the storm is gone. we got melt inning yesterday. we'll get more melting in today. look at the temperatures right now. we're in the teens and 20's so where we we have melting yesterday might be one or two icy spots here or there this morning. 22 in worcester. 27 out the door in boston. notice plymouth you're in the teens. orange just 16 degrees right now. patchy clouds have been kind of moving through here during the overnight hours but they are shifting off shore. sunshine today. we've got high pressure nosing in from the west. that means clearing skies this morning and loads of sunshine here on your monday. temperatures coming up by late morning to near the freezing mark. we'll spend most of the afternoon in 30's. look at this. the winds are light out of the northwest. they begin to shift to the south late in the day. light winds and temperatures sneaking up into the mid and upper 30's. it will feel pretty nice this afternoon. 34 in worcester. 35 in boston. mid and upper 30's possible south of the city today. so we'll get more melting in this afternoon. let's get you out to the roads right now and see hugh we're

morning. jeff larson is in. good morning. jeff: good morning. we're starting off in very good shape so far. again it's monday. we've had a little snow over the weekend so we're expecting a fairly busy commute this morning. again right now it's a nice ride. 93 southbound over the zakim. the leverett connector if pretty good shape. on to the maps. we'll see if it's affected travel times with the increase in volume which is slowly start to go develop. not so much on 93 south. only a 10-minute ride from 495 to 128. the metro west ride and the turnpike looks just fine. 15-minute drive time. that will increase significantly as we get under way. the southeast expressway has no problems. the only thing on the mbta to speak about is a minor delay expect od the red line because of earlier track work on the longfellow bridge. otherwise the mbta should be starting off just fine. randy, back to you. randy: jeff, thank you. breaking overnight. seven people are hospitalized after severe turbulence forces a flight to italy to make a an emergency landing. the flight from miami was diverted to newfoundland. three flight attendants and four passengers were taken to a local

at least four ambulances met the american airlines jet on the tarmac overnight. right now a man is getting ready to face a judge, accused of shooting at a local plow driver. erika: the eyeopener's frank holland is live in plymouth with the charges he's facing this morning. frank: this whitman man is accused of firing a gun at that plow driver while he was intoxicated. this incident happened on rocky hill road in plymouth on saturday during the snowstorm. police are charging 60-year-old bruce o'brien with assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a firearm while under the influence, discharge ago firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and disorderly conduct. fortunately, the plow driver was not hurt. police say it does not appear bullets hit any homes or cars in that area either. the shooting is still under investigation. it is not clear what led to this incident. o'brien is expected to be arraigned here in plymouth district court later today. live this morning, frank holland, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: thank you.

investigating a deadly accident involving a snow plow. police say a man in his 60's was struck by a plow while shoveling in dorchester yesterday. it happened at the intersection of dorchester ave and harbor view street. the driver did stay at the scene. police are now trying to figure out if speed or the angle of the sun factored into the crash. neighbors say it's a tragic accident, but they're not surprised. >> when i'm crossing the street, cars are coming really close without stopping. i think with the weather though, like the windshields, it's hard to keep them clear anyway. i mean, check the corners. people are all around. randy: the victim's name has not been released. erika: right now much of the east coast is still trying to weekend blizzard. will remain closed. that includes all federal offices. votes this week including one to override president obama's healthcare veto. this morning many rail lines are trying to get back on track. amtrak is running a limited number of trains on its routes

and right now airports in new york, philadelphia, and baltimore are getting back up to speed. hundreds of flights are still cancelled. but limited operations did resume yesterday and are expected to increase today. randy: new overnight. the patriots return home after a crushing end to the season. the team arrived at gillette stadium early this morning. and today they will have some final words before disappearing for the off-season. our bob halloran is live in denver, a place that, once again, has not been kind to the pats. bob: "unkind" is a gentle way of putting it. this one all started with a missed field goal by steerch gostkowski. that's a surprise. he had a consecutive streak of over 500. heading into this this one he misses the extra point.

