us. i'm antoinette antonio. todd: i'm todd kazakiewich in for doug and we're welcoming kelly anne cicalese with us on this wet and foggy morning. kelly: a very wet start, a very active evening last night as well. many of us saw that thunder and lightning push through and even now waking up this morning, woe still have remnants of ponding water on our roadways. for this morning, you're heading outside of that, showers have come to an end. we're waiting for what's next, the new round pushing in for later this afternoon. those showers are tracking through much of new york. you can see that moving through the new jersey area and southern new york. that's going to follow a northeasterly track toward our region for later today bringing us not only gusty showers but a huge cooldown in temperatures. our temperatures right now are in the 60's, but as we move through the forecast later this

50's for later tonight. big changes heading our way, todd and antoinette, and a very chilly start to our work week. antoinette: kelly anne, thank you. those powerful october thunderstorms that moved through the area, the heavy rain bringing severe street flooding to parts of our area. you can see the cars left stranded in fitchburg. more than 4 inches of rain falling in some spots. todd: including worcester where we find the eye's nicole estaphan. good morning, nicole. antoinette, todd. much of the flooding has receded in this area, but take a look behind me. many streets remain closed and this is why. they're still towing vehicles, those veks -- vehicles flooded. we're on southbridge street, one of many cars stranded across the street last night. high floodwaters forcing emergency crews to close several streets in the area. one man so stuck, he had to

southbridge street while waiting to be rescued, one of dozens of rescues by emergency crews last night. on nearby cambridge street, water levels as high as 8 feet deep. neighbors say there are at least 13 rescues from that one spot alone. >> never seen anything like this at all. roads blocked everywhere. people getting pulled all over the place. it was nuts. nicole: take a look at this. a manhole cover ripped off, sink holes and strd crews have damaged potholes this morning but residents are cautioned some main remain lifted. flooding may have caused raw sewage to overflow as well. so you want to be careful in those flooded areas. again, crews working really hard to get those flooded cars off the roads. several streets do remain closed. nicole estaphan, wcvb newscenter 5. antoinette: nicole, thank you. an amtrak downeaster train stuck on the track for hours before

stopped just north of the haverhill station yesterday. the train left boston at 5:00 p.m. and it arrived in wells, maine, just after 1:00 this morning. we're told a disabled freight train on the tracks prevented other trains from moving on. passengers also tell us a replacement crew was sent to the train after the engineer reached the 12-hour limit. todd: an investigation is underway after a construction site tragedy in boston's south end. the bodies of two men recovered from a floodednc as newscenter 5's mary saladna reports, co-workers are devastated this morning. mary: by late evening, crews had recovered the second body, two men who had worked for atlantic drain in roslindale killed when a water main broke. >> i saw a lot of people trying to get the guys out. mary: witnesses say it was chaos as water quickly filled that trench on dartmouth street. >> one guy put a rope around it,

mary: at least four men were working underground friday afternooning when the water main gave way. only two managed to jump to safety. >> the water was squirting out of the ground and people running and panic. mary: witnesses say there was little time. the trench and nearby streets flooded too quickly. >> the water was just gushing, gushing, gushing, and they were screaming that somebody was out there. mary: workers who clung to hope visibly shaken. >> i saw the look on the workers' faces. when they left here, they looked devastated. mary: by late evening, flowers and a sympathy note adorned the do door at the company. one of the men had started a few weeks ago. the other had worked here for years. was universally liked. >> everyone, everyone, there was not a dry eye in the place. it was really hard. you couldn't meet a better guy. i'm going to miss them bad. mary: it's still not clear what caused that water main to break.

in boston, i'm mary saladna, wcvb newscenter 5. todd: 5 investigates undercovering previous safety issues with atlantic drain services out of roslindale. they were cited for eight different violations earlier this year and fined $20,000 by osha, the occupational safety and health administration. and this isn't the first time atlantic drain services has been in the news. a worker was hurt in march when one of the company's trucks fell on hi without bail. 21-year-old angel mateo faces charges that he kidnapped and raped a 13-year-old girl while she was walking home from school. police say mateo initially denied having sex with anyone and then said it was consensual and that he thought the girl was 18. >> want to say that the victim, although dealing with a very traumatic experience, was crucial in detail and location of the incident.

