>> i'm jim rosenfield. kathleen kane was taken right to prison in eagleville. the montgomery county judge handed down the punishment after the jury found her guilty over the summer. kane will serve ten to 23 months in jail. nbc 10's deanna durante followed the entire trial and spent today in court. >> i know one of kane's children even testified, calling her his rock. >> reporter: her oldest son. he's 15 years old, and he was in the court when the sentence was handed down. kane was taken from here to the montgomery county prison and we have just learned that she has posted bail and could be released within the hour. she was the top law enforcement official in the state. tonight she was an inmate. kathleen kane brought forward more than two dozen supporters. many wrote letters and spoke to a judge asking for mercy, saying despite her crime, she's done a lot of good in her life. the youngest character witness, her 15-year-old son who told the judge it would be bad for his family if his mother went to

jail. but the judge told kane she was not thinking about her kids when she lied to a grand jury and leaked secret documents. she told kane she was thinking about herself and her overly inflated ego. a staff member told the judge that working under kane was a battle zone. during the trial she arrived flanked by state agents. she gave up the security detail when she resigned from office in the days after her conviction. tonight she had one more police escort -- this one to the county prison. and again, the judge did raise her bail. her attorneys say that her conviction right now will go through the appeals process, and pennsylvania law allows for her to be released on bail while the appeal is taking place. deanna durante, nbc 10 news. decision 2016.

voters will decide who fills kathleen kane's seat permanently. josh shapiro faces off with john rafferty. voters have two weeks now to make up their mind. we're 15 days until election day on november 8th. more than 6.5 million americans have in fact already voted, as both presidential candidates hit the campaign trail today. hillary clinton went after trump for his comments from last week's debate. and she got some help from a popular senator. clinton was join by elizabeth warren at a rally in new hampshire this afternoon. warren went after trump for calling clinton, quote, a nasty woman. the democratic nominee spoke about trump's accusation that the election is rigged. >> to say to the world what it means to have an unqualified commander in chief. it's not only wrong, it's dangerous. and it needs to be repudiated on

november the 8th. >> clinton encouraged voters to support other democratic candidates running across the country. donald trump continued his campaign swing through the battleground state of florida today, saying he believes he's winning the race. this afternoon the republican nominee held a rally in st. augustine, his second stop of the day. he once again claimed the election could be stolen from him. he says the wikileaks hack shows clinton is rigging the polls. >> these phony polls, and rig the media, they can wield absolute power over your life, your economy, and your country. >> in less than an hour, trump will hold another rally in tampa. new at 6:00, a teenaged girl with mental disabilities kidnapped and forced to be a sex slave. nbc 10's brendan hudson has new details on this human

trafficking case. brandon? >> reporter: it all began when it was investigated as a missing persons case. the mom reported her 17-year-old mentally disabled daughter as a runaway. then she was sought as a kidnapping victim. turner was in mercer county court for a bail hearing. that's where we learned more about the disturbing details about what happened to this teenaged girl, what she says happened. prosecutors say the 17-year-old was forced to perform sexual acts on several different men over the weekend. one of the encounters was videotaped. when the teen said she tried to leave, he threatened to kill her. she claims he gave her a mixture which made her woozy. the prosecutors believe turner made $400 off of her.

his court date is not yet set. brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. temple university police is changing its protocol to improve safety on campus after friday night when a large group of 200 young people created chaos in northeast philadelphia. at least three people were attacked and robbed. a teenager even punched a police horse in the face. officers charged him with an assault on police. at least three other teens were arrested. and just a short time ago we spoke with the father of one of the students who was beaten. >> i'm appalled by it. the fact that they unmercifully chased down so many people and beat her, i just can't even fathom. my heart dropped when i found out. as a father, it was my worst nightmare, to get that call. >> today temple police telling nbc 10 it plans to double the force on weekends for the rest of the semester. a thief damaged the historic stairs at the union league in

center city. the crook targeted the brass railing and bricks, and stones went tumbling down the sidewalk. the union league says the vandal was caught on camera. nbc 10's lauren mayk joins us live from center city on the damage to this historic staircase. lauren? >> reporter: jacqueline, they are are working into the evening here tonight, trying to deal with this mess. take a look. you can see behind me the work that they have started to do. and over there, you can see crews strapping in pieces of these stone stairs to be taken away. all of this came crumbling down when someone ripped off that brass railing and got away with a piece of history. outside the historic brick building on broad street, it's not just that there's something missing. it's that when that brass railing came off, part of the structure came down. neighbors and passersby stopped to stare at the mess. >> how did they do that? >> reporter: erika martin from the union league tells us they

know how it happened. >> you could see him ripping it from the structure and causing the entire structure to collapse. >> reporter: the building was constructed in 1865 for the union league founded during the civil war. over the years, it's been the site of fancy events. just recently presidential candidate donald trump visited. then there are the weddings like the one joe ma garr itty went to this past weekend. >> there was a wedding here on saturday, it was fine. to see the whole railing come down like this, it's upsetting to see somebody would damage a place of such significance. >> reporter: it's a landmark in the city, now in need of repair. >> what could they get for half of a railing, which is about what they took, versus that thing, which has been here since 1865? >> reporter: in addition to someone just being able to somehow rip that railing right off, the other thing that is amazing here is just how far they walked with it, all the way down the block here, and then

