tonight donald trump is picking up a new endorsement, bob dole who was once the gop presidential nominee threw his support behind him today. dole said it's important to honor the votes of the millions who supported trump in the nomination process. moments ago donald trump wrapped up a campaign speech in oregon. he rallied voters in eugene ahead of the state's primary on may 17th. >> thank you. thank you. nobody gets the crowds that

democrats say trump will pull in undecided voters into their pools for their candidates. we caught up with the chairman of the philadelphia republican party at 30th street station to ask if presumptive gop presidential nominee donald trump will impact voter turnout for republicans this november. >> i really believe that turnout will be up. >> reporter: the chairman says he doesn't think trump will hurt support for republicans in down-ballot races including u.s. senator pat toomey who is challenged by democrat katie mcginty. >> pat's his own brand. pat doesn't have to worry about the top of the ticket, doesn't have to worry about the bottom of the ticket. >> reporter: there's optimism. despite trump not having endorsements from house speaker paul ryan and a few other high-profile republican politicians. president obama questioned trump's record at a press conference this morning. >> there is a debate that's taking place inside the republican party about who they are and what they represent. >> reporter: because of that, chairman of the philadelphia democratic party, robert brady, told nbc 10 he thinks it will

play in their favor. brady says it will likely help democrats in the u.s. senate, attorney general, auditor general, and state treasurer races. >> people will come and vote in a presidential year at far greater rates than they vote in the off-year elections. >> reporter: a political science assistant professor from rutgers camden says if people aren't excited for the presidential candidates, turnout will be different. between now and november, anything can happen. >> we can't tell yet what other actors in this race are going to do, though. if there's a third-party candidate, like a bloomberg. >> if there is a third-party candidate, that can still help candidates in the down-ballot races. the professor also says don't be surprised if you see republicans in other states tell voters to support other races even if they're wavering on trump. live in studio, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. >> brandon, thank you.

donald trump will testify in a lawsuit against trump university, but not until after the election. today, a judge set a trial date for november 28th in a class-action lawsuit. it accuses trump and his now-defunct school of defrauding people who paid up to $35,000 for real estate seminars. trump will testify at the trial and he'll be in the courtroom for most, if not all of the proceedings. anyone hoping to see president obama deliver the commencement address at rutgers university later this month will have to win the lottery. a ticket lottery. right now, each student is allowed three tickets. an monday the university will give out the remaining tickets through a random drawing. commencement is may 15th at the university's high point solutions stadium. speaking of lotteries, there is a giant jackpot up for grabs. the powerball pot has soared to $415 million. that's one of the largest jackpots in powerball history.

new at 11:00, kids at risk because of pennsylvania's vaccine procedures. now a new report that's calling for specific changes to the way the state keeps its records. a bipartisan group of lawmakers found that not enough children are being imyun imunized and sas too easy for families to opt out of the vaccine requirements and problems with the recordkeeping. experts say if there were a disease outbreak, they wouldn't have the necessary information to respond quickly. the report made several recommendations including limiting the amount of time kids are allowed in schools without being vaccinated. so we know they say dogs are a man's best friend, but for one teenager, her new puppy is so much more. >> for years she wanted a pug. look at the face, come on. the make-a-wish foundation made that a reality. nbc 10 has her story. >> this day has been circled about a month on the calendar. >> reporter: the wish has lasted practically a lifetime and the day has finally arrived.

but before it was granted, 17-year-old amanda had to travel from hershey, pennsylvania, to the philadelphia international airport. >> say hi, mama. >> oh, my gosh. >> reporter: amanda has always wanted a pug. the make-a-wish foundation made it a reality. >> she does dialysis three days a week. this is hard on a teenager to go through all of this change in her -- her life. >> you want to come to dialysis with me? >> reporter: amanda has end stage kidney and bladder failure and is hoping for a transplant. the last year and a half has been especially difficult. >> just that bright light they can look to and forget all the other stuff they have to endure. >> reporter: amanda says jagger will live in her room. >> welcome home. >> reporter: and it seems like he already feels right at home. >> i want to cry because i feel so happy for her right now. this just brings so much out in

county. especially if you look north and west of philadelphia, philadelphia area, some light rain. a little moderate for parts of chester, montgomery, also berks county. that's where we're seeing more moderate rainfall on top of what we already saw today. that wet pattern has not cleared up just yet. coastal flood threat for the jersey shore and delaware beaches. right now we're mainly watching the back bay. that's where we expect flooding to continue moving in because we could see moderate flooding with high tide that already occurred. it happens later in the back bay so we could see street flooding there. farther inland for the delaware river, coastal flood advisory for the overnight hours tonight. we could see some minor flooding in some spots which could effect some streets. we'll keep our eye on that, too. future weather. overnight tonight, the rain continues, light showers. 10:30 tomorrow morning, clouds will still be here when you wake up for most of the area. maybe even some light showers. now we're looking at 5:30 in the afternoon. we start to see things dry out lot more. we'll start so see the sun peek

through then early sunday morning for your mother's day i think we'll have a line of more showers moving in, mostly light rain. that's early. 6:00 a.m. starts to clear out for most of your day. by noon the clouds could be lingering along the shore. ae everything else a lot of sunshine. it will get windy but warmer, too. 4:30 sunday afternoon, sunny and warmer. for tomorrow, though, we'll be in the low 60s through the lehigh valley. bethlehem 63 degrees. pennsylvania suburbs mid 60s. 6 4 in newtown and westchester. 65 degrees. philadelphia area, mid 60s as well. 65 fairmount with scattered showers for the first half of the day. new jersey 63 and trenton. you might want the umbrella if you're out before about noon tomorrow especially. jersey shore, 56 in avalon, 57 galloway township. delaware, temperatures mostly the mid 60s. rehoboth beach, expect temperatures right near 60 degrees. we go into sunday, mother's day forecast. it looks so much better. temperatures in the low 70s for most of the area.