police identify mateo by a gps ankle bracelet which he was ordered to wear after trying to blackmail an ex-girlfriend into sex earlier this year. he is now facing charges in three cases. another woman came forward friday accusing mateo of trying to rape her in may. right now, two incidents are under investigation in brockton after a car crashes into a home. the crash happened early friday morning on wilson street. "the enterprise" reports the man told police that someone stole his car after gunshots were the car then went off the road and crashed into the home. the driver ran off before the first responders arrived, but when police spoke to the owner about the car, he couldn't explain why he had the keys. no charges have been filed in the shooting or in the crash. todd: methuen police are searching for the man suspected in a string of recent robberies. police say this man allegedly robbed a methuen cooperative bank with a gun on thursday. he's also a person of interest

dracut and a walgreens in lowell. they're asking for anyone with information about this case to give them a call. antoinette: we are now hearing from the 13-year-old hit by a stray bullet while in his bedroom. jorge: puting on a brave front, 13-year-old juan lopez delgado appreciates how close he came to tragedy. >> like pop, pop, pop. and came back, pow, and that's when it hit me. jorge: just watching tv in his third-floor bedroom, you can see the bullet hole in his bedroom where it went through the wall. >> i fell onto the floor. i got up and ran to my mom's room. then i fainted. jorge: a group of gang members were in the park next to juan's house when this man pulled up and started firing. christian garcia hid his face in court today.

the bullet is still lodged in juan's left shoulder. >> i have to ask for help putting on my shirt, taking a shower, getting off my bed. i don't have this arm to push myself up. jorge: the eighth grader a point guard for his basketball team. he says he'll have to sit out the season but realizes how lucky he is. >> it could have hit my head, my heart, my spinal cord. it could antoinette: juan's parents moved here from new york looking for a safer place to live. the suspect is held on $100,000 bail. the search for answers after a series of high-impact cyberattacks. todd: the local target and the new type of attack hackers unleashed. also, a massive fire out west. where it's burning and why it's taking time to put out the flames. antoinette: a cloud of toxic

you may not have gotten onto your favorite websites. hacking is the blame. they targeted dyn. hackers unleashed what is called ddos, designated distributed denial of service. overwhelming the sites. >> dyn was more than hacked. they were physically just -- they were just pounded by traffic. >> this code is now readily available for malicious hackers wh todd: the f.b.i. and the department of homeland security are both involved in the investigation. antoinette: a federal judge is ordering the man accused of stealing classified data to remain in custody. prosecutors say nsa contractor harold martin stole thousands of digital and hard-copy files for nearly 20 years. his attorney, however, says there's no evidence that he shared the information or that he's a traitor. a judge agreed with prosecutors

prison. announcer: now, your stormteam 5 forecast with meteorologist kelly anne cicalese. todd: we're welcoming the newest member of the stormteam 5 family this morning. kelly anne cicalese. kelly: an exciting start to our day. we had really intense showers last night, the lightning and thunder. did you hear it? antoinette: i slept right thro some of those downpours led to flooding issues. we have ponding water on our roadways as you're heading out right now. the question is when's the next chance of rain moving in. as you head out at this point, although we do have ponding water issues, things are dry overhead, and so we're waiting for that next chance of showers, which will be moving in for later this afternoon. satellite and radar imagery relatively quiet overhead locally. we do have areas of fog stretching toward the south

york. this is moving through for later today. not only are we seeing that chance of showers, but we're also going to see some very strong and gusty winds pushing into the area for late tonight especially. you'll see the possibility of wind gusts near 40 miles per hour. hence, why we have wind advisories issued for all of massachusetts and also through much of rhode island as well. this is the back end of the system that pushed through yesterday. not only are we seeing those cooler cti of snow trying to creep in, something we're tracking up in canada right now. here in the lower elevations and for much of our local forecast, that chance of snow holding off, but you move out toward the berkshires and also as you move out toward the adirondacks and the first flakes of the season not completely out of the question. temperatures as you're heading out the door right now are very warm out there and very muggy. it's almost a tropical feel as you're heading out this morning as we're seeing downtown boston at 63 degrees. and guess what?

actually falling as we progress through the afternoon. plymouth at 65 right now. very warm as you're heading out toward the cape. worcester, 61 degrees. very warm start. that is going to be as warm as it gets. futurecast is showing dry conditions as we head into the morning forecast. even for the early afternoon. so even at noon, we still manage to hold on to those 60's for much of our region, but, of course, we have changes heading our way because we go from some afternoon showers. so that will start to cool us down, and eventually we're tracking strong afternoon and evening winds. that's as these showers push eastward into the area. some heavier showers possible especially heading toward the coast. notice how the heaviest axis of that rainfall stays to the west of our region. i mentioned that snow chance. there it is for late this evening moving into the berkshires and stretching up through much of northern new

we see temperatures from going near 80 earlier this week. now we're dropping. you'll start to feel it as you're heading out tomorrow as well as we do see gusty winds pushing through the area. winds gusting near 40 miles per hour as we head into the late joov noon. and that's the case as we head into your monday morning. the rest of your seven-day, some good news. that sun will start to break out, but temperatures are staying cool as we top out in the 40's heading into tuesday afternoon. and check out those overnight temperatures as well.we getting above freezing with an overnight low from tuesday into wednesday sitting just about 30 degrees. todd and antoinette. antoinette: freezing? barely freezing? oh, man! todd: it isn't november yet. antoinette: kelly anne, thank you. 6:18. taking a look at some of the stories happening right now. todd: firefighters in california are working to get control of a massive fire at a cardboard recycling facility just outside of los angeles in the city of ontario. you can see the plumes of black

