asking for round the clock talks. negotiations have been under way in philadelphia. midnight is the deadline to reach a deal. nbc 10's drew smith joins us live in center city. drew, so many people are worried about this, they rely upon septa for transportation. where do they stand right now? >> reporter: well, we just walked out of the sheraton hotel after a news conference. here is the bottom line from that. septa wants its workers to say on the job while negotiations continue. they admit they're not close to a deal right now. but we just reached out to the union for their response to that. and a spokesman said, quote, that is ridiculous, septa has known about this for months and it is looking increasingly likely the city's transit system will be coming to a halt in just a matter of hours. a septa bus driver was still driving with a smile today. but it's unclear if she and about 5,000 other bus, trolley, and subway workers will be on the job tomorrow. >> we really need them to stay.

>> reporter: the transport workers union is prepared for a midnight strike, protesting pension, health, and workplace issues. now pennsylvania's governor and philly's mayor are watching closely, in contact with both sides but not directly involved in the talks. >> people need to get to work and get where they're going. it disrupts everybody's lives. students, workers, everybody. >> reporter: hundreds of thousands of riders depend on the system. >> i'm going to go down to dollar tree and stock up, because i don't have a way to get anywhere. >> reporter: now they could be left with few alternatives. >> we'll be carpooling or whatever we have to do. >> reporter: the city is predicting traffic, gridlock, and delays getting to work and school. septa acknowledges the possibility of a strike is nearing fast. it won't be easy to deal with. >> i'm hoping to hear good news when i go to bed tonight. >> reporter: for those people who may be taking bus service later tonight, we asked would there be a scaling back of that

service. right now it doesn't look that way. you have to remember, at midnight, those buses will be heading back to a depot if the strike moves forward, you could be stranded. live in center city, drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> drew, we'll check back with you if anything changes in the next half hour, thank you. in response to the possible strike, uber says they're expanding service throughout the philadelphia area. that includes at and near all regional rail stations. the ride sharing service allows you to share a car with other riders. >> we'll be following the septa negotiations throughout the night. look for the latest updates on the nbc 10 app and on nbc10.com. to decision 2016 now, just eight days left before voters head to the polls. the main topic of conversation continues to center around the fbi's investigation into hillary clinton's e-mails. despite that, a new nbc news/survey monkey poll shows clinton maintaining her lead

over donald trump. there are the numbers on your screen. clinton has 47% to trump's 41% in a four-way matchup, as the fbi is now searchering through some 650,000 e-mails on former congressman anthony weiner's computer. the e-mails involve weiner's wo wife, huma abedin, a top clinton aide. fbi director james comey sent a letter to congress saying some of the e-mails could be relevant to the clinton case. clinton addressed the issue at a rally at kent state university. she questioned the fbi's decision. >> now they apparently want to look at e-mails of one of my staffers. and by all means they should look at them. and i am sure they will reach the same conclusion they did when they looked at my e-mails for the last year. there is no case here.

>> clinton has called on the fbi to release more details about the new e-mails before the election. donald trump was on the attack, campaigning on michigan today at this rally in grand rapids. the republican nominee praised the fbi director's decision to look at the new e-mails. he also continued to claim the system is corrupt. >> hillary is not the victim. the american people are the victims of this corrupt system in every way. and this is your one chance right now, november 8th, to change it. >> trump also encouraged fbi director james comey to, quote, hang tough and follow through on the investigation. tonight, two of the top democratic leaders are in philadelphia. vice president joe biden and minority leader nancy pelosi are speaking at a democratic dinner. we have a live picture for you now where you can see vice president biden speaking. this event is at the sheet metal

workers hall on columbus boulevard. both biden and pelosi is addressing the importance of pennsylvania in this upcoming election with eight days left to go. we'll have full coverage of today's democratic event and what biden and pelosi are saying, on nbc 10 news at 11:00. tomorrow donald trump and his running mate mike pence will make a push for votes in p.a. they'll be speaking at king of prussia at 11:00 tomorrow morning. on thursday, trump's wife melania will deliver a speech in suburban philadelphia, no exact location has been given yet. both candidates are throwing everything they have at winning pennsylvania. coming up, nbc 10's lauren mayk takes a look at how they're getting their message out. we're now hearing the audit of 911 calls made by the shooter in the orlando nightclub massacre. those calls capture the conversation the gunman had with police. nbc 10's keith jones is joining us live with the details. keith? >> news entities have been

