compared to 2014. spending and stimulated the economy. in the week ahead, the jobs report for december analyst predict a total of 2.5 million jobs were created in 2015. that would be a more than 5.5 million over the last two years, the most in a two-year period since the dot-com boom. frank holland, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meterologist danielle vollmar. doug: you know what they say? red skies in the morning, sailors take warning. although, you know, that could be the case coming forward as we get towards the end of the weekend here. karen: at least a warning about danielle: that's right. look at the way the ocean is is moving along. we have a little bit of wind over that ocean right now. that wind is creating what we call wind chill. it makes it feel even colder outside so this morning we're starting off in the 20's and feeling like the teerns in a lot of spots. be aware of that. however, we're going to warm up
6:40 am
but the temperature trend is on the way down. let's take a look, if we can. 39 degrees for your high today. 42 for tomorrow. we're actually running above normal. we should be around 37 degrees but by monday and tuesday, temperatures nose dive back into the 20's and 25 on tuesday. in fact, tuesday morning we could be waking up with wind chills below zero. so be aware of that. where is the cold air coming? obviously up through canada out to the west minneapolis where it's 15 degrees currently. here in boston it's a balmy 32 degrees. we do have this arctic front up to the north. we're watching another disturbance right now. that's kicking up those winds and generating lake-effect snow showers off ontario. some of these actually making it now into the berkshires. in fact, there's been some reports of some light snow showers or flurries around the region. i do think most of this is going to wind on down though as we head towards lunchtime or so. only exception, of course, would
6:41 am
so for all you ski lovers up there, it looks pretty good. could get another inch of powder up there by the end of the weekend. you notice through our future cast we're really looking for a lot of sunshine today and then tonight the sky s are going to be pretty much clear overnight. now right now we're in the 20's in plymouth. 26 in worcester. but again this is the air temperature. then you factor in those winds. and the winds are out of the west at about 10-15 miles an hour sustained right now. that makes it feel like 16 degrees in pittsfield. like 15 degrees in worcester. and like the lower 20's through boston and points south and east. be aware of that. as we go through the day today, we are going to warm up into the upper 30's, low 40's. again lots of sunshine. and those winds will be with us pretty much all day long and even this evening as we drop temperatures back into the 20's and 30's across the area. so it is going to be a chilly night. and then tomorrow we should warm up a couple of degrees even
6:42 am
so we're talking low 40's, boston. mid 40's along the cape. and we'll see a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow. more clouds will be around though. there could be a couple of flurries around the region again tomorrow. it's all associated with this cold front that's going to come down and bring down the coldest air we've seen thus far this season. and then we watch those winds on monday turn to the north and east. this is going to start to generate some ocean-effect snow showers. as we blink down the cold air it's already in place, we could see a coat to go about one inch near camp ann, near parts of the south shore. once we get towards the cape and nantucket, i think one to three inches. depending on where these bands set up, we could even get maybe a couple more inches on top of that. so again we are talking about only in some spots seeing the snow but everybody on tuesday will be talking about that chill out there in the air because we're going to start in the teens and single digits with wind chill values below zero. it is going to be a cold one.
6:43 am
only going to warm up into the mid to upper 20's. the good news with all of this, if you don't like that cold weather, it doesn't last long. by wednesday we're in the upper 30's with some sunshine and by the end of the week we're in the doug. doug: danielle, thank you. here's what the home of the patriots looked liked on new year's day with 67,000 fans filling all the seats and the standing room only. bruins and canadiens ready to go. holliston native mike condon's goalie mask reminding him to do his job. tuukka rask also looking for inspiration from the champion patriots. but it's montreal's big day. max pacioretty bats a puck out of the air and brendan gallagher re-directs it home. montreal, much better to start the year, cruises to an easy 5-1 win. the local kid making 27 saves. karen: as new diets start for many this new year, we introduce you to a taunton teen with a special message. she posts inspirational messages daily to her anoxeria awareness
