temperatures warming up yet again, despite heavy clouds we see in place already this morning. downtown boston, 59 degrees. we are going to see a nice warm up this afternoon as we see the winds pushing in from the south and west. a cold front moving through, things start to cool down. i overcast sky in downtown austin, but as you move throughout the day, we see some glimmers of sun try to br moved in from the west with our next chance of showers approaching from the great lakes region. i will get the shower truck coming up. doug: kelly ann, thank you. breaking overnight, boston police shoot and kill a suspect in the south end. antoinette: the incident started with a call for an emotionally disturbed man. the eyeopener's juli mcdonald is live in the south end with the breaking details. juli? juli: antoinette and doug, we

home. you can see there is still a police cruiser and a couple of police officers outside this shawmut avenue apartment. it was boston police and ems that responded to this home around 12:30 overnight. they entered the home hoping to calm down the 31-year-old man. police called him emotionally disturbed. police say at some point a st floor, and the man pulled out a knife. that's when police ran in to assist. the suspect swung repeatedly at the officers as they struggled on the floor to get the knife away. commissioner evans said they had no other choice, and the officers were forced to fire, ultimately killing the suspect. >> unfortunately, it turned ugly. they were attacked with a knife.

the officers, and it left them no choice. juli: the commissioner tells us that there were officers and emt's who had to be treated for injuries to their backs and heads that they suffered in the struggle overnight. their conditions are unknown at this time, and the identity of the suspect to a skill has not been released. the district attorney's office will take over the investigation. live from the south end, juli mcdonawc that update. more breaking news this morning, and mbta employee is recovering from a late-night attack. this happened around 12:30 this morning. it happened near the ceder grove station in mattapan. boston ems says the driver was taken to carney hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. doug: violence breaking out in several dorchester neighborhoods. a woman was killed and a teen injured in a shooting on washington street yesterday. one woman was at a nearby store

ground, shot in the chest, and died from her injuries. when police arrived on scene they found a second victim a , teenager with non-life-threatening injuries. police say they believe the teen was the intended target. neighbors tell us they've had enough of the violence. >> we should be able to walk down the street and not have to worry about ducking from bullets and running for cover. if you know something, help out. reviewing surveillance cameras and talking to witnesses. anyone with information is asked to give police a call. police are also searching for a gunman in a second shooting. this happening just blocks away from that first shooting. police say a teenager was shot in the area of geneva avenue and waldeck street around 4:30 yesterday. the victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to be ok. police don't know whether this shooting is connected to that incident on washington street. antoinette: a 15-year-old is in

injuries this morning and another teenager facing charges after a house party in lowell. 18-year-old joseph zangerella is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. "the lowell sun" reports the victim suffered serious head injuries. this happened in a fight at a party friday night. zangerella is due in court tomorrow. a car fire shut down the entrance to storrow drive. you can see all the flames there, firefighters rushing to put them out just outside the tunnel yesterday. this is near exit 26. right off 93 to storrow drive. the ramp was closed while the wreck was cleared. state police say no one was hurt, and there is no word this morning on what caused the fire. >> ladies and gentlemen, the next and first female president of the united states, hillary clinton! doug: no, that is not vegas, commitment 2016, singer jennifer lopez stumping for hillary clinton in florida. the candidate joining lopez on stage. lopez urged people to get loud at voting booths. clinton, meanwhile, is calling

fbi after the director said he's reviewing new emails related to the investigation of clinton's home server. as the eye's nichole berlie reports, donald trump's campaign is now using it as an opportunity to increase the attacks on his rival. >> have you been in touch with the fbi? nichole: hillary clinton is pushing back hard at the latest email investigation rocking her campaign. ms. clinton: it's pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election. in fact, it's not just strange, it's unprecedented, and it is deeply troubling. nichole: clinton calling on the fbi director to justify the stunning move. ms. clinton: voters deserve to get full and complete facts. and so we've called on director comey to explain everything right away, put it all out on the table. nichole: for donald trump, this could be the last chance to turn his campaign around. mr. trump: hillary has nobody to

her criminal action was willful, deliberate, intentional, and purposeful. nichole: fbi director james comey opened the latest probe after new emails were discovered while investigating a sexting scandal involving former congressman anthony weiner, the estranged husband of top clinton aide huma abedin. shared by the couple. in an internal memo to fbi employees, comey wrote, "given that we don't know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, i don't want to create a misleading impression." comey says he doesn't know how long the investigation may take. authorities are still seeking a judge's approval to review the e-mails, but at this point, it is unclear how much more information voters will learn before election day. nichole berlie, wcvb newscenter 5. doug: we are following breaking news on the eye.