fighting with the city of orlando to release 600 calls associated with the massacre. they want to put together a timeline of the response to the attack by police. the city says some of the calls are too graphic and don't need to be released. here is some of what the judge released today. >> by the way, there's some vehicle outside that has some bombs, just to let you know. these people are going to get it and i'm going to ignite it if they try to do anything stupid. >> okay, i understand that, and i'll pass that along. can you tell me what vehicle because i don't want to see anybody get hurt. >> no. but i'll tell you this, it can take out a whole city block almost. >> omar mateen made that call during the rampage back in june. at one point he pledged allegiance to isis. he was later killed in a shootout with police. 49 people were killed in the attack. there were more than 200 other calls that have not been

places less than five miles per hour. we'll be dropping three degrees by 9:00. in the suburbs, down to 45 degrees by 9:00. lehigh valley down to 41 degrees. 46 degrees by 7:00, in another hour, as the sun sets and it's totally dark by 6:30, the temperature really plunges, new jersey shore down to 51 degrees at 7:00, 48 degrees at 9:00. we'll let you know how warm it's going to get when the warm-up happens in just a few minutes. you have a few more hours to fill your tank in new jersey before the restastate's gas tax takes effect. new jersey will go from having the second lowest fuel tax in the nation to the sixth highest. we found plenty of people filling up before the change takes effect. >> people can't afford big vacations. but you can afford a trip to the

playground or aquarium or the zoo. but now you have to factor in gas too. it is going to be making a big difference in people's lives. >> state lawmakers approved the gas tax hike to help pay for transportation projects. a bucks county man found living with 12 girls is facing five more counts of rape and sexual assault. lee kaplan of bucks county is now accused of victimizing six amish sisters who police say he hid inside his feasterville home. police initially arrested him back in june. investigators say the girls, now ages 8 to 18, were given to kaplan as a gift by the girl's parents in exchange for him saving the familiaraly from finl ruin. kaplan has two daughters with the oldest victim. investigators say he brainwashed the family, calling himself a prophet from god to earn their trust. the alleged abuse dates back eight years for the older girls and began under their parents' roof. kaplan's attorney says these are allegations and not yet proven. >> he has had them at his beck

and call over many, many years. what we've now been able to do is hopefully gain their trust and allow us to put an end to this man's reign of terror over them once and for all. >> kaplan's attorney says these are allegations, as we told you, not yet proven. both of the parents in this case are charged with child endangerment. kaplan's bail has been doubled to $2 million. messages of support. both presidential campaigns have people out in force in pennsylvania. how they're working to get out the vote. heartbreak for the eagles. the birds' coach talks about what's being done to right the ship after their overtime loss.

campaigns are getting out the vote with door knocking and phone calls, getting their voters to the polls. >> i'm worried about the looming septa strike, people might have to catch the bus to the polls. i'm worried about that. >> reporter: regardless of a strike, hillary clinton's get out the vote plan does include rides for voters to the polls, along with contacting thousands of voters who pledged to vote for clinton. donald trump's campaign also reaching out to voters. the final week's push will include an appearance by trump and his running mate in king of prussia, and a speech by his wife in the philly burbs. >> it's a sad, sad state, that's all i can say. >> reporter: you don't like your options? >> not at all. >> reporter: is there anything either side could say this last week to convince you to go out and vote for them? >> no.

46 in bath. look what's coming, mid- to upper 80s in the middle of the country. these are record high temperatures. a little piece of that is coming this way by the middle of the week. it's not going to stay cold for long, that's for sure. we have some high thin clouds coming in. the closest rain is in the upper peninsula, michigan, and north dakota. we're not exactly about to get rained on here. here we are, as we go through tomorrow and into wednesday. it's staying dry. all through the day wednesday it's going to be really warm. wednesday is going to be a lot like sunday was. and then thursday may be a lot like sunday afternoon. here we go. thursday afternoon, showers, maybe some thunderstorms coming through. that's the only rain we're expecting for the rest of the week. overnight tonight, down into the 30s.

starting at 37, going up to 62. today's high was 57. 33 in schwenksville in the morning. allentown, 38, going up to 49. 36 in egg harbor city for the low. but long port on the ocean is going to be not nearly as cold. and newark, delaware, down to 39 degrees before going into the 60s during the afternoon. here's the seven-day forecast. you can see, look at the low temperature go up. the atmosphere is really going to warm up over the next couple of days here. 72 degrees on wednesday. 76 on thursday. that's when the showers, maybe some thunderstorms come in. it's another cold front that's going to drop the temperature. friday is going to be a lot like today. the weather kind of repeating itself a little bit here. over the weekend, we're in pretty good shape. it looks dry, but some big events here. the heart walk on saturday morning. we turn our clocks back saturday
