>> this is wcvb newscenter 5 at 7 p.m. ed: first at 7, breaking news. several people hurt in a crash in roxbury. good evening, i'm ed harding. maria: i'm maria stephanos. we're now learning that the suv that flipped was stolen. newscenter 5's john atwater is live at the scene. john? john: five hours after this happened police continue to come through that suv which police say was stolen. it is still on its side in the middle of warren street. police say three juveniles were inside the truck. witnesses say it took a turn to fast and flipped at the corner of warren and mlk. the truck fit -- hit other cars. investigators say five people are being treated in hospitals area and one was critically

this suv but witnesses do say they heard sirens. >> they cannot make that turn. the speed they was going, they could not make it. that is why they flipped and turned over. the officers behind them. >> we were stuck in traffic area that is why heard this clicking from the tires -- i heard the squeaking from the tires. john: this is cellphone video of first man who was trapped in that suv. five people taken to the hospital this afternoon as police continue their investigation here tonight. maria: also breaking, a woman in wilmington is dead after she was hit by a car in wilmington. police say she was walking near the rite aid store in the area of main and richmond streets. the car then hit two parked cars. the victim has been identified only as a 52-year-old woman from wilmington. the driver also a woman from wilmington was taken to the

a woman stepping into the street gets hit by a duck boat. here's the video recorded by that duck boat. she is in blue and you see her step off the curb near the intersection of boylston and arlington. we're told the woman is expected to be ok. boston duck tours says they are committed to operating safely. maria: tonight, this man is wanted in three states for scamming more than a dozen people. one of those scams was in quincy newscenter 5's shaun chaiyabhat is live in quincy to explain. shaun: right on the water the beachcomber is prime real estate. so investors thought they had a good deal. now nearly $2 million is gone. >> he's engaging. he's entertaining. he takes people out to dinner. all his business deals are done in nice restaurants. shaun: police say the

he worked at this centry 21. known here as eugene grasthwohl. victims thought he was legit. so they handed him thousands to redevelop the beachcomber nightclub. a popular spot and prime real estate. but days before the deal he vanished. >> he's skipped town with all that money. shaun: $1.8 million. so far 20 victims. and counting. and police say he had 5 aliases and counti even duped his longtime girlfriend. >> he lead her to believe he was in the cia, that's why his name kept changing all the time. police call him a career scammer. similar ponzi schemes sparking warrants in 4 states. and now on the run again. police think he's been in the area 15 years. no telling how many victims may come forward. ed a woman may be soon be facing : criminal charges and losing her child after she was caught on camera passed out from an

store in lawrence, david? david: within the last hour, state officials have confirmed the child who came to this store with her mother is now in protective custody. warning, this video may be difficult for some viewers to watch. but the police chief here believes it may help people understand the extent of the addiction crisis. in the video the woman lies sprawled in the middle of a store aisle as her two-year-old daughter cries, tugging at her arms, trying to wake her up. in the background, bystanders call 911 for help but no one personally intervenes. lawrence's police chief james fitzpatrick, who shared the video with us, says the child in the video has already been removed from her mother's care

>> based on what? >> the fact that she was so intoxicated she could not take care of her child. david at the woman's home, : no one answered the door. neighbors tell us she and her daughter live here alone and are often out in the yard together. in other parts of the country, recent videos have shown police rescuing overdose victims from a car along a highway and breaking into a pickup to save a child whose grandmother had passed out. in massachusetts', opioid-related deaths continue to skyrocket with the state on track to hit nearly two-thousand this year. doesn't believe in publicly shaming addicts with videos like this but -- at this point the woman has not been formally charged. police are not yet releasing the woman's name and neither are we. that's because she has not yet

maria: charlotte, north carolina right now demonstrations are underway at this hour over the shooting of a black man by a black police officer just about 24 hours ago. ed tonight there's still : conflicting information about exactly what happened before the shooting. our ben simmoneau is here with the latest. ben: two very different versions of what happened yesterday emerging tonight police say 43-year-old keith lamont scott refused repeated requests to drop his gun. but neighborhood residents say he was holding a book not a protestors erupted last night after a white police officer shot scott, killing him. protestors damaged police cars, injured 16 officers shut down part of i-85 in the charlotte area, also looting a wal mart. this all started around 4:00 yesterday afternoon when police were serving an arrest warrant on another person at an apartment complex. scott apparently got out of his car, the charlotte police chief

: men in connection to saturday's bombing in new york. the men are accused of taking key evidence they were seen on surveillance video removing an unexploded pressure-cooker device from a piece of luggage on a street and walking off with the luggage only. the men are considered witnesses. new york police say they may have inadvertently disabled the bomb as they removed it from the suitcase which investigators are now hoping to recover. a suspect in the bombings was arrested on monday. two men in new jersey are being credited with spotting another bag filled with bombs also left by the suspect in the new york bombings. one of the men who found the bag is homeless. he wanted to take the black backpack, but he and his friend realized something was wrong when the saw wires and felt how heavy the bag was. they called police, who safely detonated the device. ed five investigates reporting : tonight that the top cop in charge of training at the mbta transit police academy has been

transit police sgt. danny o'brien was at the t academy's graduation ceremony today, his last day as police academy director. five investigates learning he's being removed from his post after facing an allegation of hazing that involves mistreating a recruit who had a speech disorder. the latest allegation comes four years after investigative reporter kathy curran exposed allegations of discrimination and hazing at the academy which trains cops from cities and towns across the state. >> can we ask you a couple of questions about your removal? >you believe your actions have always been professional? what is expected of academy staff? x we expect them to treat all of the recruits with respect and train them in a proper environment.

executives for making hundreds of millions, while raising prices. >> and they raised the prices, the reason being, i believe, to get filthy rich at the expense of our constituents. ed: the ceo says the company has had to spend more to increase access to the drug. and only nets $50 a pen. the company says they will soon begin selling a generic version, for $300 a pair. maria a solemn day of : remembrance near the state house today, as four names were added to the law enforcement memorial. the four legacy officers died decades ago, from injuries suffered in the line of duty. they join more than 340 other massachusetts heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. i was honored to be a part of this very moving ceremony today, and spoke with the widow of

knocking on the door just offering the simplest support for the kids and myself. it's touching. and overwhelming. but it is very touching and i know my husband would be very proud. maria trooper clardy and officer : ronald tarentino were recognized at the ceremony, along with other recently fallen officers with massachusetts ties. their names will be added in 2017. those very hot out there today and i am telling you, they sat there for hours and paid attention and listened. it was very moving. ed: very moving. unfortunately we do not -- we have to do it. i cannot recall another september where the sunsets have been so spectacular this time of night. harvey: i am glad you brought that up.
