you will only find it here on nbc 10, and it's picking up some of the showers getting closer to sussex county, getting closer to view, we have more showers and storms approaching from maryland, so we track these storms, they're mostly moving arrange 25 miles an hour. if you're in hartley, expect it close to 6:00. dover, 6:18. the heavy rain in some cases could include lightning too. another area of rain is about to move into sussex county too. milton 6:07. so again we're going to be watching all of that very closely for the rest of the area. pretty much some spotty light rain. unless you're in lancaster county, you dealing with showers. close to a half an inch an hour, with some of the heavier rain, if you go farther south, we have some of the higher precip rates almost two inches an hour, but that's pushing it a little bit.
5:01 pm
the good news is that these storms are not sitting around for an hour, they're moving through quickly. we have some light spotty rain, except for this one area i have been talking about, with heavy rain and thunderstorms approaching maryland and approaching the delaware area, that's where we're going to see precip rates going up even higher right around two to 2 1/2 inches potentially. with a closer look at the timing tonight into tomorrow morning. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is standing by. >> we have some computer models that have been following that area in virginia and maryland very accurately up to this point. and if you can track it for the first couple of hours accurately, you have to assume that's going to continue to be pretty good. now this is at 6:30, as we go through the afternoon, and into the evening hours, and that is going to allow this area to move
5:02 pm
up to the northeast, there's 6:30, dinner time, just getting up through dover, look at some of the heavier rain coming up through the philadelphia area, as we go through the evening. but then another batch, even bigger area starts coming up from the southwest. overnight and into the morning rush. let's go there 5:30 in the morning, some patchy areas of very heavy rain, especially in delaware. that's where the heaviest is going to be. the temperature kind of leveling off, we go into tomorrow, 64 degrees in philadelphia. i have a high of 65 for tomorrow. in some of the suburbs, chester, montgomery, bucks county, not even 60 degrees tomorrow morning. and onlyi ingetting up a littlet beyond. temperatures way below average, plus it's windy. the other thing that we're

haley is on her way here. video from outside the school show people running away from the building. here's what we know. the victims are two students and a teacher. we're told the students' injuries are not life threatening, but we don't know the teacher's condition. a teenaged suspect is in custody. authorities are also investigating a death about a mile away from that scene and it appears to be connected to the school shooting. parents say this is their worst nightmare. according to one woman, her daughter hid in a bahama throom the school. >> she hid in the bathroom. i'm so scared, i don't even want her to go to school now. >> reporter: this is all happening in a school just outside of greenville in a very rural part of the state surrounded by farms. we are expecting that media briefing, that briefing to the public, coming up in the next few minutes here.
5:05 pm
we'll continue to monitor it and as soon as we get more information we'll pass it along. we are not finished with breaking news right now, this a decision 2016, hillary clinton is the winner of the first presidentialal debate. that's according to a released minutes ago, data from the nbc/survey monkey poll, says that 56% of those who watched the debate thought clinton did the best job. and 21% said that trump did the best. but a win at the debate means nothing without a win of course at the polls. >> so hillary clinton is using all of her recourses to get out the vote. >> reporter: michelle obama saying that a candidate doesn't
5:06 pm
change once they get into the white house. >> most of all i want to thank all of you here at la salle university. >> reporter: first lady michelle in philadelphia fire up support for hillary clinton. >> hillary has been a lawyer, a law professor, first lady of arkansas, first lady of the united states, a u.s. senator, secretary of state, that's why i'm inspired by hillary. >> reporter: as part of an effort to reach millennials, that's been a charge throughout the primaries. >> bernie went all over to the colleges, and that really appeals to the students. >> reporter: the first lady laid out her case for hillary, but also sent a sobering message. >> elections are not just about who votes, but who doesn't vote. >> reporter: she said that young voters helped her husband win reelection in key battleground
5:07 pm
states. >> without those votes, barack would have lost the election period. >> reporter: the first lady warned about a protest vote. >> it's the truth. either hillary clinton or her opponent will be elected president this year. and if you vote for someone other than hillary or if you don't vote at all, then you are helping to elect hillary's opponent. >> and when you look at the numbers for voters aged 18 to 34, you can understand why third party votes may be a concern for the clinton campaign. last week's nbc news/"wall street journal" poll shows of those younger voters, 17% supported libertarian gary johnson, 5% supported green party's jill stein. >> we want to talk more about those younger voters thanks to you on that report. but here's hillary clinton
5:08 pm
joined by former rival bernie sanders. hillary clinton hoping to win over more young voters, this is sanders first campaign appearance with hillary clinton since a rally they held together back in july. there's a reason the clinton campaign was focused on college campuses today, she really needs those young voters to show up at the polls. >> let's look at the importance of millennial vote. mark, thanks for joining us. >> thanks for having me. >> mark, how much of an impact could young voters have on this election? >> oh, i think it's the difference between an incredibly close race and one that hillary clinton can end up winning by a similar margin that than barack obama and in the mar swricgins barack obama did is the difference between winning and losing, which is why you're
5:09 pm
seeing such a effort, whether it's michelle obama stumping today this might be the deciding demographic for this entire election. >> we heard lauren make referral to the third party candidates. >> in our own polling, gary johnson, his supporters are pretty evenly split hillary clinton and donald trump when you look at a two-way matchup. so bottom line, the johnson supporters are taking away the both clinton and donald trump. but we see that jill stein takes almost exclusively for hillary clinton. so bottom line, the third party vote disproportionately ends up hurting hillary clinton, and that is why she's going to younger voters and why her surrogates are going to younger voters, and sayingive you're against donald trump, don't vote for a third party candidate or
5:10 pm
for trump, but do vote for hillary clinton. hillary clinton, she is beating donald trump handily among the younger voter. but what really matters is the margin, is she able to end up winning them by 15 points or by 20 points. millennials now make up such a sizable portion of the population, but getting them to vote and in big margins and a big number, that again is the difference between a really close race and one that hillary clinton can have little bit more comfort zone. >> how excited are they about this election, excited enough to get out and vote or are they going to say i'm going to sit out this one. the push for pennsylvania bumps up against with donald trump's running mate making a stop in the keystone state. the vice presidential nominee will attend a rally at a
5:11 pm
recycling facility tomorrow afternoon. it's an effort by both parties to win over votes in the highly contested state. and donald trump is making a campaign stop at an airport in iowa this afternoon. the rally here follows a trip to illinois earlier today. he spoke to a group of polish americans in chicago and he told the crowd he's very excited about the next couple of months. >> we have a very interesting race. we have had some amazing days. i love the debate. i love the process. something very beautiful about this process. >> trump watraps up the day wita speech in wisconsin. for more on what's happening on the campaign trail, stick around for "nightly news with lester holt." an arrest this afternoon in the shootsing death of a bucks county toddler. police have charged the child's father with involuntary