tracks at one point setting fire to a set of tracks. no one was hurt by air quality in the area is being tested. no word on what caused the fire. a chemical spill at a kansas disstilling plant released toxic fumes. two chemicals were mistakenly combined there. dozens of homes, three schools and a small college were evacuated. the cloud dissipated in a couple of hours. two people this morning. antoinette: health insurance company cigna is ending a policy that made it harder for doctors to treat addiction. doctors will not have to fill out extra paperwork before they prescribe drugs for withdrawal system. announcer: now here's josh

afternoon. we have the head of the charles. the weather is not going to be perfect, but it's not going to be quite as bad as what we saw. antoinette: rain gear, right? kelly: this is what's going on. here's look at what's going on. we have dry conditions in place this morning. some fog and some mist, but the heavy showers of last night have exited our area. we're watching what's next. showers are developing out to our west barely making their way through southern new york and through much ow that's going to be pushing toward our area for later this afternoon. it's not just the showers we're tracking. we have some gusty winds and also a huge cooldown expected as well. so our futurecast looking dry to start the day. we have showers creeping in. you'll notice as these showers move in for later this afternoon, our temperatures are going to plummet, so the highs today is what you're feeling as you're heading out the door right now with temperatures in the 60's. and there's a lot to follow in

afternoon winds, but wind advisories in effect. a closer look coming up. antoinette: all right. kelly anne, thank you. we have breaking news from worcester. a three-alarm fire is burning on pelham street. this is a few of the fire from elm street. you can see heavy flames shooting from the roof. we have a crew on the way. we will get you updated information as soon as we can. a powerful line of thunderstorms moving through the area last night. several towns experiencing flash flooding. todd: let's get right to the eye's hardest-hit areas. nicole? nicole: the rain is over now. floodwaters have mostly receded here in worcester, but several streets remain impassable. let's look at murray avenue, the street completely under water last night. you can see when the cars try to drive through it, they push a wave down the street. city officials reminding us it's never safe to drive through water when you don't know how deep it is.

window, one driver forced to stand on top of his car while waiting to be rescued, one of dod dozens of rescues in the area. they are warning people that many manhole covers were lifted. they have replaced many of those. if you see one out of place, you're asked to notify police. in worcester, nicole estaphan, wcvb newscenter 5. todd: thank you. let's show you video from fitchburg. several cars stranded there. got stuck trying to get them to a dry spot. we're also told hundreds of homes received water damage. several roads closed in that town overnight as well. antoinette: and the flooding equiti extending up to the merrimack valley. this is haverhill. todd: in manchester, new hampshire, some roads under as much as a foot of water. several cars were partially under water as well. neighbors and firefighters worked to clear storm drains in an effort to allow floodwaters

got caught in the high water level. antoinette: right now, an investigation is underway after the bodies of two men were recovered from a flooded trench on dartmouth street. this happened yesterday at a construction site in boston's south end. a water main gave way while the men were working, and that flooded the trench. the workers have not yet been identified. osha and the d.a.'s office are now investigating. dartmouth street is a major artery in the south end. closing it off createser is reopened, expect major tie-ups in that neighborhood. city officials say it could be days before the street reopens. people in the area already adjusting to that last night. one restaurant was forced to stop deliveries because the process was just taking too long. but many people say they're more concerned about the victims and the families affected by this tragedy. >> i give so much credit to blue collar workers, and i feel terrible about what happened.

todd: police are asking drivers to continue to avoid the area if possible. antoinette: police in new york investigating a white powdery substance found at hillary clinton's campaign headquarters. people evacuated the office after workers found that envelope last night. officers say the mail was first brought to the midtown manhattan office, but then it was transferred to the brooklyn headquarters. the nypd is currently testing that substance. meanwhile, clinton campaigned in ohio, another swing state where polls show t are essentially tied. the democratic attacked donald trump again for his suggestion that he might not accept the election results. >> the peaceful transition of power is one of the things that sets us apart. whether or not you support me or you support my opponent, together, we must support american democracy. antoinette: clinton also blasted trump for the use of chinese steel in some of his buildings, saying that he needs to answer

filing for unemployment. todd: meantime, donald trump doubling down on his plans to fight illegal immigration on a swing through key battleground states. in pennsylvania friday night, trump laid out his plan to jail repeat offenders. >> if i'm elected, we will impose tough new mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for anyone who illegally reenters the country after previously being deported. they won't come back. todd: trump remains in pennsylvania today set to give a speech in gettysburg. and today curt schilling will rally on city hall plaza in boston in support of donald trump. schilling wants to challenge massachusetts senator elizabeth warren in 2018, but he's not sure yet that his family is onboard with the decision. in an interview friday, schilling also rips the democratic party, which he says is anti-israel. >> i don't understand -- and this is -- maybe this is the amateur non-politician in me.

