>> reporter: elibeth hur, abc news, new york. >> looks great. the casting incredible i think on this one. emily: good morning. it's tuesday, february 2. i'm emily riemer. randy: i'm randy price. stories we're following right now on the eyeopener. it's a wrap in iowa. who came out on top. and the drama added to the race for democrats. emily: it's on to new hampshire the candidates already looking ahead to the next big vote. randy: a driver charged with dragging a woman through boston. what she says actually happened. emily: we will get to all of those stories. first we want to check in with cindy. it feels a bit more seasonal today. cindy: it is february after although we're still sitting at 40 degrees in boston. keep in mind a typical high is 36 after coming off our highs in the 60's yesterday. we have cooled down a bit.

of the city are quite a bit colder. in fact, 20's showing up through northern worcester county. orange at 24. we're below freezing in worcester at 31. at freezing beverly at 32. you can see from plymouth down to the cape we're running either side of the freezing mark as well. clouds from the overnight, they are shifting off shore with our frontal boundary and now high pressure is nosing in from the west. we will see a lot of sunshine today. however, there is a big storm right now coming through the middle of the country. and this will bring a lot of rain to us tomorrow. so enjoy the sunshine today. notice the temperatures are going to come out of the 30's into the mid 40's or so by lunchtime. and that's when we stay through the afternoon with mostly sunny wind. looking for highs in the mid to upper 40's today. not the 60's. we'll talk more about that rain coming in just a few minutes. olessa: good morning. it's a quiet start on the roads. a little bit of overnight construction is in place. a live look at the pike by allston/brighton. no problems. let's check out the rest of your trip as you make your way north of town, we have construction 93

we are in a virtual tie. clinton: i am excited about really getting into the debate with senator sanders about the best way forward to fight for us and america. erika: on the republican side, marco rubio's strong third-place finish ges him a big push as he heads for new hampshire today. and ted cruz's win over donald trump triggered a more subdued tone from the business mogul. trump cruz: tonight is is a victory for courageous conservatives across iowa and all across this great nation. trump: we finished second. i want to tell you something. i'm just honored. i'm really honored. i want to congratulate ted, and i want to congratulate all of the incredible candidates. erika: the frustration overnight actually came from election officials. a small number of precincts didn't report their results. in one case, someone had to go to one chairman's house and knock on the door. emily.

the field is getting smaller. two candidates have dropped out. democrat martin o'malley called it quits after getting less than a percentage point in iowa. and mike huckabee is doing the same on the republican side. the former arkansas governor won iowa in 2008 and finished in the basement last night. randy: for the rest of the candidates it's on to new hampshire. some were wheels up even as the caucus vote counting continued. emily: the eye's kelley tuthill is live in nashua where the first ballots will be cast one week from today. kelley? kelley: that's right. this will be election central starting now. that's for sure. republican chris christie will be here this morning, just one of the candidates pinning their hopes on the granite state. christie didn't even wait for the results. he arrived in new hampshire last night stumping for votes in hopkinton. jeb bush didn't even go to the hawkeye state. he's putting it all on the line here, turning the "live free or die" state into a "do or die" campaign stand.

the agency already had an open case on whyte before the police response. randy: a weymouth firefighter is suspended without pay over this facebook post. veteran firefighter mark carron called narcan the worst drug ever created and suggested letting addicts die. he posted the comment on his personal facebook page over the weekend. he's now been suspended for ninety days. emily: right now a sandwich woman is held on bail accused of dragging a woman three miles through boston. with her car. but she tells police they've got it wrong. the eye's sera congi is live this morning with the suspect's side of the story. sera: emily, the driver is accused of striking a couple before the woman got caught under her car, but she says it's not her fault. xaianying zhou hid under a coat in court yesterday. prosecutors say she struck a man and a woman on kneeland street in chinatown monday morning. a 48-year-old woman got trapped

randy: "5 investigates" a convicted murderer heads before a parole board today. emily: that's as his daughter fights to keep him behind bars. richard seymour was convicted of beating his 18-year-old son patrick to death with a propane tank and a hammer in the family's billerica home in 1986. he bound and gagged his daughter, paula, and threatened to kill her and cut his wife, regina, with a large kitchen knife. seymour will plead his case for freedom this afternoon before the state's parole board. >> i don't think anyone that has the ability to commit the atrocities that he has committed can be rehabilitated.

storm warnings here in the pink but where you see the orange these are blizzard warnings that are up for parts of nebraska all the way up into iowa and southwestern minnesota so this is a pretty powerful storm but it will track to our west and pull up some of this warmer air over the southeast right now. we're going to go back into the 50's tomorrow as that storm approaches our area so it will be rain for us this go-round. you see the temperatures this morning are down in 20's to worcester county. now. notice your 12-hour forecast. this is down right around sunrise into the upper 20's. then we recover slowly back into the 40's this afternoon. there will be a lot of sunshine so starting out near or below freezing north of town, even south of town as well. it's 33 as you head out the door in hyannis, but the skies have been clearing out. we have high pressure now nosing in, in the wake of the frontal boundary that moved through overnight with the clouds. with the highs settling in, we'll see a lot of sunshine today. look at the winds. they'll stay at or below 10 miles an hour. light winds, sunshine. temperatures in the 40's.

you would think today was fantastic. it will still be a really nice winter's day with temperatures about 10 degrees above average but compared to yesterday we'll of course feel cooler to you. tonight we fall back into the 30's. as we start out with clear skies overnight, we're going to watch the clouds come in here during the overnight hours. that will blanket us through 5:00 tomorrow morning. it is dry. this area of low pressure is going to shift to our west. pull a cold front through in the afternoon. i think it's during the afternoon hours that will get in on our heaviest rain. we'll break that down on your wednesday. temperatures start out near the freezing mark here in the morning hours. i hit the wrong button. let's see if we can get that back for you. nonetheless we have some rain coming in on wednesday. there it is again and that rain during the morning hours is not really going to be all that heavy. it could start out in the northwest corner with a little bit of icing here. the rain really shifts in late morning through mid afternoon. yellows, oranges around for the evening commute though. just heavier downpours. can't rule out a rumble of thunder especially in southeastern massachusetts toward the evening hours.

hoax emergency calls. randy: two virginia tech students face a judge accused in the murder of a 13-year-old 18-year-old david eisenhauer was charged with killing nicole lovell. police say the two knew each natalie keepers is accused of helping dispose of the girl's body. police found lovell in north carolina saturday morning after emily: police are searching for a man accused of shooting a cab driver during a robbery attempt. this happened in worcester at stockton and vernon streets last night. the cab driver told police he responded for a fare when a man tried to rob him at gunpoint. the driver resisted and was shot. he is expected to survive. randy: a high speed chase massachusetts ends with the help attleboro police say two men robbed a bank yesterday afternoon, and took off down interstate-495 going more than 100 miles-per-hour. the chase ended in taunton where the taunton chief threw down spike strips and the attleboro chief rammed the car's bumper.
