>> good morning. it is wednesday, november 2. i'm emily riemer. >> i'm randy price. stories we're following on the eyeopener. right now, a mysterious death investigation in the city of lawrence. new details we're learning about the victim and what police are not ruling out here. >> a man and woman hit by a truck while crossing the street in woburn. the clues police into this morning. >> full-court press on the campaign trail. the big events around the country today as we count down to election day. >> we will get you all of those stories. first, though, want to check in with cindy for a look at your forecast as we start the day. much warmer than this time yesterday. >> big difference really from the past couple of mornings. it is near 50 degrees in boston. we have clouds around and the wind is from the south. it's light. that southerly component of the

up overnight. 50 degrees in lawrence, upper 40s through worcester county. so you get the idea. notice the clouds dropping through morning. but there's no moisture out of them. there has been rain in northern maine. around here we'll keep it dry. on the other side of this warm front, even warmer temperatures. temperatures near 60 through pittsburgh, 60s in chicago. so 15 miles per hour. sun is up at 7:19. the clouds thin out this afternoon. by noontime, lower 60s. maybe brown bag your lunch, head outside. temperatures, upper 60s, could even be near 70 in a few spots. let's get you to the roads. >> live look. the zakim bridge, lever connector. let's see the rest of your ride.

this accident involving one car in the final stages of clearing. 93 southbound by route 23. one lane partially blocked. construction wrapping up by highland avenue on 128. 93 looks good, 128 as well. we're expecting trains and buses on schedule. >> right now two people are fighting for their lives after being hit by a truck crossing the street in wo eyeopener's sera congi. she's live at the scene with what we know at this hour. >> emily and randy, the victims are friends. they were visiting this area near city hall near woburn city hall when they were hit. police say the crash happened around 7:00 last night on common street. the two friends, a 67-year-old woman and 71-year-old man, were hit by a septic tank truck.

happened just before the crash. >> they were here to visit people. they had errands to run and they were attempting to get the bus that leaves from the front of city hall. they are crossing in the crosswalk, it appears, in an effort to catch the bus. reporter: the driver of that tank truck did stay on the scene and is cooperating with police in this investigation. police are now looking at some surveillance video in the area that live in woburn, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. >> other stories happening. police now know the identity of the victim in a suspicious death in lawrence. a woman's body was found outside an apartment complex yesterday on hampshire street. newscenter 5's jorge quiroga gave her description to a man who came to the scene. that man began crying, telling jorge his sister was missing all day. he tells us the car being towed

opening statements will begin today here in the gary sampson retrial that happens later here at federal court. sampson admitted to murdering three people in 2001. it was a week long rampage across massachusetts and new hampshire. he was sentenced to death in 2004 after pleading guilty to killing jonathan rizzo and philip mccloskey, two men he picked up while hitchhiking. that sentence was tossed out years later because of juror wrongdoing. th j background. sampson was sentenced separately in the new hampshire murder of robert "eli" whitney. he is again fighting the death penalty in this sentencing retrial. we of course will be here in the courtroom and will let you know what happens on air, online, and with our mobile app. antoinette antonio, newscenter 5. >> right now there's a manhunt after a terrifying home invasion in sterling. a woman was tied up with duct tape and threatened with a

this home on stephanie anne lane. three men wearing masks broke in, attacking that 70-year-old homeowner. >> they did hold a knife to her throat, were demanding money and the location of the safe. >> there were more than 20 minute -- they were there more than 20 minutes, leaving in the victim's car that was found seven miles away. investigators are looking at fingerprints in that car. police believe the men knew of the coupler that cul-de-sac prior to the home invasion. 4:37. dozens of people flooding state offices in boston fighting for disability rights. >> the charges they are facing. toys for military families destroyed in this fire. the new effort to make sure the toys get where they belong on time. >> it is on to get game 7. the key hit for the cubs as they force one more in this historic world series.

