are in store for cool weather. good morning. i am chris wragge. >> and i am mary calvi. we begin with a scare on campus. >> new information this morning on the lockdown in westchester. last night, students told to stay inside while police searched for a possible armed man on campus. we are live with more this morning. >> reporter: good morning, chris and mary. students will be able to go back to class. those who live and work on campus will be able to get back to business this morning but it's a far cry from what happened right here last night. during the heightened safety alert, students and staff were told to stay indoor as police searched the campus. >> they are undergoing a search for an alleged suspect who was armed and reportedly fled the campus. >> reporter: around 8:00 last night before the campus wide safety alert, video was shot by a person in the apartments.

you can hear multiple people arguing and discussing what's unfolding in front of them. >> he's got a gun on him. >> get down. >> i don't have -- >> get down. >> get down. >> reporter: shortly after hearing the conversation, you can see a man running away, no word if that's the person alleged to have a gun -- >> we have no reports of any shots fired on campus. >> reporter: college officials say no one was injured. in their search, police set up check points at entrances and exits of the college. every car was inspected. they did not find the person who was allegedly carrying the firearm. >> all the information that we have right now supports that the person fled the campus through the woods. >> reporter: the campus has been checked and cleared. last night the administration assured students and faculty that the school is safe. >> we are anticipating a full start of classes, regular

front, ted cruz is closing in on donald trump's delegate count after sweeping all 14 wyoming delegates at the state's convention. trump rallying on staten island isn't phased. >> well, it's a rigged election. i can't imagine any new yorker voting the cruz. >> reporter: ohio governor john kasich dismissed trump's allegations that the gop process is rigged. >> it's the way it works. it's like saying i made an 83 on my math test and i should get an a because i think it's rigged because you have to make a 90 to get an a. >> reporter: cruz is in second place with 21% and kasich last with 19% but cruz's camp is hopeful trump's hometown advantage won't be enough to clinch the nomination. >> it's easy to talk about making america great again.

but the real question is, do you understand the principals and values that made america great in the first place? >> bernie sanders will visit long island city. and john kasich is upstate. growing concerns about violent homeless people after a times square worker is attacked on the job. police say the 26-year-old stabbed a times square maintenance worker in the neck with a pair of scissors yesterday morning on the corner of 47th and 8th avenue. the homeless man was then arrested in the violent robbery attempt. regs say they're concerned. >> there's a lot of mentally ill here and they need help. i wouldn't say people need to be afraid but just be aware of your surroundings. >> the nypd is searching for another homeless man in a bloody murder on friday.

four officers discharged their weapons in yesterday's fatal police shooting in queens. police say plain clothed officer approached a man on 135th street as he stood outside holding an open bottle of alcohol. and investigators say the man started to flee despite commands to. so they say he reached for a gun -- commands to stop and they say he reached their gun and they fired. >> someone lost a family member and it's not cool. >> family members have identified the man as a father of five visiting from maryland. new video of a wild fight outside a brooklyn restaurant. a group of men seen swinging bar stools during a brawl outside on myrtle avenue. police say the group punched, kicked and stabbed a 26-year- old man. that man is now in critical condition at the hospital. police say they are looking for

say he slashed a man in bronx. it happened just before 4:00 saturday morning. the hunts point section is where it happened. the victim was cut on the face. he is expected to be okay. it's a request that can lead to arrest, asking a stranger for a swipe of their metro card in order to ride the subway but now the nypd says officer will no longer take people into custody and will issue tickets instead. the new york times says the policy change follows a decision by the attorney not to prosecute people for minor infractions. the district attorney says it will free up police and reduce unnecessary arrests. the u.s. supreme court will hear arguments today on president barack obama's plan to overhaul the nation's immigration rules. the court is expected to rule on the president's executive order that would spare more than 4 million undocumented immigrants from deportation and give them work permits. now to the devastating

welcome back. following breaking news, a fire in bayonne new jersey. jim smith live in chopper 2 with tails. >> reporter: chris, the fire is in a home along west 26th street near avenue b. it broke out around 6:00. it's now a two-alarm fire. we can see flames coming through the roof. firefighters have now begun to put water into the building. it's a multiple level building that we do not know how many people were inside the home. we believe the home has been evacuated.

it broke out about 6:00. we can tell new the last 10 minute, the amount of flames going through the roof of the building greatly increased. in the last five minute, the fire department has been able to get more water into the fire. more hoses brought into the scene. a tower ladder also brought up to the home. and it appeared there were concerns of the fire spreading to two of the adjacent homes. we noticed the fire department was spreading water on to the homes nearby. no injuries have been reported. the cause of the fire not known. again, a multiple-story home along west 26th street in bayonne. firefighters continue to try to get the situation under control. jim smith, cbs 2 news. >> yeah, you can see flames in the mid and will the back part as it continues to burn. we will get back to you shortly. thank you. new this morning, surveillance video just released of an armed robbery in east new york.
