winter storm watch now in effect not only for southeastern mass. it does include the city of boston, worcester and up threup parts of the north shore. and metro west. tuesday morning. it's coming from storm system number one and then it's two. though. so all eyes turn our attention to number one. right now we're talking about clear skies and again we're going to see a lot of sunshine through the day today. start inning the teens out through central mass. 25 worcester. 32 degrees in boston. and for today, we warm up into the low to mid 40's with lots of sunshine. now here comes the clouds on the future cast. by 5:00 p.m., they are here out ahead of our next system. snow starts flying at about 5:00 a.m. may start as a rain-snow mix turning to real snow. by 8:00 moving into boston and worcester. we'll go hour by hour for you for your monday and also talk about how much to expect where you live.

antoinette: danielle, thank you. right now one local town reeling from tragedy. heavy snow weighing down tree limbs being blamed for two deadly accidents in canton. a father dying of his injuries just a day after the death of a six-year-old girl. doug: hard to believe. newscenter 5's frank holland is here with more on the devastating aftermath of friday's storm. frank: doug and antoinette, the canton police chief tells us these tragedies are so devastating because they were accidental and unexpected. this morning, the community mourning the sudden death of a beloved father and coach. 48-year-old thomas gunning was tending to their backyard hockey rink friday night when a branch snapped under the weight of heavy snow and came crashing down. the fire chief telling us it happened so fast, gunning had no time to react. this accident happened just hours after the same terrible tragedy on the other side of town. six-year-old kaleigh kenyon was

suspects. both were injured during the are being treated at local hospitals. the two victims inside the home with non-life threatening injuries. antoinette: investigators still trying to determine the cause of a deadly fire in north andover. a man who lives there was able to rescue his elderly mother but their tenant did not newscenter 5's nicole estaphan investigation. billy kelley: i opened the door, nicole: billy kelley describes a frantic rescue attempt as flames filled his north andover home saturday. billy kelley: so i ran downstairs to my mother. i know she can't walk, so i helped her out of the house. nicole: with the help of a neighbor, kelley was able to carry his sick, elderly mother out of the park street house followed quickly by his father; but upstairs a woman tenant remained trapped. billy kelley: i didn't know what to do. i ran up the back door there to try to help her too, but there was just too much smoke and everything. nicole: firefighters would later find the body of the woman

after being able to knock the fire down, they did locate a victim who was found in the room of origin and she had succumbed to the conditions of the fire. nicole: the fire started in the living room, the same room where the woman's body was found. investigators tell us this was an accident but they're not releasing the official cause at this time. in north andover, nicole estafhan, wcvb, newscenter 5. doug: police in bedford and carlisle teaming up to arrest a carjacking and kidnapping suspect. michael sullivan of quincy taken into custody yesterday morning. investigators say sullivan hopped into a truck at northside convenience in bedford then drove off with a woman inside. her husband called police and officers quickly pulled the car over. the woman was not hurt. sullivan will be arraigned on several charges tomorrow. the death toll rising in taiwan after a devastating earthquake. antoinette: the rescue missions still underway this morning. and north korea makes a controversial move. the rogue nation's explanation

antoinette: good morning. it's 6:11. welcome back. a wild scene in wisconsin where lake geneva just swallowed up about a dozen cars using the icy surface as a parking lot. doug: probably their first mistake. the eyeopener's frank holland back now to explain what went wrong here. there's a lot. frank: doug and antoinette, that's absolutely right. it's an annual tradition. there were plenty of people out to watch an ice-sculpting competition nearby. they were parking their cars on the ice. but this year, the weather just really hasn't been cold enough to keep the ice hard enough to support all those cars. about a dozen cars fell into a barely-frozen lake geneva. dozens of cars parked closely together. after the break, laurie oberhelman's honda c.r.v. getting pulled to shore. she says she really regrets parking where she did. laurie: i think it's stupid to park on ice.

but live and learn, right? frank: a tough lesson learned there. luckily no one was injured. temperatures were just above freezing, but wisconsin has seen a fairly mild winter. and many lakes in southern wisconsin are dealing with poor ice conditions. antoinette: and they're saying they know now not to park there. doug: human behavior, a study of human behavior. antoinette: i don't want to be mean or anything. hello, thank you, captain. danielle: that's true. look behind us. antoinette: gorgeous. keep it like this. danielle: this is revere beach. it is beautiful. today will be a mild day in the 40's. enjoy it. big changes coming our way. our next winter storm coming up on monday. for the day today, if you're timing it out, we'll be around 40 degrees by lunchtime. through the afternoon, the low to mid 40's will be your highs. increasing clouds though from our system. we have two systems we're watching this week. storm system one to the south for monday into tuesday morning

develop again. another area of low pressure for tuesday afternoon into early wednesday. this one looks like the weaker of the two, but all eyes focus in on this one. that is gathering strength down to the south and gathering a lot of moisture you see this rain flipping over to some snow as it pulls down that colder air. so the timeline for tomorrow looks like this. we're still dry at midnight tonight. for all your super bowl parties, you should be good to go. the snow starts flying as early at 5:00 a.m. for folks on the cape as well as the islands. may start off as a mix of some rain and snow but quickly flips over to just plain old snow as temperatures drop. boston seeing snow by 8:00 a.m. as well as worcester. and then everybody starts to see the snow as far back west as western mass, the berkshires, and southern new hampshire by 11:00. so it snows pretty much all day. may lighten up a little bit through the afternoon and into that ride home from work although boston, worcester, you're still seeing it in southeastern mass.