>> there was damage to the fuselage, and that was mainly limited to the windows and only because medical eases of the interior. we had no fire that actually breached the inside of the cabin. doug: of the 170 people on board, 20 passengers and one flight attendant were injured. most of the injuries happened while sliding down the exit chute. all of them have been released from the hospital. antoinette: thousands of honda owners have yet to get their airbags repaired despite repeated warnings from the automaker. the airbags, which are made by takata, have an extremely high chance of rupturing and causing injury or death. honda says it has sent out letters, facebook ads, and made telephone calls, but notes it can be hard to reach some owners. 300,000 hondas are still equipped with the malfunctioning airbags.

we will see that also as you move through areas of new hampshire as well. overall, it is a mild feel as we hold off from the gusty winds and also from that rain until later this evening. we are seeing a future cast, moving across the 1:00 hour. by 5:00 this evening, we see showers moving to our western expanse. scattered showers are the nature of the beast. heavier rnf much of our region, a shower chances moving through. that puts us around late this evening as well. by late tonight, it shifts off the coast, and drier air service to filter in a that will be overnight and into your monday morning during the monday morning commute, good news, we will be drying out and see sunshine breaking through as well. monday will turn out to be a sunny day but quite a bit cooler

here is the 7-day forecast. 50's for today, 10 degree drop heading into tomorrow. that means for the trick-or-treaters, it is going to be the kind of night that you need the extra layers. temperatures as the sun starts to set drop into the 40's with even 30's expected as we move into the later evening. a light wind as well. it will be staying dry. the rest of the forecast initially is cool. into tuesday morning. we warm up as we moved to wednesday and thursday. on wednesday, we start to see that jet stream moving northward. that is key to getting the warmer temperatures and our area. that warm air from the south starts to push northward to our region pure it a nice little temperature boost as we see temperatures about 10 degrees above normal, and that is the case as we move into your thursday as well. thursday bringing our next chance of showers. that will move in later in the day. you will see the clouds start to progressively build by next weekend.

down into the 50's. don't forget to change those clocks back saturday night into sunday. antoinette: does that make is late or early for work if we forget? it is so confusing. doug: you have a week to figure it out. 8:15 is your time on this sunday morning. breaking news out of italy. antoinette: no loss of life despite the powerful earthquake that has rocked the nt southern parts of italy. the 6.6 magnitude quake follows a week of tremors in the same areas. injuries have been reported, though it is unclear how serious at this point. thousands are homeless after buildings across the area crumbled to the ground. the quake has forced the closure of several popular tourist sites. doug: we're learning more information about the boat crash that left a miami marlins pitcher dead. jose fernandez was killed when the boat he was on hit a jetty near miami beach. a medical examiner says fernandez had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash.

investigators have not yet determined who was steering the boat when it crashed. antoinette: the president of a medford police union is apologizing after posting this picture. harold macgilvray says he used poor judgement when he posed for the picture with a person dressed as hillary clinton in an orange jump suit. the picture was shared on the medford police patrolmen's association facebook. macgilvray says the picture was taken spontaneously and not intended to make a political statement. he and several officers also took a picture with a person wearing a donald trump mask under the message "make america great again in west medford square." >> now, here is josh brogadir worth sportscenter 5. josh: after missing the last three games to the bruins, all losses to the black and gold, road wins -- red wings, winner

sara: i have depression. reporter: battling invisible illness. sara: i have depression. reporter: natick high school senior sara berg, the actor, director, and editor of this spoken word film, knows it all too well. dealing with mental health issues of her own has caused her to miss several weeks of school. sara: invisible illnesses are , like, really difficult because you may not see them on the outside. reporter: just as difficult as the medical issue you can see. sara was born with spina bifida. on the spinal cord, so when i was 9 months old they had to remove it. reporter: complications, leaving part of her left leg paralyzed. sara: on the bottom i can barely feeling anything, like i can feel pins and needles. antoinette: living most of her life on crutches or a leg brace -- sara: so yeah it has been really fun. reporter: sara takes it all in stride, focusing on the future. sara: i am really excited to get to college and get like a

shawmut avenue as this investigation continues. we know boston ems and police worked together to try to calm down that 31-year-old man on the first floor of this home. commissioner evans said the man pulled out a knife and then there was a violent struggle on the floor. ems did go into the home first. police running in to assist, the repeatedly at the officers as they struggle to assist him. they had no choice but to fire their weapons, ultimately shooting and killing that suspect. his mother was home while this all happened. she's the one who called 911. she asked first responders to assist her. commissioner evans tells us emt's had to be treated along with some of his officers for

the explosion. >> we asked what it was about, and they said there was a suspicious package, and they quarantined off the area. >> obviously it was very suspicious when they opened it up and looked at it, there were wires. they called the police, came down, looked at it, obviously it looked like an explosive device. doug: police are now ve incident back in september when a bag was found with shell casings and a note mentioning isis. antoinette: a 44-year-old man is under arrest, accused of raping a brockton high school student in the school parking lot. it happened on thursday afternoon while school was going on, according to our media partners at the brockton enterprise. police say the suspect, andy thao, knew the victim, who is not being identified. the superintendent declined to comment. an arrest warrant has been