coaches were not able to show players real-time photos of what was happening. last night microsoft says the problem was not with its tablets but with the network. the problem was fixed after 20 minutes. erika: it's now 5:07. new this morning. today governor baker will unveil new plans to deal with chronic unemployment in massachusetts. it's part of his upcoming budget proposal. last year, the governor created a task force to look at the issue of why some groups are having a tough time getting jobs in the state. the results are also expected to be announced today. commitment 2016. the republican race heads back chris christie, john kasich, and front-runner donald trump all have events there today. trump ramped up efforts in iowa yesterday ahead of early voting there in just one week. he kicked off events at a church before a rally. a man in a red turban was escorted out of the rally after he interrupted trump as the candidate spoke about terrorism.

muslim support. trump: i have friends that are muslims and they call me up. not all of them. but some of them. they said, "you're doing a great service" because there's tremendous hatred. we have to get to the bottom of what's going on. erika: senators ted cruz and marco rubio also held events in iowa this weekend as they try to chip away at trump's growing poll numbers there. randy: starting today riders will get to sound off on proposed fare hikes on the mbta. the first public hearing will be held tonight in lynn. the cost of riding the "t" is expected to jump as much as 10-percent this coming july. the most expensive scenario could generate more than $49 million for the cash-strapped agency. a second hearing will be held tomorrow in brockton. new this morning. there's a new plan to deal with a backlog of complaints against boston police officers. the number of complaints has dropped in recent years. but the time it takes to resolve those issues has been a source

"the globe" reports the program is designed to bring the officer and the complainant together in less serious cases to address issues faster and more effectively. erika: right now a man is under arrest for this wrong-way crash involving nine cars on a busy street. brockton police were chasing after the stolen s.u.v. right before this wreck. we're told the driver veered into oncoming traffic at the intersection of pleasant street and route 27 yesterday. he ran off but was quickly caught. that suspect and two other people went to the hospital with minor injuries. investigators are trying to figure out what caused this fire that destroyed a historic home in new hampshire. the flames broke out in new castle late saturday night. the home was built in the 19th century. no one was injured. randy: southeastern massachusetts dealing with the biggest clean-up from the weekend storm. erika: the silver lining to the jackpot snow totals on the cape. and this terrifying fall down the side of a mountain is not

so for the entire season so far, we're just over ten. very similar to where we were last year at this point. although you remember what happened after this point last year. typically on average we have about 20 inches of snow by this point in a season. no snow in the forecast today. we have temperatures starting out in the teens and 20's. 16 in orange. 18 in plymouth. the winds are generally on the lighter side. so no big wind chills as you're stepping outside this morning. some patchy clouds have been coming through during the overnight hours. these are in the process of thinning out and pushing off shore as high pressure noses in. it will be a pretty quiet weather day today. more clouds come in overnight. this weather system here off to the west is going to push toward us with some milder temperatures coming up tomorrow. so today is a seasonal day. average high this time of year is in the mid 30's. lawrence 35 degrees. 34 in worcester. perhaps a few degrees warmer here in southeastern 30's. but everybody is getting melting in today with temperatures above the freezing mark.

coming in during the overnight hours are kind of patchy but they'll thicken up during the daylight hours tomorrow so overnight low temperatures tonight. 20's to around 30 degrees. the winds are shifting around to the south. and the southwest tomorrow. out ahead of that next weather system so it really warms up tomorrow into the 40's. as this front approaches it takes all day for us to spawn just a couple of rain showers tomorrow evening into tomorrow night. and then behind this frontal boundary, the cold air kind of waits to come in until later in the day on wednesday so tomorrow we jump up into the mid and upper 40's. still in the low 40's on wednesday with partial clearing. thursday is quiet but it is cooler. we'll be watching down the coast thursday night. an area of low pressure coming off the south eastern united states. does this look similar? this will race out to sea. perhaps passing by close enough to give us another shot of snow around here. so we're going to have to watch the track on this very closely. perhaps another nor'easter in the making. not at much cold air in place though. we'll see if we can get snow or

if it passes enough off shore we'd miss it completely. we'll keep an eye on it. the story is a warmer one with melting coming in. jeff: winter so more snow coming at some point. cindy: of course. jeff: so far no problems of significance on our roads. again looking here at the zakim bunker hill bridge, leverett connector, everything is moving fairly well. seeing an increase in the traffic volume which is what we expect this time of the morning. we expect it to be a fairly busy commute being a monday and especially on the south shore some of those secondary roads might be slipper as well. reported. this is a crash being reported on 128 northbound right around route 95 in the canton area. it does not appear to be causing any big back-ups. again watch for slippery secondary roads because that might be a little bit of an issue for travelers. the ride on route 3 southbound between 495 and 128 from chelmsford down to burlington is only 10 minutes. that's a speed limit commute. the turnpike for metro west travelers coming on in is still in fairly good shape. keep in mind again we do have

