pennsylvania's state run schools walked off the job on wednesday and they stayed on the picket lines until a ovlittle over an hour ago. >> reporter: it took by two years of fighting but it really came down to three days of striking, and of course this is for the faculty at all three of the pennsylvania state run universities. just a little while ago, the west chester university faculty had a celebration here. it sounds like the teachers are going to give a little bit on the salary and benefits in exchange for a couple hundred sticking points. i talked to an adjunct professor here and students and their professors are going to be together for this important homecoming weekend and they'll be back in class on monday morning. >> stay after school, stay after classes, why can't we stay out

for three days and support them for a good cause. >> reporter: is it going to be a happy come homing? >> it's a happy home coming and we're on. >> reporter: they had replacement athletic trainers and the marching band wasn't going to where able to play because their instructor was on strike. moms and dads who pay tuition to the university are pretty happy the professors are off strike. everybody just wanted to get the kids and the teachesers back in the classroom. and turning to our weather, we're tracking rain on our first alert forecast. this rain will arrive tonight and it will stick around for the start of your weekend. that rainy system is bringing some big temperature changes too. erika martin is tracking it all for us. >> we do have much cooler temperatures, jackie in the works. of course we're picking that up, a change in the forecast today into tomorrow.

notice hour by hour, picking up on those showers as well, as you just mentioned. and we're actually seeing some yellows and some oranges, devoting some heavier pockets of downpours, one or two isolated thunderstorms. tonight by about 10:00, 10:30 p.m., keeping those widespread showers until tomorrow morning. we're not seeing very organized showers, but keep in mind we do have a wet friday night and a wet saturday morning. everything will start to improve for the second half of your weekend. we also have much cooler temperatures, so coming up in my forecast, we'll talk about how we have gone from the 80s into the 60s. generations of failure and neglect are going to be coming to an end when we win this election on november 8. >> donald trump is pushing for pennsylvania at two campaign stops today.

this afternoon he finished his first rally in johnstown. hillary clinton is heading to our area tomorrow as both candidates fixate on this key battleground. they have just 18 days left to win over voters. andrea, donald trump has some ground to make up here in pennsylvania? >> reporter: that's right because all of the polls have him behind here in pennsylvania. so at this point, the voters he really needs to resonate with are women. >> look at all those women for trump signs, i love that. >> reporter: during a campaign stop earlier today in north carolina, donald trump signaled confidence in his support from women. but the polls show otherwise. >> he was close in pennsylvania and then is that state was released and he's having trouble with the woman vote. >> reporter: the comments about multiple allegations of

count on nbc 10 to take you to all the campaign stops. on our app you can also read how state officials are pushing back against allegations of voter fraud in the keystone state. the race for senate is also heating up. incumbent pat toomey was also in philadelphia today. several law enforcement agencies across the state have endorsed toomey. he's running for reelection for the seat he's held in the u.s. senate since 2011. his democratic challenger katy mckgingintcginty- a former aid of governor chris christie, testified that she did inform christie about a traffic study that would close lanes on the george washington bridge. bridget kelly became emotional as she testified. kelly said she told him a month before the closures in 2013.

however she denies anything about the plan to the lanes in retaliation against the port city mayor. just weeks after a deadly new jersey transit train crashed, railroad executives did not show up for a meeting with lawmakers. they were supposed to testify about the railroad's safety status. the nbc 10 investigators found out that a joint legislative committee was supposed to hear from new jersey transit. executive director following last month's accident in hoboken. instead the railroad cancelled late last night they said that meet with federal railroad commissioners. they said they would have gladly rescheduled it. >> the fact that director santor or those who would be in a position to answer questions is disrespect to this committee and it will not be trifled with w.

a delivery truck driver makes a gruesome discovery early this morning hichbehind a kensin laundrom laundromat. police sources who canvassed the area for clues and surveillance video. people who live in the neighborhood are scared for the welfare of their. th they called the dirt road where the body was found pbehind the laundromat drug alley. >> it brings feel to my heart because knowing that the city has a battle on their hands and there's no help for the community. >> nbc 10 took those concerns to police say they are listening and tell them they should reach out to report crimes before discoveries like this.

there are no arrests. a new jersey man who called every parents worst internet nightmare will spend six years in prison. judge sentenced kaplan on child porn charges. he used a game to manipulate girls younger than the age of 16. police are searching for a couple of toy thieves at toys "r" us stores between new jersey and maryland. the couple has ties to the ocean city area. the pair swiped tens of thousands of items from toys "r" us stores and returned them to other stores. is it excessive force? a police officer kicks a suspect in the face breaking his jaw. while the allentown police department is defending it's

million in a lawsuit. his testimony eventually helped convict sandusky of child sex abuse. penn state put mccreary on leave the week sandusky was charged. an allentown police officer breaks a suspect's jaw by kicking him in the face and the incident is caught in this video. now the suspect is suing for excessive force. allentown police have defended the officer saying he was well trained. but our security expert says kicking in that situation is not typical in police training. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal joins us to break it down. >> reporter: that officer, a 14-year veteran of the allentown force, the force says he's well trained and he's even received wards for saving lives, but he's also been accused of excessive force in the past.

the arrest of this armed suspect, the video you're about to see has sparked accusations of misconduct. allentown police pull over a man who just robbed a strip club at gunpoint. you see hector medina pena get out of his suv. he briefly reached for his. the police officers gleebed he had a weapon. >> he has his hands up, gets down on all fours in a prone defenseless position. >> seconds later, officer joseph rya ryanetta runs over. >> pena's attorney says that kick was excessive and his jaw was broken. the same officer appears to put his knee in pena's head.

>> you don't need to incapacitate a person who's being compliant and break his jaw because you may have some other of other fears. >> pena remains in prison but filed a federal civil rights lawsuit. allentown says the force was appropriate, saying the officer was well trained and the suspect repeatedly reached toward his waistband and didn't follow orders. nbc 10 showed this video to our security expert, a former cop who says it's clear the overs had concerns about a gun, but he questions that kick. >> whoever taught that tactic, you want to control the suspect, you want to make sure you have officer safety, but that is definitely beyond the scope of the threat-force continuum. >> the investigators cleared that officer of any wrong doing, they say evidence will show he act properly, but that lawsuit claims the suspect's constitutional rights were violated.

shot over philadelphia, notice those clouds are developing in the vertical system. this means rain showers are on the approach certainly in the next couple of hours, otherwise here's our satellite radar image, picking up some greens on the screen here, also seeing some oranges and some reds, one or two isolated thunderstorms. if you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see your local neighborhood forecast. locally right now we're seeing some greens pushing from west to east. so our weather stories include, mainly dry height right now with those clouds developing, isolated thunder, especially for the lehigh valley. increasing wind speeds and wind gusts, keep in mind temperatures will be in the 50s, but with wind gusts topping out at about 40, 45 miles an hour. it's going to be a lot cooler than 50 degrees.