office warns the suspect, 29-year-old sean chandler, is armed and dangerous. he is wanted in connection with the killing of 38-year-old donald yancy. police say yancy was shot in the head inside and apartment in breed's corner late friday night. anyone with information on chandler is asked to contact lynn police. doug: we're learning more about a deadly crash on the mass pike in westborough. you may remember this was breaking news yesterday on the eye. the victim thrown from the car vehicles. state police say the driver of the car lost control. six people were in the car, four were ejected, including the 26-year-old woman who died. the driver and four other passengers all have serious injuries. troopers are still working to figure out what caused the driver to lose control. meanwhile, a jeep left abandon in the middle of 290 leads to a crash. a worcester county sheriff's cruiser slammed into the back of

bloodhound were on the way to work. he and his dog are ok. the sheriff's department says the owner left the jeep there because it ran out of gas. antoinette: middlesex county residents are cashing in on their old firearms. framingham police held a gift cards for guns event saturday. area residents turned in 174 firearms and a defused grenade. those who participated in the four-hour buy back program received gift cards for each weapon or piece of ammunition returned. a safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms. state police will destroy the returned guns. doug: demolition continues on the mass pike as crews work to dismantle toll booths. state highway officials say they're making progress and are actually ahead of schedule. how about that? drivers traveling between new york and boston will now pay pike tolls in one of two ways. a bill will be sent in the mail after their license plate is

roxbury. this is the first year for early voting in the state, and a lot of people are taking advantage. the secretary of state says that more than 300,000 ballots have been cast since early voting began on monday. the process is convenient, and many voters we spoke to say they are not concerned about wanting to change their vote. >> i don't think so. i cannot imagine anything that is not sort of catastrophic. >> hearing all the questions and the candidates the miami very happy to have already voted. -- the candidates, i am very happy to have already voted. antoinette: this is the only weekend for early voting. 26 towns are offering voting today, including worcester, new bedford, lowell, lawrence, newton, and somerville. >> now come your stormteam 5 forecast with meteorologist kelly ann cicalese. kelly ann: doug will be up in a sky 5 monitoring the conditions.

from the great lakes, moving right along this cold front, so that is something we will be tracking later this evening. until that point, things are looking dry and mild. temperatures looking to reach into the 60's for most spots, especially as we move along the north shore, well into the lower 60's. downtown boston hitting a high of 61 degrees today. as we move through the forecast tomorrow, temperatures go from 60's a bit of a cool down as we kick off the workweek. we will see things warm back up as we move toward the middle and late portions of the week coming up. moving to worcester county, temperatures top out in the 50's for most spots. worcester about 58 degrees this afternoon. we have that light rain moving in from later this evening. right around dinnertime, you will see scattered showers approaching from the west, quickly on eastward as we head into the forecast later tonight.

republicans. they have been down, they have been looking at, you know, at trump being down in polls across the board, in the states nationally. now they have this development, but i think it is unlikely it will dramatically change the race if you look at the battleground states. antoinette: that is certainly an indication of your we are seeing record numbers here in massachusetts. it is the first year of early voting. a lot of people -- do hi changing their minds? are people decided right now? jon: keep in mind the early vote, we already have about 20 million americans who have already cast their vote. a lot of those in key states like nevada, florida, north carolina, huge early vote state, colorado as well. so many of the battleground state people have artie gone out to vote. i will tell you, this electorate is so divided.

vote for him even if they went and shot somebody on fifth avenue. against a donald trump, there are a lot of people who would vote for hillary clinton even if she were locked up. there is no question that opinions are set in stone for a wide swath of this electorate. there is just no question about that. we will have to see what happens with this fbi development your james comey, i believe calm out in the next couple of days and give an indication about whether or not this is truly a serious development or they are simply going through their du jour legends. right now, we do not know, and the fbi does not know -- they have not even analyzed these two e-mails yet. doug: hillary clinton calling this "unprecedented" that they would do this so close to an investigation and that the investigation would continue well after the election as well. what does the clinton camp due to get ahead of this thing?

are attacking the fbi director for those very reasons, which i think is a potentially dangerous course of action. i mean, james comey is a republican, but he was appointed by barack obama, and he is somebody who has a reputation of being a straight shooter. i think it is a risky strategy. the other thing they can be doing is pointing out that comey is not suggesting that there is any more evidence hillary clinton. they are simple saying they have discovered e-mails that may be relevant, and they want to take a look at those e-mails. as of yesterday, they still have not gotten the requisite warrant to look at them, so there is no indication that there is anything big here, no indication yet. antoinette: ok, we will see what the fbi director says. certainly going to be an interesting nine days, to say the least. jon karl, thank you for joining us this morning. doug: "this week" is coming your