a big disappointment. cindy: at least the weather is quiet today. erika: we're going to have sunshine and a warm-up. cindy: there we go. okay. bundle up the kids for the bus stop this morning. chilly, yeah. lots of low 20's out there. even a few teens. they're getting off the bus this afternoon. mid 30's above the freezing mark today. you can see the temperatures starting out with cold pockets worcester 22. we've got some 20's on the cape. notice taunton to norwood in the teens. boston is 27 degrees right now. notice the next 12 hours we do jump up pretty quickly. by late morning, we were either side of the freezing mark. i expect a lot of sunshine this afternoon. the clouds right now are moving on through. most of them are on the cape. they will be exiting. we'll brighten things up pretty quickly after sunrise this morning. high pressure nosing in. it will give us lots of sunshine throughout the day and a light northwesterly wind that may try to come around to the south late in the day. that will inch those temperatures up looking for a high of 34 in worcester.

that's when ruelas picked up the student and rushed her to the nurse. he was then suspended for leaving class. the school says it's looking into exactly what happened. a first for police in california who rescued two fugitives. police pulled the men over for swerving on friday, and the pair took off into the woods. they got soaked while crossing an icy river. that night, temperatures dipped, and the men decided they would rather be arrested than freeze. they called 9-1-1 and were rescued the next morning by the swat team. randy: it's now 5:41. updates ahead on our breaking news this morning. the in-flight scare leaving seven people hurt. and washington, d.c., is dealing with a lot of snow but we may not ever know exactly how much. the mistake for a team of weather observers. plus he's saying what we're all feeling. the endearing disappointment of

cindy: catching our breath this nothing huge on the weather front this morning. quiet. we've been playing catch-up with this storm over the weekend. we haven't seen much of any all winter so far. for this season now in boston we are sitting at 10.4 inches. very close to where we were last year at this point. but still below an average season to date which is about 20 inches of snow. of course you remember what happened after this point last year. we had four major snowstorms in three-and-a-half weeks. it just buried us with over 110 inches of snow for the season. don't see that coming here in the next week or so. things pretty quiet at least for the next couple of days. you can see the temperatures starting out in the teens and 20's this morning. boston. with a fresh 10-inch snow pack degrees this morning. we do have clouds rolling on through this morning. these are moving out. high pressure is nosing in. it will be a mostly sunny day with seasonal temperatures in the 30's. frontal system. you can see a lot of clouds with us now. there might and few showers developing and warmer temperatures move on in with it.

into tonight will fall down to near freezing overnight. temperatures actually start to southerly wind. we're going to jump into the mid afternoon. that means some rain showers. morning. by 5:00 p.m. a couple of showers night. we'll clear things out on wednesday so it's a fairly quiet stretch here. sunniest today. mid 30's. mid 40's with the few showers late morning and then clearing. still in the lower 40's on wednesday. let's get you out to the roads. jeff? jeff: we said it would be busy this morning. that is happening. the southeast expressway already a slow run coming up past neponset circle. that's about a 20-minute ride. almost a 20-minute ride between braintree to boston. slow spots. a couple trouble areas. first of all 128 getting to the expressway is very slow from route 24 on up. that's the heavier volume we are dealing with common for a monday morning. ramps and secondary roads with tricky as well. there's a ramp crash on 495 southbound on route 24.

