investigators say the train was going twice the speed limit. developing in the southeast. hurricane matthew is lashing north carolina right now. the storm is being blamed for 11 deaths in the u.s. as many as 1,000 people could be dead in haiti. meanwhile, in our area, we've seen heavy rain and thick fog and tomorrow, the winds they're going to be picking up. we begin with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist, erica martin. >> we have a lot of rain moving through the area south to north and we have some developing fog through the overnight hours tonight into tomorrow. so, keep that in mind, especially when you're driving tonight. do not turn on those high beams. that's tempting. and we have this cold front sliding from the northwest. we're not seeing much here locally, not yet but we have a

developing tonight, two officers are killed in a shootout in california. a third officer was injured. a s.w.a.t. team has now surrounded the home in palm spring wheres the shooting happened. investigators say the suspect may still be inside. the officers were responding to a demistomestic violence call os home when a man opened fire. two were killed. the condition of the third officer is not yet known. we have some more wide-spread rain. the forecast, developing fog and a windy sunday in the forecast. i have more details in my 10 day
