could take weeks before we learn what went wrong. >> and nbc 10 learns more about the man behind that crash. >> reporter: i want to tell you that the homeowners here now have their backyard back. the aircraft debris is on its way from backyard where it came to rest yesterday to a faa hanger for the investigation. it was a delicate and meticulous crash that left many here speechless and the pilot without his own voice. sky force 10 was high above for the two-hour recovery operation. on the ground we watched the investigators with the faa carefully photographed and delicately dismentled the small plane that crashed into this backyard in lindenwold yesterday. >> not in my backyard, but now it is. >> when it hit, it rolled up on

the side. >> reporter: we now know the pilot is 66-year-old wayne gilchrist of maryland. investigators say it's too early to know what caused an apparent mechanical failure, but says that gilchrist was licensed to and was conducting a flight lesson. a joint and thorough investigation by the faa of the aircraft and the ntsb will determine how he managed to avoid total disaster. >> a trained pilot who's been in the air a lot of times does that. >> yes, it's totally amazing, or a pilot that is incredible. >> reporter: gilchrist told us that her dad is in for a long recovery, but flying is his passi passion. >> you can see how wide open it is, we have some other areas that are just separated by driveways, and if it would have went up there, we definitely would have had one or two homes involved.

>> god bless him, god bless him, that's all i can say. i mean it's a total miracle that they -- a small plane like that, wow. >> reporter: and the passenger david missek we know will need hip surgery, also the pilot gilchrist will have to have 100 stitches as well as reconstructive surgery. they both remain hospitalized at the medical center. it could take 7 to 10 days for a primary cause. new at 5:00, a mother-daughter duo in new jersey is arrested for going on a six figure cosmetic crime spree, the mother and daughter shoplifted more than $100,000 worth of makeup and other beauty items across six states. investigators say the two would steal products from ulta stores and return those items to jcpenney stores, in return they

got about $107,000 in cash and store credit. one of the stores was at the cherry hill mall. both mother and daughter are charged with shoplifting, identity theft and related charges. to the weather now, let's take a live look at the camden skyline. another record day for october, but the clouds are moving in. >> do they have to? >> i know, seriously. >> nbc 10's first alert meteorologist sheena parveen is here with the rest of the forecast. >> we are starting to cool down a little bit, now that the sun is about to set. we did hit 80 in philadelphia, we're in the mid to low 70s, 71 in dover, 73 right now in allentown, 77 degrees in coatesville. now we do expect fog overnight and early tomorrow. here's a look at some of the visibility currently, we're already seeing dover below 3 mile visibility, so it's not horrible, it's not anything i would call dense at the moment, but the clouds are getting a

little bit lower, toms river down to one mile visibility. tonight we'll see the clouds continuing to increase, it will stay mild evening, temperatures mostly staying in the 60s, and by early tomorrow morning we'll have areas of fog around and later in the afternoon we expect some showers. the rain is just off to our west, some of that rain will start to move in through the day tomorrow, mostly later in the day, and some of that rain could linger into the weekend with some big weekend changes, a big cooldown in the forecast, i'll show you that and all the numbers coming up. day two of the faculty strike and still no end in sight for students in 14 public colleges in pennsylvania. professors hit the picket line again today in west chester. they're upset over a contract they say is unfair, adding hikes to their health care plan and changes to certain policies. the state system facing a budget deficit, say they have offered

the faculty raises and adding that health care costs are rising for all americans. >> we fully recognize that a lot of people are paying higher premiums and we're not saying hours should be cut, but we want to know how much they will increase. >> there's still no word on when this strike might end. we caught up with pennsylvania governor tom wolf to him about the strike. he told us his concern is for the students. >> as long as they are not treated fairly, as long as they have to sacrifice, yeah, i'm upset. >> wolf blames education cut backs in the previous administration and says his goal is to restore funding to the college system. more scrutiny tonight about the safety of new jersey's transit system after last month's train crash in hoboken. tonight lawmakers will consider granting themselves subpoena power as they begin to look this