now a truck fire being reported on the pike eastbound. just after 290 out through the worcester area so extra heavy traffic there. there's the slow traffic on 93 southbound getting past 495 and down through andover as well. here it comes. it's busy now. erika, back to you. erika: jeff, thanks so much. breaking overnight. seven people are hospitalized after severe turbulence forces a flight to italy to make a an emergency landing. the flight from miami was diverted to newfoundland. three flight attendants and four passengers were taken to a local hospital. american airlines jet on the tarmac overnight. a whitman man accused of shooting at a plow driver will be arraigned today. randy: the eyeopener's frank holland is live in plymouth with the charges he's facing this morning. frank: police say this man was intoxicated when he shot at the plow driver in the middle of the snowstorm. 60-year-old bruce o'brien of whitman is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon. carrying a firearm while under the influence. discharging a firearm within 500

and disorderly conduct. fortunately, that plow driver was not hurt. police say it did not appear any property was damaged either. the incident happened on rocky hill road in plymouth on saturday night. o'brien is expected to be arraigned here in plymouth district court later today. live this morning, frank holland, wcvb, newscenter 5. kelley: students here at boston latin are urging others to wear black today in protest. they're calling it a blackout. it all started last week with students at the prestigious school took to social media accusing the administration of ignoring frustrations with racial intolerance. they say the school isn't dealing with chronic use of racial slurs, stereotypes, and they say they took their concerns to the head master, and nothing was done. the school says it is looking into these allegations. live in boston latin, i'm kelley tuthill, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: thank you. new overnight. the patriots are back home after

washington post," that number falls short to estimates in other areas. that's because midway through the blizzard, a team of weather observers lost their snow-measuring device. the team is standing by their total. randy: along the south shore nearly a foot of snow. plymouth and marshfield dealing with some splashover last night after the storm. both communities saw blizzard conditions with winds hitting nearly 75 miles per hour in some spots. erika: boston police are investigating a deadly accident involving a snow plow. police say a man in his 60's was struck by a plow while shoveling in dorchester yesterday at the intersection of dorchester ave and harbor view street. the driver did stay at the scene. police are now trying to figure out if speed or the angle of the sun factored into the crash. no charges have been filed. randy: a driver is recovering after crashing through a building in everett. this happened around 8:30 last night along revere beach parkway.

spun out on vine street and then over-corrected before striking a tax office. nobody was struck, and the driver was not seriously hurt. they were issued a citation. erika: an amesbury man is facing drunk driving charges in new hampshire after police say they clocked him at 130 miles per hour. officers say 29-year-old kenneth coogan was speeding down route 101 in epping early sunday morning when he hit an island, slammed into a guardrail, and slid down an embankment. coogan was arrested on the scene. he was not seriously hurt. randy: a powerful earthquake leaves damage behind this morning in alaska. the 7.1 magnitude quake struck early yesterday morning about 160 miles southwest of anchorage. four homes were damaged in an explosion caused by a gas leak resulting from the quake. thirty other homes were evacuated as a precaution. nobody was seriously hurt. janiero will be inspected daily to prevent the spread of the

the mosquito-borne virus is responsible for an outbreak in brazil causing birth defects and paralysis. the c.d.c. has advised pregnant women to reconsider travel to brazil and other south american countries. randy: singer don mclean and his wife have agreed to dismiss a protection order after the "american pie" singer was arrested on a domestic violence charge. court records show his wife had filed for the protection order after mclean's arrest on january 18. but the couple says they're moving forward, and the case is now a private matter. erika: the celtics continue their road trip tonight after a crushing win over the 76ers in philly. jay crowder and isaiah thomas both with 20 points last night. the c's had five players in double-figures and 29 assists on the night. 112-92 the final. the celtics take on the washington wizards at 7:00 tonight. randy: and talk about crushing losses. the carolina panthers were on fire against the arizona

these will be exiting as high pressure noses in. so we've got tons of sunshine in the forecast for you today. a bright day. with light winds, no big wind chills so as we get into the afternoon and temperatures come up into the 30's, it's actually going to feel like it's in the 30's today. a lot of melting happening. 34 out through the worcester hills. 35 boston. 36 in nashua. average high this time of year is in the mid 30's. a seasonal day. a few upper 30's on the south shore and the cape today. we'll fall back into the 20's to around 30 degrees tonight. early in the night. the temperatures may actually start to come up toward dawn tomorrow. we're going to see a gusty southwesterly breeze develop tomorrow out ahead of this frontal boundary which by 5:00 p.m. could bring in a couple of rain showers. a few spotty showers overnight with this frontal passage on tuesday night. wednesday we're clearing it out. secondary front drops in late in the day. and that will bring in some cooler air. we have 40's in the forecast tomorrow. and again on wednesday. cooler by thursday with sunshine. but look at this. we're going to be watching thursday night another area of low pressure here developing off