anchor: wednesday morning. anchor: turn around the temperature from yesterday. >> past couple of mornings, been so cold. we've got two things working for us to make it warm. there's cloud cover out there. we also have this time of year when you get a warm wind direction, the temperatures can warm up. that's going to happen today. the direction is coming up from the south this morning. that's going to keep the temperatures up all day. you can see how warm it is to our south. new york city in the mid 50s right now. they are heading into the 70s today. notice towards chicago still warm in the lower 60s. this is the air mass working on in. our readings this morning are starting out pretty close to 50 degrees in most areas.

worcester 49. we've got upper 40s on the north shore in beverly. the cape in the 50s right now. notice the fair amount of clouds through the morning hours. as we get into the afternoon, the skies brighten up and the temperatures head into the low 60s as we go into the afternoon, even on cape cod. so a mild day for you. you can see the clouds. it's not a widespread thick blanket. there are breaks in them. the clouds will continue to break up as the morning wears on. these aren't producing wet weather. it's the warm front bringing in the warmer temperatures. it's this cold front to the west that's producing showers toward iowa right now, southern wisconsin. this is what's going to ride in our direction for tomorrow. so today is a dry day. tonight is dry. even tomorrow morning, not totally dry, but it's a low chance of rain. the best chance of rain is tomorrow afternoon and during

high temperatures well into the 60s. if we can get more sunshine earlier on, these numbers may be a little too conservative. someone today is going to hit 70 degrees. i think 67 in boston. mid 60s nashua. lower 60s on cape cod. you can see the clouds this morning and then they thin out. as we go into the evening hours, there will be clouds around. they will thicken overni degrees tonight as well. another mild night coming on up. notice tomorrow morning one or two showers, but really it's just the cloud cover. we're waiting for this area of rain to the west to push in. by 3:00 in the afternoon, it's getting closer to you in the worcester area and then it shifts eastward. so 5:00, 6:00, for that evening commute tomorrow there will be showers around. could be a downpour. can't rule out a rumble of thunder. this is shifting out and we're going to dry things out. temperatures tomorrow still

to deal with a fuel spill. >> the driver of an s.u.v. involved in a crash has been cited for failing to stop for an emergency vehicle. four firefighters were hurt monday when the s.u.v. and fire truck collided at the intersection of comm. avenue and dartmouth street. the fire truck then crashed into several parked cars. the firefighters did have their lights and sirens on. >> comedian bill cosby back in court today fighting a felony ar with a temple university employee in 2004. in a separate case, the comedian admitted to having affairs with young women and sometimes gave them pills and alcohol before sexual encounters. the judge will decide if he will allow cosby's damaging testimony to be used at this criminal trial in june. >> parents are urged to check

the indians thanks to this grand slam in the third. that put the cubs up 7-0. the indians with runs in the fourth and fifth. 9-3 is the final. game 7 is tonight in cleveland at 8:00. what an incredible run the cubs have had. >> exciting. >> it's going to be amazing if they win. >> pretty interesting. did you notice in the background people were night? so mild. it is november. you look at the map right now and these are current temperatures. lower 60s in chicago. and that warmth goes all the way into ohio. that's pushing in our direction. so we're looking at above average temperatures locally the next couple of days. we should be about 56 this time of year for a high temperature. we're going to be running more than 10 degrees above that today and close to 10 degrees above that tomorrow. sharp drop in temperatures coming in on friday.

for the weekend. as these temperature fluctuations happen, we'll get clouds. it's dry, though. showers are to our north right now. the warm front is bringing in warmer temperatures today. eventually we'll get rain. showers lined up along the cold front. it's going to the second half of the day tomorrow before those get in here. today is a dry one. although we're in the 60s, look at new york hitting 70 today. lower 70s philadelphia. mid-to-upper 70s around d. c. see the stormy weather. that is what we're watching for tomorrow as we get showers late in the day, could even be a rumble of thunder tomorrow evening. that is with the cold front behind it. it turns cooler. low 50s on friday and only 50 on saturday. don't forget this is the weekend that we turn those clocks back one hour this weekend as daylight savings time ends.