overnight monday into first thing tuesday morning. and tuesday morning's commute could be a little snowy to start at least as it starts to wind down by late tuesday morning from this system. when all is said and done, outside of the city of worcester, outside of 495 talking about 2-4 inches of snow. but you get inside of 495, boston's included. the north shore. 4-7 inches down off the outer cape, too, seeing that. also down on nantucket. then i think there's going to be an area where we could see seven inches plus because we're also going to have northeast winds giving some ocean enhancement. i'm thinking plymouth is in this, maybe south of brockton just to the west of hyannis. inches plus. worried about. it's also that wind that's going to be strong tomorrow. that wind out of the north and east will pile up that ocean water. coastal flooding could be an issue during high tide. the commute into work and outside of work could be a rough one. 45-mile-per-hour winds look

pretty much all day long as well as cape ann. yes, that coastal flood watch in effect for this area in green. 11:00 a.m. high tide we're watching and maybe even that 11:00 p.m. high tide as well. this storm system comes in. it influences us pretty much all day on monday. and then here's storm system number two. but notice it kind of goes a little farther off shore. it's weaker. so it may throw some snow especially at the coast. but then it looks like it lightens up through wednesday. now as we get towards this weekend, i do want to talk about this because look at these temperatures. these are your high temperatures on friday plus a gusty wind. going to make it feel like the lower 20's with those wind chill values so once we get through the snow and the heaviest really comes in on monday, light snow tuesday, maybe light snow showers wednesday and flurries on thursday. then it's all about the cold rush of air coming in for next weekend. antoinette and doug. antoinette: here we go, i guess.

down i-93 in holderness. murch was arrested and charged with reckless driving. doug: a substantial grant for worcester public schools to help reduce suspension rates. the $400,000 grant is from the "health foundation" of central massachusetts. it will help schools implement a program that addresses the underlying trauma such as poverty-related stress that causes some students to act out. the program will take an educational approach that aims to de-escalate issues in the classroom. antoinette: an underground electrical fire is being blamed for yesterday morning's evacuations in charlestown. high levels of carbon monoxide were discovered in one of the units at 2 bolton place. everyone evacuated safely. doug: people will gather again today to say their final goodbyes to former providence mayor buddy cianci. cianci is lying in repose at city hall right now outside the office he occupied for more than 21 years. he died late last month at age 74. cianci was the city's longest-serving mayor but was forced from office twice due to

antoinette: 6:42. welcome back. the i.r.s. back in business this morning. the agency has resumed processing 2015 federal tax returns following a hardware glitch. the failure had knocked some computers out of service. refund wait times do not seem to be affected. nine out of 10 taxpayers will receive their refunds within 21 days after their tax returns are received and accepted. but right now there's a new warning to taxpayers. officials saying scammers are working the phones to steal your money. doug: those suspicious calls and threats cost americans millions.

protect your money. frank: this morning, the i.r.s. is warning people about a telephone scam where taxpayers are threatened if they don't pay right away. >> we'll put you behind bars. frank: that's the sample of the type of call victims get, someone claiming to be from the i.r.s., demanding payment of back taxes. the i.r.s. telling everyone to be on high alert. the agency is also getting the word out that the i.r.s. generally makes first contact by letter, will never demand immediate payment, and does not threaten force. but starting next month, it may get harder to tell a scammer from a legitimiate tax call. a new law requires the i.r.s. to hire collection agencies to collect taxes, and those agencies may call taxpayers. steve weisman: in the future, when collectors are actually calling on behalf of the i.r.s, people will be more likely to fall for that scam. frank: since october 2013, 5,000 people have lost more than

>> what's the difference? >> yuge difference. doug: sanders is the third presidential candidate to appear on "snl" this season. fellow democrat hillary clinton made an appearance last fall, and republican donald trump hosted in november. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meteorologist danielle vollmar. danielle: a dry forecast in store for today but snow chances on way up especially high for tomorrow as our next winter storm approaches. tuesday some snow. then a lower chance on wednesday. from a second system which is up to the north and west. this one is actually going to be the weaker of the two and push farther off shore. but all eyes are focusing on this one. number one. it's gathering strength. it's gathering moisture. it's going to head up the eastern seaboard. as it does, it will impact our area. starting overnight tonight, the clouds increase. the snow starts flying as early as 5:00 a.m.

some rain and sleet before it turns over to plain old snow by 8:00. it is into boston, even worcester could see some of this. then it continues to push farther to the north by 11:00 on monday. this snow is going to ramp up through the afternoon and then maybe a little bit of lighter precipitation for that ride home from work but worcester, boston, still in on it. it continues for southeastern mass until about 5:00 in the morning on tuesday. so that ride in to work even on tuesday could be a tricky one. when all is said and done, what are we talking about in totals? outside of 495, outside the city of worcester only 2-4 inches. maybe some spots even less than that. but inside of 495, boston included, the north shore, 4-7 inches down on the cape as well. as nantucket. the vineyard and then this area right in here near plymouth could see seven inches plus in some locations because we're going to have some ocean-enhancement working on in.

it's not just the snow though we're concerned with. it's also the winds. and there could be some coastal flooding during times of high tide because of that strong northeast wind and tides are also astronomically high. of course, the commuting problems look likely starting tomorrow morning and really on the way home from work and tuesday morning. wind gusts in excess of 45 miles an hour on the cape all day tomorrow as well as cape ann. and then boston seeing 30-mile-per-hour wind gusts all day long. the other thing is that coastal flood watch in effect now for that 11:00 a.m. high tide. watching. flooding along these locations so this area of low pressure rides up the coastline. it's going to give us that snow beginning at 8:00 a.m. it's continuing through the afternoon and evening. and then here is that second system winding up. its track is a little farther off shore. a little weaker so i do think it's going to bring in some snow, some light snow tuesday afternoon into wednesday morning but notice i say coastal light
