mcdonald's, supporting athletes on their journeys toward olympic gold. the americans continue to lead in both overall and gold medals. meanwhile, jamaica won its first two rio golds last night and tonight with elaine thompson and usain bolt claiming the titles of world's fastest woman and man. and south africa won its first gold tonight with wayde van niekerk's world record performance in the 400 meters. it was also a tremendous sunday for great britain today. five golds and three silvers across gymnastics, sailing, cycling, and tennis with andy murray winning a second straight singles title. and there was goal from justin rose in golf's return. and we'll leave you tonight with the first olympic golf medal ceremony since one was presumably held at glen oak hill country club in st. louis back in 1904. 112 years later it was time to cue up "god save the queen."

evacuated from new york's busiest airport after somebody reported hearing gunfire. here's what we know. passengers in two terminals at jfk international airport were forced to leave. police searched but didn't find anyone with a gun and didn't find any shell casings. the sound of people cheering and clapping while watching the olympics on tvs at the airport may have been mistaken for the sound of gunfire. passengers are now being allowed back in while the investigation continues. now in the dangerous heat smothering our area. still sweltering in center city, philadelphia. we look from the campus camera. the extreme heat turned deadly this weekend and the heat wave will be with us for the start of our workweek. let's get to chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz and the first alert neighborhood forecast. >> this is impacting the entire area, including the shore which has seen temperatures well into the 90s. the worst of it is in

philadelphia, delaware and in south jersey where it's been feeling like it's 105 or even higher. the extended first alert through tuesday and into the evening. and the longer the heat wave is the more danger there is. all that heat builds up and things don't cool down at night very much. and the longer the heat wave, historically, the more the fatalities. this is the list of the days of the heat wave. we peaked at 98 degrees yesterday. it felt like 110. felt like 104 today and over the next two days, feeling like about 102 with temperatures in the mid-90s. this heat wave continues. right now it's 81 degrees in philadelphia and 80 in wilmington. 75 in dover. temperature knocked down there because of a thunderstorm, but it felt like about 115 there today. and the feels-like temperature still 85 in philadelphia. so it is a warm night.

it's going to be another hot day tomorrow. by 11:00 a.m., temperatures already approaching 90 degrees. we'll let you know when we get a break from this and when we see some storms. this heat remains a storm threat. it's being blamed on three deaths in philadelphia over the weekend. and in a close call in bucks county, a baby is safe after being left in a hot car. drew smith is tracking the dangerous heat all around our region. >> a rescue in bensalem led to the arrest of an aunt and grandmother. they were shopping at this target and forgot a 1-year-old baby was in their car. roasting for 14 minutes. the temperature reached 115 degrees. we're told the child is now doing okay. >> i think this is off the charts. i don't think it's been this hot. i can't remember how long. it's just awful. >> reporter: the danger is not lost on this family in newark, delaware. they spend every possible second

cooling off in the pool which extended its hours. >> people can get into a lot of trouble with heat exhaustion and heatstroke if they're outside for long periods of time. >> reporter: the scorching sun limited outdoor activity. many didn't brave the rink until the welcome sight of the moon and finally some shade. >> it is dangerous hot. if you don't have no water or nothing like that. >> reporter: the heat so miserable, one of the few places we saw smiles was from the youngsters splashing in the fountain at logan square. all three people who died in the heat had complicating health conditions which the city says gives all the more incentive for you to continue to check on the vulnerable. at logan square, drew smith, nbc 10 news. count on the first alert neighborhood forecast to track this dangerous heat. it's available any time on the nbc 10 app. there you can find glenn's new blog on this heat wave. new tonight from the nbc 10

south jersey bureau. two children are hurt in an atv crash that happened in camp den county. the two boys were riding on north grove street in berlin when they collided with a pickup truck. the 9-year-old and 11-year-old kids were injured badly. they were both flown to cooper university hospital where they are in serious condition. the driver did stop in this case and is cooperate with officers. ♪ to a live look at the olympic flame in rio de janeiro. day nine of the 2016 rio games is officially in the books. until tonight, michael phelps has really been the headliner of the rio games. now usain bolt is stepping into the spotlight. he electrified the crowd. and simone biles is grabbing her own headlines as she's well on her way to five gold medals. >> here he is.

