given so much, and today made the ultimate sacrifice. ed: nine other firefighters, six police officers, and three utility workers were injured. buildings near the blast site had been evacuated prior to the explosion preventing a larger tragedy. right now, boston police are searching for suspects in a deadly shooting in jamaica plain. officers were called to the scene on centre street just before 1:00 a.m., it's just feet away from the jackson square t stop. police found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds to the torso. that victim, in his 40's was taken to the hospital where we are told he was pronounced dead. policere for any clues that might lead to an arrest. heather: 4:30, a canton mother learning today that her son's killer will stay locked up for another 5 years. 14-year-old shaun ouillette was beaten to death in 1986. his killer rod matthews, also 14-years-old at the time, was convicted of second-degree murder. he was denied parole today. rhondella richardson is here

simone was seen by sky 5 apparently kneeling on the ground, before troopers from massachusetts and new hampshire ran up and started to violently beat him. new hampshire trooper andrew monaco has already entered guilty pleas to three counts of simple assault. flynn and monaco were arrested after the incident. heather: a man is dead after a fiery pick-up truck crash on route 293 in manchester, new hampshire. police were in pursuit when the driver lost control and crashed into some trees. investigators say the same driver left the scene of an earlier crash on i-93 in salem. witnesses say the truck was swerving back and forth across the highway before the crash. firefighters say that 4-alarm blaze at an abandoned middle school in fitchburg was intentionally set. one firefighter was hurt, but is expected to be ok. the fire forced the town to cancel classes at a nearby middle school yesterday, because of smoky conditions. investigators are asking for the public's help for any information. ed: police in providence, rhode

body cameras. police received the $375 -- $375,000 grant from the u.s. department of justice to purchase 250 cameras. that will allow all of the department's officers to be outfitted. the union says they do have questions about the cameras, but overall are in agreement with using them. boston mayor mary walsh says he will hold a series of public conversations on the issue of race. the mayor said today that the city and its residents must forge a deeper understanding of each other's experiences. he also said the city will provide a toolkit to anyone who wishes to lead a similar discussion in their neighborhood or workplace. heather: dueling rallies held in tulsa, oklahoma, tied to the deadly shooting of an unarmed recommend by a police officer. civil rights leaders, including reverend al sharpton, calling for further investigation into the officers who witnessed the shooting of terence crutcher. the other, in support of officer betty shelby, charged with

ed: the fbi is looking into possible mistakes the agency made in connection to the bombing in new york city. on capitol hill today, director james comey says they are investigating past contact with the father of the suspect to see if anything could have been done differently. the father had reported his son as a possible terrorist, but them recanted. director comey also says the fbi is looking into past investigations into the orlando nightclub shooter. heather: tomorrow, congress is expected to override the president's veto of a bill that would have allowed the families of september 11 victims to sue saudi arabia. this would bfi during two terms president obama has vetoed nine bills. none have been overturned. ed: the marine corps will soon unveil a new recruiting slogan. you remember the old one, the few, the proud, the marines. that has been used since 1977. while not revealing the new slogan quite yet, a marine spokesman says it will reinforce the elite standards the nation has for marines, while clarifying its mission.

of water erupting from the moon's ice-covered surface. it's the light blue area at the bottom left of the moon. europa has an enormous ocean but it's located under a layer of hard ice. scientists hope that the plumes will allow them to gather water samples of the water without drilling through the ice. ed: let's go from that to this. this is a photo that could be called a star's last hurrah. the hubble capturing the end of a star similar to our sun. the burned-out star is the white dot in the center in the photo. around the white dwarf is a nebula created by the star , casting off its outer layers of gas. our sun will eventually burn out and do the same thing, but you don't have to panic. it won't happen for another five billion years. we have time to make plans. heather: that is a breathtaking

part of meteorology is the tropics. we are keeping a careful eye on this tropical wave. the conditions look-alike they are ripe within the next 25 hours to get the next tropical storm, which would be matthew, moving through a portion of the caribbean. i want to take you to the other chart and show you what we've got. right now, it is still considered a tropical wave. it there is no true closed circulation yet. that will probably happen. it is going to move deep through the caribbean, but here's the deal. as we take a look at how this will be moving in the next five days, while moving through the caribbean, almost all of them show a move northward. it could be similar in this position five days from now, which means next week, we will have to watch toward the bahamas or florida, or the southeast

to have to keep an eye on. the rain we had earlier is now all to the south of us. there could be a little bit of rain over nantucket overnight, but otherwise therein is over. the skies have brightened, especially north and west. i don't expect the clear skies to stay. 69 in boston. the breeze is gentle at six miles per hour. the breeze is going to get a little stronger out of the northeast tomorrow. a couple of days. even other temperatures are in the low 70's in places now, when we check out the temperatures, the wind is light out of the east, but when you look at the temperatures in east main, it is in the low 50's in caribou, a little farther south in the low 60's. there is cooler air that will start sliding this way overnight, and be south of us by tomorrow morning. behind it, the wind will come

it will bring cool air down, and because it will be off the ocean, it means clouds and missed could occur. -- mist could occur. that will establish tomorrow morning. tomorrow, we will not have a huge temperature jump, because of the breeze off the water. if we check out any additional storminess that develops, it will stay far enough south to keep most of the steady rain away. in addition to pockets of drizzle, there could be some periods get in, but for the most part heavy rain will stay away. later tonight, not that big of a problem. then, here come the clouds from the ocean. from northeast to southwest in by tomorrow morning, a few pockets of drizzle. little bit of rain in the region. for the most part, it is that cloudy, raw, damp field that will get settled in for a few days around here. even on friday, it is likely to

that tries to clear it up for a little while in northern new england, but the chances of that reaching southern new england, probably not great. we will see how it pans out. had temperatures tomorrow, not as mild as today, because of the northeasterly wind at 10-20 miles per hour, and getting stronger with time. in the next seven days, cooler air comes in. basically cloudy, cool, little damp. once the clouds get in, they will be difficult to remove with the northeast wind being persistent. the other thing that eventually could lead to wet weather at the end of the week or start of the weekend, when the system in the ohio valley finally gets dislodged and has to move through the region around the start of the weekend. that could give us some wet weather at that time. that is how we are looking.
