two friend, a 67-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man were struck by a septic taping truck belonging to the throne depot. the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating. the police chief tells me he spoke to the male victim at the hopped and he explained what happened. >> they were here for a social visit. to visit people, and they had a couple of errands to run and they were attempting to get the bus that leaves directly from in front of city hall so ther effort to catch the bus. >> again both pedestrians have serious life-threatening injuries. the chief tells me there are several surveillance cameras around here including the cameras over there on city hall and police are now gathering that videoe to take a closer look. this is still a very active scene and the investigation is

police believe it's no accident. >> they have just announced a major development. here's more, live with that development. >> the woman was found dead on exchange street by the rear entrance to the apartments here on hampshire street, the building across the street, an after trying to figure out who the victim was all day they now know who she is and that's her car right there. it was a tragic turn of events for a family tonight. late this evening i spoke to a man on hampshire he said he had come here looking for his sister. when we gave him the description of the victim found dead early this morning, he broke down crying, sobbing hysterically. saying his sister had been missing for the entire day. another woman who said she was also related to the victim confirming that fact, and just before we went on the air the office called to say the victim has now been identified, but they are not releasing her name until all of her relatives are notified.

5:00 and 6:00 this morning, and right now, you can see the tow truck on the scene coming to tow the car away. again, her body was found by the rear entrance to the building on exchange street. they have not ruled out foul play, saying, her death does appear suspicious. >> we'll bring you all the details as they become available. live in lawrence, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> right now, a key clue is in the hands of police as they try to solve a terrifying home invasion in sterli woman tied up with duct tape threatened with a knife inside her home. the attacker is still on the run. julie mcdonald live in sterling with what police know. julie? reporter: the victim's recovered car is now a significant part of the investigation. it was processed by state police and a crime scene unit. three men who broke into the home earlier today were wearing gloves during that armed home

victim's stolen car before dumping the vehicle at a makeshift baseball field. >> they may have been familiar with the individuals. >> sterling police believe it was not a random attack, when three masked men broke into this home and tied up the 70-year-old homeowner with duct tape. >> they did hold a knife to her throat. demanding money in the location of the safe. >> after ransacking the house for more than 20 minutes those three men took off in the victim's c seven miles away. the suspects are still on the loose, but this is what we know. >> they are all approximately the same height -- 5'8" to 5'9". two were slimmer. one was a skeleton mask and the other two was a black ski mask. there was a slight accent to maybe light skinned hispanics. >> investigators suspect the men may have known of the couple or had scoped out lane before. >> unnerving. very unnerving. this is supposed to be a safe neighborhood.

the tracks right near broadway. one of the cars does have hazmat placards, so people are being asked to avoid that area as a precaution as crews work to clear the scene. >> a deadly crash along route 111. three vehicles were involved and it shut down the highway during the evening commute. tonight are in the hospital with serious injuries. a 69-year-old woman died. her name has not been release on route 44. it injured several people a car bursting into flames and a truck overturned in this collision. four people suffering serious but nonlife-threatening injuries. traffic was tied up for miles at around 6:30 tonight as crews work to try to clear the scene. environmental crews were also notified because of the fuel