around the corner down here on more avian, carrying what was a six-foot piece of metal. the representative from the union league tells me it may have been to sell for scrap metal. they don't know. but what they do know is it caused a lot of damage. live in center city, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. to our weather now, chilly and windy outside this afternoon. but the sun helped today. >> the sun does make a difference, doesn't it? nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the weather in your neighborhood. >> we got up to 65 today, now down to 62 in philadelphia. a nice sunset coming. we're already in the 50s across most of the area. 56 in parts of the lehigh valley. we're just beginning, you can see the wind is still fairly significant, about 10 to 15, 18-mile-an-hour wind in wilmington right now. that's sustained wind, not just

a gust. we'll have gusts during the day tomorrow. look at the temperature in the afternoon. like i said, 65 today. about ten degrees colder than that tomorrow. it's starting off pretty chilly too. look at some of the suburbs. temperatures in the 30s with a little bit of wind, making it feel like it's close to the freezing mark. everybody is dry tomorrow. everybody is chilly tomorrow. i'll let you know when the rain is coming and the coldest weather with the rest of the forecast in a few minutes. >> all right, glenn. the strike is over, and today it was back to class for 100,000 college students in pennsylvania. the 14 state-owned universities returned to normal today. professors walked off the job last wednesday at cheney, kutztown, and westchester universities, after bargaining efforts failed. the union representing 5,000 teachers and coaches reached a tentative agreement with the state system of higher education on friday. the new contract gives raises

for employees but also requires them to pick up more of their health care costs. there is a court battle brewing in new jersey over standardized tests. several civil rights and parent advocacy groups filed a lawsuit on friday to block the state's requirement that students must pass two tests to graduate high school. the suit claims the new rule violates the state's graduation laws. the state mandate would begin for students who are currently in eighth grade. for the second day, one of the defendants in the bridgegate trial accused governor chris christie about knowing more about what happened than he claims. bridget kelly says she told christie during the lane closures that the ft. lee mayor expressed concern that it was political retribution. the governor has denied having any knowledge of the lane closures as they were going on back in 2013. and he's not been charged. kelly and co-defendant bill baroni are accused of plotting to close the lanes after the mayor refused to endorse christie. right now to a fast food flap. employees at a philadelphia burger place went on facebook live. they threatened to mop the floors with hamburger buns while bragging about spitting in food. >> facebook lit up with comments and today, checkers took quick action. it closed the restaurant and says it is firing the workers. nbc 10's tim furlong reports from west oak lane. >> wash the floor with these. >> reporter: it's possible that checkers employees was just joking during his facebook live video, but he talked about doing stuff to food that regulars here hope they never did. >> i think that's crazy. >> reporter: we saw him light a cigar on the video. >> somebody said i'm calling the hotline number to get you record reported. >> get us reported, baby. >> reporter: he got his wish. they were reported and are now being fired. today no food was being served. >> i can't comment. >> reporter: are you guys closed because of the video?

>> i can give you a number to call. >> reporter: this checkers is locally owned. but they referred us to corporate headquarters. the company sent us a statement saying the behavior of these employees does not meet our high standards for food preparation and guest service. the company also tells us late last night the local franchisee ma made the decision to close the restaurant down so it could be sanitized and the remaining employees retrained. we pulled a health inspection. in late september they were found to be out of compliance on a number of fronts including hygiene and food storage. >> i went there a number of times. ain't no bug in my food. >> reporter: now it will be up to customers whether to give them another shot. >> it's all about my daughter. and i'm just not can omfortable with it. >> reporter: in west oak lane, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. >> we blurred the employees' faces because nbc 10 wasn't able to contact them directly before

our deadline. in the past ten minutes, one of the people who says he was involved in that video called her newsroom and said the video was meant as a joke and says he's sorry for any harm he caused. you can read his comments on the nbc 10 app. a boardwalk makeover in wildwood. >> the jersey shore town's mayor wants the city to spend about $20 million to repair a 15-block section. mayor ernie traino says the street is in bad shape. the boards have been in place since 1926. if the city approves the new boardwalk, it would pay for it with bonds, grants, and loans. the mayor hopes to start the project next year if he gets the green light. it was warm enough to walk the boards this afternoon. >> but it will get chillier really soon. nbc first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with your weather. >> here's the proof of that, the flag is blowing hard in a colder wind moving through from the west.

the temperature is dropping into the 50s in part of the area. 58 in reading, 54 in fleetwood. 55 in bethlehem and easton. the sun hasn't even totally gone down yet. we're still getting gusts of 20 to 30 miles an hour. coatesville, 26 miles an hour gust. no, sir as strong as it was earlier, but still fairly significant, bringing some of the moisture down from the great lakes, closing some source in western pennsylvania but not around here. the rest of the east is pretty dry. we'll definitely be dry tomorrow. but we'll be a lot colder. we got up to 65 degrees today. by tomorrow morning we're talking about temperatures in the 30s. plus a little bit of wind making it feel closer to 30 degrees. by tomorrow afternoon, we're barely into the mid-50s, if that. plus it's windy. so it is going to be a chilly day tomorrow. and that sets us up for tomorrow night with the frost.

temperatures getting down into the mid-30s in philadelphia. 30, perhaps even upper 20s in some parts of the lehigh valley that are the traditional cold spots. so frost and a hard freeze in some parts of the area. then wednesday afternoon is not any warmer. as a matter of fact, just barely getting to 50 in some areas. thursday, look what's coming. we've got a front coming with a good amount of rain. and could possibly start off as a little bit of snow in the poconos. as you go through the night tonight, look at these temperatures going down. everybody's clear. but everybody is also going to be cold. and even colder tomorrow night. 36 in philadelphia, closer to 30 in many of the suburbs. the rain on thursday, a little bit milder. friday is dry. look at saturday, 68 degrees.
