are in store for cool weather. good morning. i am chris wragge. >> and i am mary calvi. we begin with a scare on campus. >> new information this morning on the lockdown in westchester. last night, students told to stay inside while police searched for a possible armed man on campus. we are live with more this morning. >> reporter: good morning, chris and mary. students will be able to go back to class. those who live and work on campus will be able to get back to business this morning but it's a far cry from what happened right here last night. during the heightened safety alert, students and staff were told to stay indoor as police searched the campus. >> they are undergoing a search for an alleged suspect who was armed and reportedly fled the campus. >> reporter: around 8:00 last night before the campus wide safety alert, video was shot by a person in the apartments.

you can hear multiple people arguing and discussing what's unfolding in front of them. >> he's got a gun on him. >> get down. >> i don't have -- >> get down. >> get down. >> reporter: shortly after hearing the conversation, you can see a man running away, no word if that's the person alleged to have a gun -- >> we have no reports of any shots fired on campus. >> reporter: college officials say no one was injured. in their search, police set up check points at entrances and exits of the college. every car was inspected. they did not find the person who was allegedly carrying the firearm. >> all the information that we have right now supports that the person fled the campus through the woods. >> reporter: the campus has been checked and cleared. last night the administration assured students and faculty that the school is safe. >> we are anticipating a full start of classes, regular

[ applause ] >> reporter: hillary rodham clinton let loose campaigning in washington heights sunday, hoping for a victory dance in her home state on primary day. the latest battleground tracker poll has clinton leading sanders 53% to 43%, making an appearance on staten island, clinton tried to appeal to both parties out thing herself as a candidate who could reach across party lines to get things done. >> i will seek common ground but stand my ground. that's the combination you want in an elected representative.

front, ted cruz is closing in on donald trump's delegate count after sweeping all 14 wyoming delegates at the state's convention. trump rallying on staten island isn't phased. >> well, it's a rigged election. i can't imagine any new yorker voting the cruz. >> reporter: ohio governor john kasich dismissed trump's allegations that the gop process is rigged. >> it's the way it works. it's like saying i made an 83 on my math test and i should get an a because i think it's rigged because you have to make a 90 to get an a. >> reporter: cruz is in second place with 21% and kasich last with 19% but cruz's camp is hopeful trump's hometown advantage won't be enough to clinch the nomination. >> it's easy to talk about making america great again.

but the real question is, do you understand the principals and values that made america great in the first place? >> bernie sanders will visit long island city. and john kasich is upstate. growing concerns about violent homeless people after a times square worker is attacked on the job. police say the 26-year-old stabbed a times square maintenance worker in the neck with a pair of scissors yesterday morning on the corner of 47th and 8th avenue. the homeless man was then arrested in the violent robbery attempt. regs say they're concerned. >> there's a lot of mentally ill here and they need help. i wouldn't say people need to be afraid but just be aware of your surroundings. >> the nypd is searching for another homeless man in a bloody murder on friday.

four officers discharged their weapons in yesterday's fatal police shooting in queens. police say plain clothed officer approached a man on 135th street as he stood outside holding an open bottle of alcohol. and investigators say the man started to flee despite commands to. so they say he reached for a gun -- commands to stop and they say he reached their gun and they fired. >> someone lost a family member and it's not cool. >> family members have identified the man as a father of five visiting from maryland. new video of a wild fight outside a brooklyn restaurant. a group of men seen swinging bar stools during a brawl outside on myrtle avenue. police say the group punched, kicked and stabbed a 26-year- old man. that man is now in critical condition at the hospital. police say they are looking for

just to the west, and even parts of the hudson valley, you will see 80 today. not unprecedented but well above normal. nice and clear and bright right now. here's the big ridge of high pressure. flooding rains through texas and oklahoma. they have cleared the snow from the front range of the rockies but it can't break through. and finally we see evidence of a change tonight with some clouds. could even see drizzle tomorrow morning. that's about it. and then the front does break through, basically just results in some cooler temperatures. i think it's a little bit more pronounced into new england but we will see the numbers retreat as we work our way into the middle part of the week. 78, cooler along the coast, warmer to the west. overnight tonight, you're looking at 54 out the door. the chance of a light shower north. odds are not low. but it ushers in cooler readings. coolest day wednesday and rain back by friday which we need. you need to get there on time. it's monday, what's going on?

an admissions error is causing controversy. the university mistakenningly notified more than 5,000 students that they were send even though their applications had not been fully reviewed. the school sent a second email about three hours late area poll apologizing for the mistake. stock futures are down today. the dow is up 1.8% on the week. in friday's session, energy companies sank with the price of oil. the dow jones industrial average lost 28 points. the nasdaq composite dropped by 7. the s&p 500 lost by 2. today is tax and a millions of americans face a midnight deadline to file their income tax returns with the irs. the traditional april 15th deadline was moved giving taxpayers an extra three days to file. it remembers president abraham lincoln's signing of the dc emancipation act back in 1826.

say he slashed a man in bronx. it happened just before 4:00 saturday morning. the hunts point section is where it happened. the victim was cut on the face. he is expected to be okay. it's a request that can lead to arrest, asking a stranger for a swipe of their metro card in order to ride the subway but now the nypd says officer will no longer take people into custody and will issue tickets instead. the new york times says the policy change follows a decision by the attorney not to prosecute people for minor infractions. the district attorney says it will free up police and reduce unnecessary arrests. the u.s. supreme court will hear arguments today on president barack obama's plan to overhaul the nation's immigration rules. the court is expected to rule on the president's executive order that would spare more than 4 million undocumented immigrants from deportation and give them work permits. now to the devastating

declared a national emergency after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit on saturday. the death toll now stands at 272 and the number is expected to rise. we spoke to the local community in queens. >> reporter: these haunting images show a nearly destroyed coastal town in ecuador after a 7.8 earthquake struck. the images are enough for some in the community with family there to worry. >> they're okay but people, they just, to be honest, they're really going through a lot of pain right now. >> when i first heard about it, it was through social media that i was able to get an idea of what was going on. my cousins were sending me messages through facebook. >> reporter: the assembly represents the area in queens. he says most of his constituents are from ecuador. >> it's very emotional. you have family back home.

at 3 miles per hour, relative humidity 54. greenwich, 46. this is something i want to share with you. the national weather service and our friends in connecticut alertings to the elevated fire risk today. i mean, this is fire weather we've had, a long dry stretch, just a bit of a breeze. if you see something, call it in quickly because fires can spread quickly with this air mass. there's a lot of variety. 37 in morristown. 51 in new york. now a lot of communities along the east coast are actually warm they are morning, up through maine. it's going to be warm for the marathon today. five degrees warmer than this time yesterday in new york. it's going to be the warmest day of the week. we see a front push through, it's starved for moisture. 27 by lunchtime. that's l. that's nice. 2:00 in the afternoon, in the sunny side of the street, yeah, it's feeling warm. and almost 80 for your afternoon high. i think many communities in new jersey will hit 80. 26 is the normal.
