demonstrators demanded it for days. just minutes ago police say they have found the man who shot up a washington mall, killing five people inside. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. wilmington's mayor calls it a devastating day. two firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty and two others are critically hurt. the deadly fire happened early this morning on lake view road. nbc 10's drew smith had the latest on the investigation from wilmington. >> reporter: the state fire marshal and federal investigators are involved, trying to figure out how this fire started, scorching the house and making a -- crews began boarding the row home where two men would fight their last fire. >> wake up, wake up, it's a fire. >> a family of six woke to smoke

detecters, but word they got out safely reached rescuers too late as it collapsed under the intense heat and flames. six firefighters needed help. >> now all of our family is hurting significantly. >> reporter: a motorcade accompanies the firefighters. >> they're super heroes. both of them are absolutely fantastic firefighters. they love their community. >> reporter: black bunting now hangs on firehouses and flags are at half staff. >> please know we are praying for you. >> reporter: a gathering of prayer brought together devastated family members and friends. >> this is just a horrible tragedy. >> reporter: vice president joe biden visited the fire scene tonight, one of many leaders trying to comfort a hurting family of first responders. >> this is a very tight knit community and the two firefighters who died serving

carolina. hours after police released their video of the deadly encounter that sparked these demonstrations. protesters had been demanding the release of police dash cam and body camera footage showing the death of keith scott. they say the new images are just part of the story. >> reporter: tonight a first look at police dash and body cam video from the final moments of keith lamont scott's life during a confrontation with charlotte police. charlotte police chief says the release is not the entire video but includes all of the images relevant to the shooting. >> there is no definitive visual evidence that he had a gun in his hand. you see something in the hand and that he pointed it at an officer. >> reporter: he says it's just part of the bigger picture of the shooting that is now sharing

with the public. >> in the spirit of transparency, you're going to get everything we can deliver. >> reporter: including a holster and a gun they say is loaded. >> they see the marijuana and the gun they say uh-oh, this is a safety issue for the public. >> reporter: they found scott 's fingerprints and dna on the weapon. and only one officer fired the shots that killed him. chief putny says they will not face charges from his department. >> if laws were violated, i would take a different action. >> reporter: there's still a separate investigation underway. >> we're -- >> reporter: pleased the details are now public but scott 's family and attorneys still have questions about the death. >> how does the combination of marijuana and a gun constitute

aggravated assault? >> reporter: the investigation continues. >> witnesses have said scott didn't have a gun but was instead holding a book and was shot while waiting for his son to get off the bus. hundreds of mourners packed a church to remember an unarmed black man who was shot and killed by a police officer in tulsa. dash cam and chopper video released by police shows crutcher being shot while standing next to an suv in the middle of the road. people called for justice in crutcher's death. officer betty shelby has been charged with manslaughter. turning to our weather now. and it is feeling like fall right now. nbc 10 along main street where people are out enjoying the
