tracking storms. nbc 10 first alert radar shows heavy rain, hail and lightning moving into the area. how long the severe weather will stick around. eagles versus the cowboys. the nfc rivals face off in prime time with first place on the line. mattress to the rescue. a man jumps ow s out of a home it goes up in flames and lands on a mattress. we talk to a witness who saw it all go down. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 6:00, nbc 10 first alert radar is tracking storms moving into our area, bringing the potential for severe weather. you see some dark storm clouds over the city of philadelphia right now. the storm is heading this way and should be here within minutes if you aren't already

seeing it. erika martin is tracking the conditions in your first alert neighborhood forecast. you'll sees lightning and hail. >> that's right. we have an active evening in the forecast. our live shot from the comcast tower. this is a great shot, the money shot, if you will. you can actually see the cloud deck there. the storm cell. the wall of rain and some thunderstorms. lightning, as well. be mindful of that, especially if you're headed in this direction. the winds are starting to kick up a bit. in fact, we do have some storm reports that have been issued by the national weather service. keep that in mind. first alert, we have rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for philly and the surrounding counties. new jersey and delaware. until 10:0 p.0 p.m. when the frontal boundary moves southeast of us. we can expect heavy rainfall, hail, rounds of isolated thunderstorms. if you look at the bottom of your screen, you'll see your local neighborhood forecast. doppler radar picking up on the lines of storms, the embedded storms and lightning stretches.

i'll zoom in a little bit. you can see some oranges and reds, denoting the pockets of heavier downpours and the lightning strikes. in my full weather report, i have more to talk about, including the ten day on 10. now to a sunday night showdown. the philadelphia eagles have a i rivalled at at&t stadium for their face off with the dallas cowboys. there is a lot of pressure on the birds tonight. a win would move them into the top spot in the nfc east. nbc 10 is your official eagles station. tonight, we have team coverage of the sunday night showdown. we begin with john clark, live at the stadium. john, how is the team feeling ahead of tonight's game? >> they are ready, denise. they are ready for primetime. as you said, first place is on the line. this is going to be an introduction for the eagles rookies to a great rivalry between the eagles and cowboys. it is a very special game for eagles rookie cornerback jalen mills. he is from dallas so this is a

homecoming for him. his nfl debut in his home city. it is also huge for him and his family. his grandmother lives here, and she helped raise him. she has not been able to see him play live in person since the sixth grade because she had bronchitis and had a lung transplant. she is finally been cleared to see him play. she will be here tonight. i talked with jalen as he arrived in dallas. he cannot wait to see her. >> she hasn't been able to see me play since aix grasixth grad. she had bronchitis and lung surgery. she was cleared by the doctor maybe two month ago. she called me and told me. >> how special is that going to be, for her to be able to see you in person for your nfl return to your home state? >> everything. you know, she's my heart. i mean, i love her to death. just for her to call me and i can hear how happy she was, for her to finally be able to

someone walking along reservoir drive made the discovery this a afternoon. the medical examiner came to pick up the body. no word on a cause of death. a mattress becomes a life-saving tool when a philadelphia home goes up in flames today. nbc 10 was at the scene on ellis screen in kensington moments after crews put out the flames this afternoon. a witness says a person jumped out of the two-story building to escape the fire. that's when he said two men held a mattress to catch the falling victim. >> he's jumping. didn't get hurt or nothing. >> the victim was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition. we are now over a day away from a possible septa drive. tonight, we've learned both sides are at the negotiating table. it is not clear if they'll be able to reach a deal to prevent crippling philadelphia's mass transit system. drew smith has the latest on the negotiations from center city.

>> it's been quiet down here at the hotel. we haven't seen the people involved in these talks coming in or out. we're told they're busy behind closed doors, trying to work out a deal. it is still unclear if subway, bus and trolley drivers will be at work tuesday morning. >> reporter: kim says septa is her lifeline. today, she waited for the trolley in university city, somewhat sympathizing with the union workers holding out in a pension, health care and working conditions disagreement. >> i kind of support them in that, but septa, please don't go on strike. please work it out. >> reporter: nervousness is also rising at the transportation centers. with one day left before the union's contract expires. bad memories are coming back, too. >> i remember one time, they went on strike for a long time and people were car pooling. >> reporter: passengers are already weighing costly alternatives. >> only plan i can think of is renting a car. >> reporter: the mayor predicted

the state's new gas tax increase of 23 cents per gallon is set to take effect tuesday, november 1st. it'll help pay for transportation projects. new jersey currently has the second lowest gas prices in the country, but with this increase, it'll become the sixth highest tax. coming up in my forecast, i have the storms on dop tpler r r radar. i'll track those and tell you when they'll get to your neighborhood. details after the break.

once the frontal boundary is southeast. what to expect, heavy rain and hail. very dark skies and wild rounds of thunderstorms. doppler radar, we are picking up on several storm damage reports issued by the national weather service. notice for philadelphia, just seeing downed trees, lightning strikes, as well. keep in mind all these showers and the thunderstorms are headed in this direction. things are moving quickly. another five to ten minutes, center city, you'll see some more rounds of thunderstorms, as the storm cells approach closer to the northwest to the southeast. notice the reds and the -- actually, the dark reds right here and the lightning strikes picking up on those strong thunderstorms. again, approaching from the northwest or the southeast. we had a warm day today. the frontal boundary had a lot to feed off as the storms are on the approach. otherwise, doppler radar picking up on lots of cells just to the north of us, as well. give yourself a little extra time. we have severe weather. though the national weather