september 29 crash. one woman died and more than 100 were hurt. new jersey transit had more accidents and paid more in fines for safety violations than any other commuter railroad nationwide over the past five years. here's details on a home invasion in plymouth township. police now searching for this man, kenneth moore, he went into a home when the family was sleeping inside, back on september 22, he cloned credit card numbers and he and another man bought hundreds of dollars worth of cigarettes and candy from a wawa. if you know where he is , call police. governor tom wolf announced a major project to boost the economy of philadelphia's chinatown, he officially approved a $1.1 million grant to conduct a new chinatown eastern

the third and final presidential debate included some bombshells like donald trump's refusal to say whether he's going to accept the elect results. >> our partners at factcheck.org about his claims that the election is rigged against him. >> what i have seen is so bad, so bad. millions of people that are registered to vote that shouldn't be registered to vote. >> reporter: donald trump refusing to back down from claims that voting fraud could influence the election. factcheck.org found it's largely a case of bad bookkeeping and there's no evidence of fraud. >> there's no evidence any of those people tried to vote. in fact socievoting experts fou numerous times that this kind of fraud is extremely rare.

>> reporter: and factcheck.org says that both candidates misquoted statistics on abortion. >> up until 9 months, you can rip the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby. >> trump said that clinton favored abortion up until the day of the birth. and in fact clinton said that she could put restrictions on late term abortions if it will affect the life of the mother. >> he said there should be some sort of punishment for women who obtain abortions. >> reporter: factcheck.org says he put out a statement the same day, saying women would not be punished but the doctor who performed abortions would be. now your nbc 10 first alert weather.

>> well, a nice day today, temperatures were comfortable, the clouds kind of hung around for a while. and we still have the clouds around. 70, our normal high for the this time of year is down to 65 degrees. currently we're about 10 degrees above that. philadelphia, we hit 80 degrees, a closer look at our philadelphia neighborhoods, at the airport it's 76 degrees, brewery town 77, as well as rittenhouse, 78 degrees, west mt. airy coming in at 75. tonight will still be mild. we're going to keep mild temperatures in the forecast. for the morning commute, here future fog, in some areas, by 7:30 tomorrow morning, especially if you're in northern delaware, even into the lehigh valley, somes could see visibility less than a mile,

pottstown gets close to that so we'll be watching that very closely tomorrow, but also keep that in mind before you leave. we do have rain chances that are going to hang around tomorrow, mainly later in the day, but also through saturday morning now, so i think some of this rain going into the weekend will be hanging around for part of your saturday. we go into the weekend and we're going to see a big pattern change with our temperatures, so currently, we're still in that warmer pattern, normal high 65, we're still above that, unseasonably warm tomorrow, i think it will be another day in the 70s, so we're still going to be unseasonably warm tomorrow. look at the drop on saturday, 58 for a high temperature, windy, winds could be gusting near 30 miles an hour and by sunday, high temperatures in the low 60s, so still below normal and kind of cool for the eagles game if that's where you're heading. locally we just have the clouds around, no immediate rain that's going to move in soon, but what we are watching is this area to our west moving into barts of

pa. i think by tomorrow morning, most of us should stay dry, we'll just have some of that fog around. here's that future weather, fairly dry by tomorrow morning 8:00 a.m. most of the rain should still be off to our west. then we go through the day and i think most of the day tomorrow, we'll kind of be in a little bit of dry slot, later in the evening, near 7:30, it moves closer and late tomorrow into saturday morning, saturday 8:30 in the morning, we'll have some rain around for the morning hours, and some of that could try to linger, but otherwise it's going to get cooler and windy. sunday morning for the eagles game, it's going to be a dry one. so sunday does look like a nice football weather kind of day. tomorrow 77 for the high in philadelphia, 76 south jersey, 70 degrees along the shore, 76 in delaware, delaware is going to have the lowest chance of rain tomorrow, elsewhere i think the best of showers will be later in the day. the best chance of rain in the morning will be for