jewish faith can back the democratic party which over the last 50 years has been so clearly anti-israel. the democratic party is allied with israel only because we have agreements in place that make them have to be. todd: schilling will be in concord, new hampshire, tomorrow. antoinette: dover, new hampshire's football team was short-handed after several coaches were caught drinking after a game and fired. in a letter to parents, the superintendent says the volunteer and assistant coaches drank aol traveling back to dover high school after a game in keene on saturday. she says they were in a separate vehicle and that neither the head coach nor the students were involved in any way. >> ultimately, when we talk about student-athletes, we hold them to a high standard, because they represent our school. and we are working to promote healthy behaviors, healthy lifestyle, good decisions, so the adults who work with our

standard as well. antoinette: the superintendent says several people, including the athletic director, are filling in for now. todd: 6:38. a man charged with killing five teenagers in a wrong-way crash in vermont is now in jail. steven bourgoin was in the hospital being treated for his own serious injuries. prosecutors say bourgoin crashed into the teens' car on i-89 in williston two weeks ago. police say he also stole a police car on scene and crashed into seven more vehicles. an officially sold. the boston landmark commission is expected to declare the sign as an official city landmark. b.u. will use the proceeds from the sale for core academic and

todd: breaking news from worcester, a live look there. a three-alarm fire happening right now fire crews on scene. five people were rescued, residents forced out in the street. we will bring you more information. a number of people rescued. no serious injuries. antoinette? antoinette: flooding is affecting other parts of the country. in pennsylvania, storms washed away roads and quickly cracked into people's homes. some didn't make it out in time prompting helicopter rescues. residents are hoping those waters will start receding so that they can get in to clean it

later this afternoon. you can see the good stretch of showers moving from new jersey all the way through new york and into vermont as well. this is what's going to be inching eastward as we head into the forecast later today. the cold front of yesterday that brought those heavy downpours and thundershowers has shifted. this is the backlash that's moving through our area. this is going to bring big changes in temperatures and strong and gusty winds for later any. temperatures right now, as i tropical as we are seeing most locations well into the 60's. downtown boston, 63. worcester county, 60 right now. so it's a warm start and pretty much as warm as it's going to get as we see plymouth at 65. check out all this cool air to our west. 40's as we stretch through much of new york and through vermont. this air will be shifting toward our region for later tonight. and as we head into the start of next week as well. so your high temperatures for

those highs in the morning. it's a very strange outlook as we do see temperatures right now in the 60's. as we progress into the later afternoon and evening, those showers move in and we see that cool air pushing into our region, ushering in not only a cooldown but strong winds expected. you're waking up tomorrow morning not quite as warm and muggy as today. as we drop down into the mid 40's for downtown boston, you move inland, we see 0's on the board. north shore, upper 30's to lower 40's. right now, it's mild. the main reason for that is because we have this warm air mass moving in ahead of that kol air that's going to be wrapping in behind that system for later tonight. chilly as we head into the overnight hours. that wraps through as we head into sunday morning. then for sunday afternoon, we're talking about strong and gusty winds in place. that sticks around through the start of next week as well.

america runs on dunkin'. antoinette: we're following breaking news in worcester. todd: nicole estaphan is there live where a three-alarm fire has forced people from their homes. nicole? nicole: antoinette, todd, six people rescued from this fire, all of them transported to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. among the rescued, two children. take a live loo that's 5 pelham street. it's a three-decker in worcester. flames breaking out about 5:30 this morning. you can see them working on it this morning, largely contained at this hour. but they did evacuate nearby buildings at one point. the flames very hot. take a look at those flames. we have a picture to show you of when that first broke out this morning. neighbors tell us that two children on the third floor there where the fire started actually hanging outside of the

fire crews arrived. they were able, again, to rescue those children, get four adults out as well. all of them transported to the hospital this morning. all with nonlife-threatening injuries. we did speak with neighbors who live in this area. listen to what they had to say. >> help us, help us. we were all down here. we were going to catch them. but it was like 10 guys from all around the 'hood, from this area and my house. and then the firetrucks come. nicole: and that is good news there again. everyone out safely. another live look, 5 pelham street, this fire starting, again, on the third floor, largely contained at this hour. no serious injuries. that is the good news. now, this same area, pelham street, last night, heavy flooding. take a look here at the fence. you can see the water level. they were without power this morning. i did ask investigators if that contributed to the flames here. they say it remains under investigation.
