gurley was unarmed in the dimly lit stairwell of the pink houses. shortly after the verdict we spoke to his mother. >> he is very upset too. he would rather the bullet hit himself. >> reporter: as well as gurley's family. >> we are not rejoicing, but it is about being accountable for an innocent life that was taken. >> two months later sentencing day is here. the ruling was postponed earlier this month after michael vargas, a juror on the panel this convicted le yang, admitted his own father was convicted of a tim lar crime. the judge ruled that vargas did not intentionally lie to the court, and the verdict would stand. le yang, sergeant with manslaughter, faces a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison. brooklyn district attorney has proposed le yang be sentenced to probation and six months house arrest. a suggestion supporters agree

family cannot stand behind. >> you hoodwinked us. people of color. your kind. >> reporter: sentencing is scheduled for 2:00 this afternoon both supporters of both sides will be present. now to the growing nypd scandal. a rockland county man is free on bond this morning. it is the latest fallout from a federal probe into the nypd. >> reporter: alex lichtenstein left federal court after facing a judge of charges for bribery and corruption. he is accused of paying out bribes to nypd cops to issue gun permits without proper background checks. the licenses then were allegedly sold for $18,000 apiece to people who might not

on a tape recorded conversation lichtenstein reportedly bragged he used his nypd connections to obtain 150 permits. at $6000 apiece, it is believed he paid out $900,000 in bribes. on the recorded conversation, lichtenstein reportedly said, i want to repeat myself i'm not bribing you. the officers respond of course you are bribing me. let's be frank and honest here. >> no one answered the door at the lichtenstein home. neighbors said they saw several officers there over the weekend. in court the federal prosecutor said agents confiscated two guns from the home. lichtenstein had licenses for both. there are other people who could be involved, including a long time sergeant and a commander who introduced that sergeants to lichtenstein.

for a 6-month stretch in late 2015 lichtenstein was at the division twice a week and would often sit near the sergeant's desk. one woman is dead after a fire in brooklyn. flames erupted inositide a three-story house in prospect. the cause of the deadly fire is currently under investigation, but at this point officials say it does not appear suspicious. a state of emergency in texas as more rain is expected in houston. more than a foot of rain fell yesterday, inundating highways. the floods. officials say more than 1200 rescues were needed across the area. a reporter took part in one of them, he was going live when a started floating by. >> dude you've got to get out of the car.