philadelphia, the suburbs and the lehigh valley, temperatures for your saturday about the upper 50s, big change this weekend, by sunday we're looking at sunny skies and the low 60s for a high. if you're heading to the eagles game, tailgaters expect temperatures around 53 degrees, kickoff 58 degrees, by the fourth quarter temperatures in the low 60s, and the wind we're going to have on saturday, it's not going to be that windy on sunday. there you see your ten-day on ten, we start to dry up as we go through the weekend, and mainly the end of the weekend, and then go into next week, it's going to be another cool one, take a look at these morning lows, some mornings we will be in the upper 30s. closer look at your neighborhood weather coming up. >> that pennsylvania horticultural society along with 125 volunteers planted 20,000 flower bulbs around philadelphia today. it's all to support the 2017 philadelphia flowers show.

>> today philadelphia started enrollment for its free pre-k program. but could a lawsuit stop the new initiative. all the controversy surrounding the soda tax. >> it's how the city plans to pay for that free preschool. >> reporter: the free pre-k is what got the soda tax passed in the first place and the mayor says that a lawsuit will not stop that. in january, the soda tax will help pay for ten more prekinder gartners to attend the jubilee school. >> i think children having a free education is so much more important than being able to buy soda for less money. >> reporter: today the city opened enrollment for 2,000 more

3 and 4-year-olds to attend pre-k for free. but a lawsuit filed by a coalition of businesses and the beverage association threatening to stop the implementation that tax. and they say it's unconstitutional. >> we're not going to city and wait and wait, these kids can't wait anymore. >> reporter: still the mayor's administration is moving full steam ahead. the mayor feels strongly about the city's ability to defend its position. but what if they lose the lawsuit? >> there are contingency plans, i won't lay them out at this point. but this is a priority for us, these plans and we're moving forward with them. >> karen felt built a new addition to expand pre-k. >> if the soda tax doesn't pass and we don't have this, we're going to have to find another way to fund the students. >> reporter: enrollment began today, it's given on a first

degrees, spring city seeing overcast skies, and if you look into the distance, you do notice a little bit of haziness, we have some low clouds out there, and early tomorrow morning we even have some patchy fog. by 7:00 p.m., 69, by 10:00 p.m., so temperatures are not going to fall off quickly, it will be a mild evening. tomorrow morning off to a mild start, just be careful of that rain out there. the rain is moving into western p.a. and i think the majority of this will be moving in late tomorrow night. and in the meantime, take your umbrella with you, we could see isolated showers during the day, and over the weekend, a big cooldown under way. i'll tell you what you can expect especially for the eagles game. some of the top stories we're following on nbc 10 news at 5:00, today crews removed the wreckage of a small plane in south jersey.

it went down yesterday afternoon in a backyard at a home in lindenwold, a 76-year-old pilot and his student remain in the hospital. it is not clear what caused the plane to crash. professors at 14 pennsylvania universities are back on the picket line for the second day. members of the pennsylvania state college faculty went on strike yesterday after the contract negotiations failed. >> during a rally donald trump told supporters that he would accept the election results if he wins. that follows this comment from last night's presidential debate. >> will you make the same commitment that you will absolutely accept the results of this election? >> i will look at it at the time, i'm not looking at anything now, i'll look at it at

overnight into saturday. here's what future weather is showing, notice how we're kind of in a bit of a dry pocket here. showers just off to our west, overcast skies then it starts to move in saturdfriday night into saturday morning. that's saturday 8:30, showers around to start your weekend, cool and windy once all this starts to leave. so your saturday will be noticeably cooler, winds could be gusting near 30 miles an hour. good news is by sunday, it's not going to be as windy and it will be a much drier start for your monday. we're still going to say unseasonably warm, this is a future feels like temperature. so tomorrow many areas still feeling like the 70s, look at what happens when the rain moves through on saturday and that wind starts to pick up. some areas near the lehigh valley saturday morning could