>> reporter: usain bolt defended his title of fastest man in the world. the first ever to win the 100-meter in three straight olympics. american justin gatlin, both friend and rival, held on for silver. simone biles became the first american woman ever to win the vault but she's shrugging off expectations she'll leave rio with five golds. >> i'm very happy with how i've done. >> reporter: madison kocian. alex naddour won men's pommell horse. britain's andy murray became the first olympic tennis player to win back-to-back gold. coming up tomorrow, in beach volleyball, the men take on brazil, the defending world champions. the women's basketball team ran all over china. the men are having a little bit of trouble. they've won their last three games by a combined total of 16 points. they're trying to rebound. brian mooar, nbc news, rio.

robbed in rio. u.s. swimmer ryan lochte and three of his teammates are lucky they weren't hurt after they were held at gunpoint early sunday morning. >> i was like, we didn't do anything wrong. so i'm not getting down on the ground. and the guy pulled out his gun. he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said get down. i put my hands up. i was like, whatever. >> ryan lochte talks more about his experience in an exclusive interview with nbc that's coming up on the "today" show. that music means the eagles. new quarterback carson wentz are still a few weeks away from the official start to the season. today thousands of fans packed the linc to catch a look of the birds under head coach doug pederson. nbc 10 is your official eagles station and aundrea cline-thomas takes us to the feel for today's open field practice. >> reporter: thousands of eagles

fans filled the stands at the linc. >> i want to see a lot of touchdown passes. >> reporter: hoping a player would slap their hand or give an autograph while watching the team practice. for some like jalen wright, it's their first time. >> i think carson wentz is good. i think he'll be a better quarterback. >> reporter: the crowd roared as carson wentz came out of the tunnel. the quarterback showed up despite not being able to play in most of the preseason games due to an injury. >> hopefully this is just a blip and an early warning for him to not do those things where he can get hurt. >> reporter: at this practice, the military shared the spotlight as players shook their hands and thanked them for their service. >> look up to these guys all their lives, even now after we're out of the military. to see this opportunity where they recognize us, that's a big deal for me. >> reporter: after the fanfare it was all about business. the eagles are in a process of

for the state of louisiana. rain-swollen rivers and creeks have overflowed their banks. about 18,000 people have had to be rescued from flooded homes and cars in baton rouge and in livington parish. with more rain in the forecast, there are fears the flooding could get even worse in the week to come. some places had 20-plus inches of rain there. now this dangerous heat for us is sticking around for the start of your workweek. i'm timing out when we'll finally get a break next in the first alert neighborhood forecast. new tonight, doctors called it impossible. a member of the philadelphia orchestra once debilitated by ms says he's now living symptom free. next, he explains how he found the answers overlooked by medicine. first, a check on the current olympic medal count. if you don't want to see it, look away for the next few moments until the music stops playing and then we'll be back after the break. nbc 10's olympic medal count

the democratic nominee is set to speak at a voter vegistration event at west philadelphia high school tuesday afternoon. clinton is expected to call on pennsylvanians to vote before the october 11th deadline. first, clinton will make her case to voters in scranton. she'll be joined by vice president joe biden. both have ties to scranton. biden was born there. so was clinton's father. laura nape will be tracking clinton at both of her stops this week. donald trump is on the attack tonight but it's not his democratic opponent he's going after. >> i'm not running against crooked hillary clinton. i'm running against the crooked media. >> in tweet after tweet today, trump questioned the freedom of the press. he claims he would beat clinton by 20% if the media covered him

the final product definitely well worth it. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we've extended our first alert all the way through tuesday. and this covers the entire area. this is not just in the urbannized area. it's worse in philadelphia, delaware and south jersey where the heat index is going well over 110. it's through tuesday evening and the longer the heat wave goes, the more dangerous it becomes. especially in places like in south philly with all of the row homes. brick row homes like ovens after a while. and you can see the feels-like temperature peaked at 110 yesterday with a high temperature of 98. today's high 97. monday and tuesday, 95 degrees. so that heat wave is going to continue. and it's going to feel like it's close to 90 degrees even at 7:00 in the morning down toward the

shore by noontime. feeling like the 90s across most of the area. close to 100 degrees by 5:00, and then this computer model has it even higher on tuesday. 100. 103. 105. 105 in dover again. that's tuesday afternoon. you can see your own seven-day forecast on the bottom of your screen at any time. now we can show you in philadelphia, all the different neighborhoods. it's 81 degrees at the airport but it's 85 in penn's port. 85 in society hill. you can see not quite as hot at the outskirt. still mighty warm. had some thunderstorms move through especially in delaware this evening with some strong wind gusts. we don't expect anything like that during the day tomorrow, but tomorrow night, we could see some more strong thunderstorms and another round possible on
