tonight the operator of that run away train is out of a job. >> david vasquez had worked for them for 21 years, learning just yesterday he was suspended for 30 days and today, word from his attorney that they had fired him. his attorney questions that decision. why the rush to judgment, he asks? it can't be for safety because he's been suspended and is not operating trains. the team made the move after the red line train that vasquez was operating ran off after he tried to address signal issues. >> it passed four different stations unmanned. investigators had been looking at the possibility that vasquez had wrapped a cord around the controls of the train causing it to take off but his lawyer says he would never have jeopardized passenger safety. >> no word from vasquez tonight here at his home in canton but we do know that his union is looking into the reasoning

he'll be eligible for parole because he's a juvenile. one person is dead and four others hurt in a two car crash. it happened this morning on interstate 195. right near exit 20. a van was apparently traveling eastbound when the driver lost control and smashed into a pickup truck. the crash is currently being investigated. >> we're following breaking economic news tonight. for the first time in a decade, signaling the end of the recession, federal reserve today raised interest rates. janet reports on what the hike in key rate means for consumers. >> within an hour of the announcement several banks including j.p. morgan chase and wells fargo raised its prime lending rates. others will follow that means your credit card interest rates and auto loans will tick upwards while those holding bonds, treasury notes and mutual funds will see higher yields. >> i have lot of people living

here is heartwarming and spontaneous interaction right in the middle of the celtics game last night. new at 6:00, sam shows us how one mvp honored another. >> aaron miller is a bit of a wonder, a stroke in infancy left him with cerebral palsy and without the use of his right arm. he's a golfer and as you can see an active basketball player. so when he was singled out by the celtics tuesday night for their heroes among us award, it was only fitting. >> introduced me and everyone was screaming. >> what happened next surprising. the player on the opposite team gave lebron james a salute. you. >> it's lebron james. >> and i almost melted on the parquet. >> he noticed james was wearing sneakers designed by james for young athletes with disabilities.

>> you know, this month is turning out to be very memorable. we're just over halfway through and i've got to tell you, the second half looks way milder than average so far. the first half incredibly warmer than average, so yes, we may have history in the making. we may be on our way to the warmest december on-record. we'll see how it plays out. not a full prediction quite yet. boston is 40 degrees right now the breeze is very gentle but off the ocean. that's significant because that will bring clouds in off the ocean eventually but i want to notice that jeffrey is already down to 33 degrees. there will be pockets around the freezing mark later on tonight and first thing tomorrow morning when there could be a touch of mist in the air. norwood is at 32 but when the clouds come in the temperature will probably go up down there. these are the predicted overnight low temperatures. so you can see that up in this region is where there could be a little bit of an issue. where there is actually a freezing rain advisory is further up in new hampshire,

northern maine but i would not be surprised, a couple of spots, low-lying areas, north-central massachusetts, very briefly early tomorrow could have a touch of freegz zing drizzle. south of boston, 50s. moisture is on the way. blossoming in the southeast and it's headed in our direction. let's work on the timeline of all of this. first, with the ocean breeze tonight the clouds will fill in and that's how we can get a bit of mist here or there early tomorrow. it's midday, tomorrow afternoon that we start to get the rain from the southwest. overspreads the region. could be a wet evening commute and then into tomorrow night for a time. friday, central and eastern mass, probably leftover clouds, that could be a little bit of additional rain along the shore or down toward the cape and the islands from a second system but in terms of precipitation in total, there is the potential for about half an inch or 3/4 of an inch in and around boston and maybe close to average or a little higher in some pockets over southeastern massachusetts or the cape.

precipitation deficit. with the storm coming right across us, that gives us a good chance at some meaningful precipitation. in the wake of all of this, by friday night and saturday, and saturday night and around sunday, we'll finally get some cold air in here. the jet stream will make a big shift. however, the shift is only going to be for a while and then the warm part of the jet stream will be back again for next week. so here we go for the next seven days. tomorrow, some spotty drizzle early. steady ever rain later on into the night and just a bit damp along the coast of the cape on friday. then the colder air friday night, saturday, and saturday night, early on sunday. jet stream, it's brief on saturday that it makes that dip and goes right back to the warm pattern for next week. patriot game looks tranquil by our standards at this time of the year. say low 40's for the start of the game. about a 10 or 15 mile per hour wind should. be sunny, maybe some filtered sun with some high, thin clouds and the milder air is back again for early next week. in fact, for a good chunk of time leading up to christmas, there will be a few rain
